I've tried a ton of electronics for drift and have found a killer combo of affordable parts, this combo is Quicrun 10bl60 esc, Rocket Supersonic 10.5t motor, power HD d12 servo. All 3 of those parts are less than $150 total and sacrifice almost nothing. 60A is plenty of power for drift and you still get basic turbo timing boost options. The XR10 stock spec is better and probably what everyone should be running if they want more options for tuning but the 10bl60 for less than $40 is fantastic.
@DJ.1001 Жыл бұрын
The powerhd G1 gyro for around $40 is a great option to round out a budget build. However I do agree the futabas are the best, except for the 470. The 470 is stuck in avcs mode and I hate the way avcs mode drives. Go with a second hand 450 or a 550.
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your input! I do need to try the 10BL60. I have run the 10BL120 - but it didn't have turbo or boost.
@andrewbrownell9108 Жыл бұрын
@@RoadsideRCThe 10BL120 does have advanced timing options in the sensored version, 9 set steps to the motor. I run a Futaba T3PV with a slight negative EXP on the throttle and it has a similar effect to boost and turbo when you start to hit that throttle curve right. For $50 I'm very pleased!

Buy a reve d RDX you won't regret it. So surprised at its performance for the price and out the box settings. Ran a d5mr , yd2 z , rmx 2.5, shibata grk this past year all pretty hopped up. But the rdx has immediately become my favourite chassis out performing much "higher" end chassis at my local club. Every seasoned drifter at my club who has given it a go has been shocked by its performance. King of the plastic fantastic chassis.

Coming from a world of RC crawling, I upgrade transmitters mainly for the end point adjustments, lighting and accessories like winches or 4-wheel steering. What sort of features are you looking for as it relates to drifting? Throttle expo, steering rates, aux for gyro control, and/or something else? I have extra Flysky GT5 receivers if I need to build another rig on budget, but maybe that transmitter isn't well suited to drift. As a side note, I don't run the GT5 with my crawlers any more because I prefer a momentary toggle switch for winching (I broke a winch hook at a comp pushing the 3-position past the middle point 🙃😂). Been watching a couple of your videos on drift cars (RTR vs kit, RWD vs 4WD for drift, etc)
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
Hi Andy! There are a couple main things: 1) Ability to control the gyro. Basically this comes down to a discrete additional channel that you can control between -100-0-100. As an example with your GT5, you can use either channel 5 or 6 (the dials at the top) but they are NOT precise at all. So trying to tune in the gyro gain is really difficult with these knobs. 2) low latency for control. This is similar to the impact in racing. 3) ability to communicate with the drift components. I say this because for some reason, Spektrum stuff really seems to not talk well with gyros, etc. 4) Typical tuning aids such as throttle exponential, etc. Hope that helps!
@Andy_Yates Жыл бұрын
@@RoadsideRC Very helpful, thank you! Programmable aux channels are nice, and being able to set increments + end point make for easy adjusting. I do that for the adjustable drag brake on a MambaX 👍

Small correction: MST RMX 2.5 has been available as a kit for a while now. There is also a more fancy RMX 2.5 RS kit, with more carbon parts and MB rear suspension (active toe). What MST is releasing (released, but not all stores have received it yet), are the RMX 2.5 _RTR_ models.

Awesome would help a lot of beginners. You might want to do a review on the Radiolink RC8X 8 Channels 2.4G RC Transmitter and R8FG Gyro Receiver, Full Color 4.3" IPS Touch Screen, Voltage Telemetry Surface Remote Controller, 200 Models. I think this controller would be a game changer if new drifters want to stay on a budget friendly environment. I love it, almost equivalent to a Futaba 7PX or 10PX but at a way cheaper level.
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
You are right - it is much cheaper than a 7px...but still more money than the 4PM. I looked at it really hard when it first came out, and just couldn't justify buying it.

@taimaishu-nao1922 Жыл бұрын
Mate, don’t. As someone who has a Yeah Racing version, you’re better off buying a second-hand YR TT-02 build than trying to build even an MRC conversion. Currently, I have mine running TT-02 Type S towers with the YR kit and testing it all with new tires. As for the conversion, it’s easier building the RêveD RDX than doing a TT-02 conversion. Cheaper too.
@robinkesterlives Жыл бұрын
@@RoadsideRC As someone who went the TT02 route, I agree. The weight distribution is centered and to the passenger side so it favors that side, and the steering angle just doesnt get locked like you would need. Mine was a money pit. Its back to AWD and runs nice like that.

You revied the Hackslider Gyro and you told it works really good. Isn't it an option for the cheap build then? Do you know there is a difference between hackslider performance tuned gyro and the hackslider mini v3?
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
I tested the hackslider mini - and it did rather good. The full-size hackslider has not been a great performer. With drifting, the gyro is so important, that I do not recommend using cheaper gyros. Yes, there are cheaper ones, but I do recommend staying with a more premium gyro.

Great video, as always, Troy! Couldn’t agree more on everything you say about gyros. I’ve got 3 RMX2.0s now… 2 have GYD450s in them and the 3rd has the DP302V4. I cannot drive the one with the V4. Just can’t make it do the things I want it to. This is the second car I’ve had with that gyro, the first being the Usukani with the purple GTR body. I couldn’t drive that one worth a flip either so it was traded to a buddy who fell in love with it first time he drove it.
