The introduction of bespoke themed interiors relating to the economy of the station (Agriculture, Hi Tech etc) plus the addition of flight controllers was a huge immersion boost when they arrived a few years ago (2017?). Looking at the immersion aspect, having different concourse layouts for each type of starport (Coriolis, Orbis etc.) seems a logical step, even if they all still contain the same services and the same for ground stations. Differing concourse layouts for outpost types (scientific, civilian, military etc.) would also be good. Most importantly, put all the elevators to the concourse on medium and large pads to the side of the bloody ship to save us all a bit of time!

All the station interiors, large and small, have different colour schemes and decorations in the on-foot area depending on the type. E.g. agri stations have loads of plants, green paint, etc. Another type is industrial with chrome and red paint, and so on.

@@Sighman We have noticed this and was a good addition from update 7 (even down to the varying amounts of garbage laying around the floors) but would still be good if differing concourse layouts were available, though not that I am expecting this to ever happen.

I've thought the same things. Be security, detective, ship repair, station repair, defend the interior from space mafia. And how about a shooting gallery or weight room mini game.

I really love the idea of renting out space in a station, not just for an apartment, but also for some local commodity storage. Would also like to see more interactive elements in a station. I like the idea of wandering the parks, but a weapons range or other such minigames would be good.

I spend (waste) more time swapping modules around some days than actually flying. Perhaps storage solutions. Increased module storage from the 200 currently. Loadout presets. For example if I use a Chieftain for AX and anti-talking monkey duty, being able to click one button to swap out the loadout would be great. Also a “strip” button to remove all modules in one click. Things like this have been around for decades in other games.

Ship click-and-go self-defined loadout presets would be a great addition to station (or fleet carrier) features, but am guessing this could not be implemented in the same manner as the Odyssey suit loadouts are handled. Unless anyone has different suggestions, the only way I could see one-click outfitting to function is to have firstly a need to "store" your current ship (which in turn makes all the modules it carries available if needed for another build), then select your required ship and from there select one of the preset loadouts you have created. Of course, all of your modules would need to be present in that location, but when I think of the grinding I have done for additional "copy" modules and weapons to put on other ships just for the sake of being to change-ship-and-go, having presets based on your module stock would eliminate the need to have to do that.

@@CMDR.Stormlynxright. I’m not privy to how their system works. And there would be requirements like you stated, all your modules would need to be in one place. Also, I see I’m not the only one who sees the value implementation of something no matter how it works because it would be better than we have right now.

Thank you for thumbs ups. At the risk of being crass…. Two things. FDev has a history of making us do things the hard way. Then releasing the game mechanic and supporting storyline to give us something to do said thing the easy way. Caustic sinks case in point. They also drive the narrative and game play like old people ****. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out there’s gameplay and narrative in permit locked systems. Open up the story telling and see what happens. Return of the Jedi showed three different things going on simultaneously. Get more than one narrative going at the same time that are all connected. I close on this. FDev dangled a carrot in front of us. The Microprose F-19 Stealth Fighter. I mean Python MKII…. If that ship will make Titan runs easier… or something easier for the love of all that’s good and the sake of humanity release it sooner rather than later when we could really use that thing now. If the F-19 is going to be held back until after the titans are gone I’m going to write a book about how to make friends and influence people! Omg !!! There’s three parts of the main storyline going on at the same time !!! We need commanders here, there and over here !!! Not only would that probably double the amount of commanders in game it would probably lead to new purchases and returns from the CIG cash grab. And make it a little easier while you’re at it. WoW used to be you got your mount at 40 and it cost a lot of gold. Now, run Exile’s Reach and you have your mount at level 10 with gold in pocket. Kinda fixed the problem of Chinese gold farming, people getting banned for buying gold and most importantly!!! Everyone has more fun !!! I’ve played paper and pencil D&D campaigns that moved along faster on a bi-weekly basis than the speed of what’s going on in E:D right now. Rant over. Sorry if that was a bit too much Rich. Maybe I’ve seen Aliens one too many times and had to do some emergency venting. Very fitting. What’s that saying you Brits have? Get on with it !!!

I agree, there has been times when I go to a station with two rings and I always just stop and look in the inside and there is buildings like mansions, farms, and cities, places that I would just love to explore. As I said, in one of your live streams, I’m just a humble, explorer and biologist, and exploring cities, farms and mansions that I have never gotten to see before just calls to me.

Interesting stuff. Not as ambitious of course, but only the other day I was thinking that I’ve pretty much adopted Abraham Lincoln as my home base, but there isn’t really anything in game to acknowledge that. I feel like even something as simple as a warmer greeting from ATC, if you’ve specified a location as your home base, could be hugely immersive.

Why can't you store material, for a fee, at a warehouse in a station? An apartment/personal office would be great. I wish a Federal or Imperial starions would address you by your rank when docking. Also, your rank should convey other benefits as well. Better missions, discounted items, plaques, ribbons, and clothes are just some of the ideas. Why don't you actually have to walk into a contacts office?

From what I read in the lore on ShinDez, commanders would retire to the Founders World. Why not give Odyssey owners the ability to purchase a house or an estate on the Founders World? Have some sort of place to display collectable trophies or on-foot equipment or something.

Elite Dangerous always has been like side content for main story missions, except there is no main story missions/quests. (Im not counting that repeatable and grindy filling of progress bar).

You could buy or rent part of the business there. To help make credit when you are tied up. Also hire a npc to trade for you like with the xgames

sounds like interiors.. there is already system in place re: engineering. point= if you have no problems getting mats, then you get the best they offer. the roadblock is , its not as easy for everyone. guide to many old discoveries are passenger missions. guide to current affairs are transport and passenger missions

Very simple answer to all of your “why can’t you have…” questions: “because the game was not designed to support this level of flexibility and customisation”. Everything in Elite is procedurally generated from a relatively small set of pre-defined templates… that’s how they managed to create the illusion of a 1:1 scale Milky Way for you to explore. And there’s a lot of “smoke and mirrors” involved in selling you that illusion. When you dock at a station, the interior is a very simple model. Creating a full-scale version of that you could explore in first person would be a massive undertaking. Odyssey should be enough proof as to why you can’t just add features like this seamlessly. These are all great suggestions, but also things that would be better added to Elite Dangerous 2, instead of bolted on to a 10-year-old engine.

The engine is 20 years old 😯. To create a good game the engine is secondary, but the important thing is the passion/love you put into the game

I remember being told that space legs were impossible for the reasons you just listed. However, there is strong merit to your point. I’m just saying space legs were previously thought of as impossible.

Agreed. The docking bay interiors were designed to fly your ships in, not get out and walk around on foot. There would be no collision mesh, textures wouldn't be up to scratch, there would be gaps that ships can't exploit but people would fall through, etc.

Power up abandoned stations, and pirate stations shouldn't let you dock if you are good, only allow those with notoriety, higher the notoriety the better the missions you get

things r geared for discovery , always have been. balance is important so material and commodity storage are limited for bgs and pvp reasons.

Hi for frontier make you walk among all places you describe is to give more work for frontier, yes because if porting elite + odissey for ps5 and xbox series x is alot of work because they cannot do it work well in ps4 and xbox one is to much work why do this if is more work to do???

Id love to see a dedicated engineers console for multicrew. The station would be simple but would show a list of every system onboard and its power status. From there you could control the ships AFMU if present to repair systems but also overclock systems such as lasers for a weapons boost without visiting an engineer at the cost of damage per shot. Underclocking to reduce heat or to get under a specific power envelope woupd make sense too. Maybe even adding the ability to add an additional pip to a maxed out power bar for short durations so maybe 10 seconds of 5 pips to shields but it damages the generator.
