These are WINNING ODDS... They're not predicting which place the entry will get, but how likely they are to win. For example, if everyone predicts a song will finish 15th out of 26, their winning odds are still 0%.

I have the feeling that the big five (except Italy) have a lot of disadvantage. It doesn't make sense that Spain and France being in the top 5 have finished that low.

not really, their songs just haven't been neither jury favorites (for whatever reason) nor fan favorites (maybe they have received low scores because of the new voting system) personally I wasn't a big fan of France this year, but in 2022 and 2021 their entries were in my top 5 or 10 about Spain, I really think it is a ethnic bop and would do really well in the old voting system, but this new one favors only 1 music at all, it's more likely to someone spend their votes in only 1 song instead of more, it's logical to think the more they vote in that song, better the chances of that song winning the whole event

Everybody was sure these two would do very fine with the jury voting. Now what happened, I can still not understand

Why a week before? Why not the odds before the results were announced? This would make much more sense, accounting for jury and live performances as well. The actual betting odds were a lot more similar as well.

Actually no, They predicted 1 and 2, which are the most important ones. I just hate odds 1 month before have been predicting the winner 12 times in the last 15 years. Makes the whole thing less interesting as most people are just sheep and 'like' the one that the odds tell them to like.

Germany performance is art! @@ThaGamingMisfit That's not true, it's not that serious, it's got the up beat tempo, feel good vibe, fun summer song and people who voted for it might think the song was memorable enough and that it was good enough at the moment. It's also catchy and still in the head while better songs having it's quality in the lyrics might risk being forgotten since they only have one first impressen to make and if that is not shown visually people might not understand it's greatness, the good message don't always reach the casual viwers, it's a tv show and many songs to listen to so for many it's easier to go for the big visuals and vocals rather than the song. Poland have fun visuals even if it's cheesy. The planet goes to hell not because of songs like Poland that is an overreaction.

Well I think it would be better if she didn't win, because even if her performance and song were so good, she's a past winner and we all know her. @@mmizuhoo absolutely disagree. not that she doesn’t deserve because she is a past winner but she basically brought a very similar song to her winning song. and they gave it to her because it is abba’s 50th year next year. so that sucks. there were many fresh and interesting songs and the award went to a tired old recycled song. just so that sweden can say “we had abba AND we have a winner who won twice AND we won so many times that we are one of the most winning countries (foreshadowed by the hosts announcing which countries won most times)

What are the odds based on since music is completely subjective and most do not hear the songs much ahead of time?

Experts know what songs have hit potential. They estimate how well a song will be received by the jury votes and public votes. Probably also KZbin and Spotify streaming taking into account to measure popularity with the general public. But checking the odds of 1 week before the final is pointless, the live performance and act can make a big difference.

Italy have to send male singers every single year (except in 2021), because when they send female singers since coming back to Eurovision, Italy always finish outside top 5, even their last 2 female participants were out from top 10.

Italy's entry this year was completely boring, nobody cared about it and then suddenly top jury vote. Italy is just a loved country in the eurovision and they will always place at a good spot, unlike Germany and UK which are really hated for some reason and are most of the time at the bottom.
