Livers are small on Humans but for the great white the liver can be more than 25% of its total body mass. It contains lightweight oils so the Shark kan live for days without eating and it helps with the shark's buoyancy. The more the shark grows the liver grows more compared to the rest of the body. The bigger the shark the better for Orca's. So It's not an expensive appetite, the liver contains an huge amount of energy for the Orca's while the rest of the great white is only waste.

Fireshark Like comparing a really dumb dog and a extremely intelligent human. Marine mammals like dolphins and orcas are magnificently intelligent. Especially sperm whales, which have a undeniable likelihood of being far more intelligent than humans, but are limited due to their body anatomy. Far more complex language, dialects, the biggest brains to have ever existed, with more developed brains that possess every region responsible for conscious thought, long term planning, speech, love ect and in much greater quantity and density. A shark is like an individual torpedo compared to a whole nuclear submarine.

@@georgewright5631 no that's factually not true. There is no shark that has anything on an Orca currently in existence. Great White's wheigh about 20% of an Orca, with 70% of the size. Imagine being in a fight with someone a third bigger than you, with more than double the bone density and over quadruple your muscle mass. Oh yeah, he's also much much smarter than you. @@ethanv7330 size doesn't matter first of all, sharks are the top apex predators and they can beat anyone in 1vs1 a shark build is much faster than an orca build and the shark will eventually start ripping it's fins and tails. Have u ever seen a video of a medium sized shark (idk the name) who was ripping a leedsicthys to pieces whose size is close to a blue whales. And Orcas do not hv a significant size advantage here orcas are like 4-5 tons and great whites are like 2.8-4 tons at max and size and weight is a HUGE weakness in 1vs1 marine fights. One lonely orca was actually killed by a great white though they are rare because orcas usually travel in schools. In conclusion 1v1 the shark wins and 2or more vs1 the orca wins.

@@user-ip5xn9ks9k No, sperm whales have huge heads, but they have small jaws in comparison, do not have the bite power! they are very deep divers and like to eat squid and octopus and have conical teeth that help grasp the prey but are not serrated like most shark teeth. They probably couldn't catch an orca much less be interested in eating one. But an orca WILL prey on a weakened, adult or a sperm whale calf. But orcas are the "wolves of the sea" and are opportunistic feeders so they follow nature's law of preying on the young, infirm and old. It's survival of the fittest in nature, and that's how nature controls the size of its species.

There's a documentary I think it was called "the whale who ate jaws" it is about group of whale watchers who saw a pod of orcas encircle and kill a great white shark. They flipped it over, made it catatonic and basically drowned it. As the sharks body floated down the orcas ripped out the liver. They didn't eat the shark or it's liver they just basically played with both until they grew bored then left. It was not a pod of males who did it, it was a pod of females and juveniles that did the killing. So this is an action that is taught at a young age and not something that just randomly started happening because some male orcas have PTSD

Forgiven Sinner, there's almost no evidence of dolphins killing any large shark. There's evidence of dolphins having a built in fear response of sharks, and of large sharks basically biting entire mouthfulls out of a dolphin without the pack coming to save it. An orca vs a great white shark however, that's different. Whereas a large shark has a size advantage over a normal dolphin, an orca is three times as heavy, faster, more agile and arguably more intelligent as well. It'll kill any great white out there with relative ease.

Elie Saba: Orca's are bigger than Great Whites. By far. "Killer whales are the largest extant members of the dolphin family. Males typically range from 6 to 8 metres (20 to 26 ft) long and weigh in excess of 6 tonnes (5.9 long tons; 6.6 short tons)." From Wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_whale#Appearance_and_morphology Great Whites rarely get to 6 metres. 16 feet (slightly less than 5 metres) is a big one. Also, Orca's are much heavier than Great Whites even at the same length. There has never been a Great White that weighed 6 tonnes, a weight an Orca reaches routinely. So it really is bigger in every way.

When a Great white is considered an easy prey for an Orca with physical problems, you realize how powerful the Willy actually is
@wienerblut100

Just my own opinion, but it seems like these 2 are outcasts(due to aforementioned reasons) from a bigger pod, therefore they have occupied this bay, as there are no great dangers and access to food, in this case sharks, is fairly easy. Orcas are truly incredible and intelligent animals, compared to sharks they are ruthless killers. Sharks just literally kill their pray within seconds and minutes- couple bites and thats it, no time to feel fear even. Orcas can torture their prey for hours. Watch their hunting videos, no joke..

@GespenstDesKommunismus
@GespenstDesKommunismus Жыл бұрын
It's not necessarily torture, they are mostly just very smart hunters. A great white will just rush in and bite without second thought, whereas the Orca will minimise the risk for himself since he is smaller and thus physically more vulnerable. They often want to wear down the pray to get an easier kill. Then there's also the fact that they have to share the food within their group, meaning that they can't just eat as fast as possible, but have to give others their turn too.

There is a documentary of the seal population and the GWS of Ferallon Islands (Sorry I do not have a link, I saw it on TV once). People are on the island to study the GWS and the seals for years and they found out that for some reason in some years there were no GWS to find in the whole region. They marked some of them and in a certain year they recognized that the marked shark just went deep and in the width of the Pacific for no reason. Then they got film material from a tourist boat in witch they saw an Orca killing a GWS and they concluded that it had to be the reason why the GWS fled the region. In test they found that the particles (blood and other fluids) of a killed shark triggers the other sharks to flee, because there has to be a predator who hunts them. So they fled the region and came back the next year or years later! Killing a shark is easy for an Orca. He just has to hit him once, then he turns him around so the shark paralyzes and holds him in place so the shark drowns (sharks have to go forward to get water in their gills)! Also they mostly hunt in groups and GWS are lone wolfs!

Orcas have two names in Chinese : "虎鲸" which means tiger whale, because Orcas are the top predators in water like tigers are on land. The other one is "杀人鲸" which means "man-killing whale". This name had been terrifying me for years, until I got to know that Orcas do not kill or eat human in natural environment.
