Recommended Electronics for Redcat RDS RC Drift Car Build

As folks build the Redcat RDS drift car - there are always questions about what electronics to run in a rc drift car build.

I have been using sanwa transmitter gyro and servo for a while now and i love it and now i bought a used t4px and a gyd470 still didn't try it yet it it looks so advanced for me its going to be a learning curve , great video thanks for your efforts

Yes! Many folks in the drift world spend huge $$$ and only promote the expensive products. Really not necessary!

Recommendation for ESC: Hobbyking XCar 120A and an USB interface. It's basically some HobbyWing Xerun clone - uses HobbyWing software for tuning. Sum is under 40 bucks. Plenty of boost and turbo possibility (I ran at half of max). The only downsides are that sometimes throttle gets stuck after stopping for a second (applies to both original and clone) as well as minimal throttle response latency. Would recommend for start though.

Just a heads up too, the flysky noble can use futaba Sr mode and sanwa SSR with the new b series receivers. I'm using it currently with the gyd470

One thing about ReveD is that electronics aren't always stable quality. One guy already had a servo and a motor (or two) stop working properly after almost no use.

That is true! I have seen some folks say that. Everything I have had from them has been solid though.

Great vids.....I'm learning a lot....I'm new to rc...but your helping me a lot...I've still got the yd2....but my receiver and transmitter stop working..I try binding over but it's not binding back ....

I'd just go with the proven Hobbywing 1080. Great esc. Rather cheap - and could always be used in a crawler at a later date.

I know you like the ReveD and the Futaba Gyros, but, is there a Gyro available for $50 or under that performs well, I saw you liked that Dumbo RC all in one for that price, is there a stand alone Gyro for that price so I can still use my T4PM Plus? Also which Futaba receivers do you go with?

Of all the parts of a drift car to cheap out on...the gyro is absolutely NOT one to do so. Spend the extra $ and get a really good gyro. Cut corners elsewhere.

Would the hobby wing Xerun justock combo work with the rds? Only reason I ask is cause it $110 dollars… thanks and love your vids!

Yes - that combo will work, but will leave you without turbo/boost - and without mechnical timing adjustment on the motor. Will it work great for having fun? YES! Will you eventually upgrade if you start driving on track with others? Probably! Here is another budget combo I have used: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIKlkniDedpjhdk

The 10bl120 and 10bl60 do have boost. It is no where near as tunable as the xerun escs but they have 8 steps of boost ranging from +0 to +26.25 degrees and it certainly works. You will need the programming card to enable it, part # HW BQ2007

When I plugged mine it, it would allow general motor timing adjustment - but not actual boost or turbo. Are we talking about the same thing?

@@RoadsideRC yes, it's called timing on the program card. It works exactly the same as the auto boost setting on the XeRun ESCs and applies an additional timing offset throughout the rev range that varies based on throttle input. I used an RPM meter to test mine, on the max setting with a cheap 10.5t motor I was able to get close to 10,000 additional RPM with no load on the motor. The difference when driving is immediately noticeable.
