This video is great, I'd love to see more like this, Gotta say I never questioned my pronunciation of anything til i met my husband on ff14 around 6 years ago, we got into a discussion about FFXI and how we both missed playing, He said "Ah yeah, I remember having a fun time in Qwifum" and I was confused for a moment, took me a minute or two to realize he meant "Qufim" as i always pronounced it "Qoofim" since day 1 and later the Qoofim NM was added so i was convinced that I was saying it perfectly. We then started rambling for a good few hours just on area names, it was a fun time though. I also love hearing all the different pronunciations of Ronfaure, I always just pronounced it "Ronfour"

Wow! Thank you for the comment! We’ve had Real Life take over for the past couple of months but have a few projects in the pipeline including a few more pronunciation videos! Thanks for watching! :)

The strangest thing we’ve encountered is our friends from California came over and proceeded to tell us about how they were playing their dirk and durg. Peach and I were so confused, I thought they were talking about new daggers in FFXI. We then realized they were pronouncing Dark Knight (DRK) and Dragoon (DRG) as their abbreviations. We still to this day laugh about it!

Great video and loved it when you guys are pronouncing the words. Just out of curiosity what’s the actual pronunciation of all those words? Out of all you guys, Rua sounded the most convincing that he is correct, probably the way he said it and his voice 🤣

Rua definitely got the most correct but I'm not actually sure about the true pronunciation. I'll try to get back to you on this one.

Ruaumoko sounds like he's right on the money with all of these... Logical is cracking me up because his sound like he's unsure, or that it's a question?

As a German i always felt like area names were tailored towards us. Gustaberg berg means mountain in german which fits perfect for that area. Always felt weird when someone pronounced german words with an english/japanese accent lol. I pronounce almost everything different, same goes with the germans i played with during ToAU/WotG days.

Gus-tuh-berg Ron-fur (the way everyone was saying it in this video really made me question what i was even calling it) Saruta-baruta Sel-bina Ma-hara Zee-tah Oog-la-peh Sel-tee-us (Selt'teus) Jo-sheem (Joachim) Ro-guh-jean (Rughadjeen) A-gis (aegis though i used to say it more A-gus)

This stuff is mostly simple - I bet most wouldn't guess how Tzee Xicu is supposed to be pronounced. Then again, I recall being surprised when I first heard Lion and Zeid's names pronounced in an official capacity.
@RetiredGamers4 жыл бұрын
Isn't Lion's name just like the king of the jungle? I figured Zeid would be Zeed? I'll include NM's and mob names in the next video!

@@RetiredGamers Her name indeed sounds like the animal in English, but I used to think it was pronounced in a more French-ish way ("lee-on"), until I heard the voiced version of the end of the Shadow Lord battle that Famitsu collaborated with SE on in 2015 - there the Japanese voice actor pronounced "Zeid" as "Zai-do". While I'm at it, just sent my Horutoto pronounciation sample.

Would've loved to hear some attempts at Terpsichore! I think most of the time people have their own ideas of how the place/item names should be pronounced, and even their own rules to keep things consistent - I've always thought that female taru names always have the stress on the first repeat syllable (shan-TO-tto for example, or ku-PI-pi), but before I ever began speaking with others on voice chat way back (either Roger Wilco or TeamSpeak), I always had in my head that Yagudo was "ya-GOO-do", whereas virtually everyone else on voice had it as "YA-gu-do", which is how I say it now. It could be an interesting question (or series of questions) for the developers to ask/answer next FanFest :)
@RetiredGamers4 жыл бұрын
I for sure know how to say Terpsichore just because it deals with music. I pronounce Yagudo YAH-GOO-do. Yeah it would be great to ask the devs about pronunciation.

Monberaux : Mon (try to not pronounce the "n" sound), be ("e", close to the "e" in "suddEn"), r (a "clear" R), "aux" = "o" (and not "ow", and do not pronounce the "x"). This is a name that sound french. This is how french people pronounce it. ^^
