Yes absolutely!!! I had a very restrictive mentality! So even though I didn't calorie restrict a ton, I mentally was always trying to restrict and it naturally made me want to overeat, which made me gain weight. It's crazy how your mind set affects your body.

@franscine1232 3 жыл бұрын
@@jenzieisreal1433 I'm going through this journey myself still, but I think it has to do with changing your mentality around the way you look. There are so many other important and great things about you other than the way you look! Think about yourself as if you were a friend or your future daughter/son. Would you like the way she sees herself? Do you really judge your friends or your family based on the smallest things like if they gained some weight or if they aren't skinny? No. We think about their personalities, likes/dislikes, how they make us feel, their dreams or goals, how funny they are, how cute they are, etc. So why see yourself any differently from that?

What a great and helpful video! Lately I’ve been wondering if all I’m recovery is for me. My whole life I’ve been a bit overweight (I’m 5.3 feet tall and weighed 176 pounds) and I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted too. I’m also convinced that I overate a lot too. Exactly one year ago I started dieting. I cut out any sugar, carbs, ate less and exercised a lot (half an hour a day, six days a week + walking about 10.000-20.000 steps a day). At the beginning it was rather intuitive, but than I started counting calories. I ate 1200-1400 calories and continued with cutting out everything. I even cut out fruits because of the sugar in it. I was scared of food, scared of gaining weight. I couldn’t stop thinking about food, planing every meal. When I wanted to eat out with friends, I had to make sure the food was on MyFitnessPal so I could calculate everything. I felt trapped, scared, unhealthy and unhappy. Everything lead me to a weight of 121 pounds, which isn’t underweight, but I still only ate eggs and vegetables. And last month I couldn’t do it any longer. People around me got concerned and I started to reflect a little more. The fact, that I haven’t got my period for 5 months lead me to start all in recovery. And I just forced myself to completely stop thinking about calories and just enjoy the food I craved. It worked. But with the extreme hunger, I’ve gained a lot of weight I suppose. Because I don’t weigh myself anymore, I only see and feel the changes. And this makes me very uncomfortable. I feel like in just a month I’ve gained all those pounds I lost back and because of my past I am scared I will just keep on gaining. On the other hand I feel like my hunger has decreased a little. I just don’t Know, if I should continue to listen to my body, since I had the tendency to overeat in the past. I also don’t Know what my set point weight is. What I know is that I just feel very uncomfortable right now. I can’t shower without crying and I avoid looking in the mirror at all costs, which is so so wrong, I know. Will it get better? Should I continue to listen to my hunger cues and eat whatever I want? Will I become overweight again? Those are questions that keep me up at night and I don’t know the answer. I suppose I should learn to accept and love my body. And this is the hardest part. I’m wishing everyone who read this a wonderful day/night! Sending lots of love❤️ and I would be very happy if some people could share their experiences and thoughts💕

Elisa, I've struggled with an ED for a little over 10 years now. The past couple years it has completely consumed my life and I can't even get into details because it's just too dark. I know I've gained a few lbs because I can see some changes and I feel more energetic and balanced with my hormones but I'm still super afraid of gaining the weight just because it's so uncomfortable and I got so thin that that's what felt good to me. I feel very stuck right now. I still restrict so much. Your videos are so helpful though. Especially knowing recovery is possible and essential. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your story and knowledge with us.

It’s interesting but very generalized and over simplified. Definitely worth the listen to because giving in to cravings does reduce them and I say this as a person w hormonal and brain disturbance. But everyone is different and for instance a lot of ppl are overweight because they do not know they are lactose intolerant. Just an example. Thank you for your words there was some revelation in it.

Thank you for this video. I really needed to hear this. I am in recovery but still struggling with restrictive thinking. Knowing that the restrictive thinking has to go for the body to heal was a very important point for me. Also healing the body from the inside. I notice how anxious and tense my body feels even when I think of loosing weight or forcing myself to exercise. No I see how this thinking stimulates the production of stress hormones which increase appetite and decrease energy and metabolism. Now I'm focusing on relaxing my nervous system by meditating and exercising when I feel like it. Having fun with it, feels much better. Makes me feel like a playful kid. I'm grateful for your work. Thank you.

But I don't have the same hunger every day, One day I have a normal or less hunger and one day I have so much hunger. I worry about fluctuations but what happen if my hunger is less every day? I gained 35 lbs and I lost about 5lbs so slowly that I don't even notice, I'm not restricting because when I did it I gained weight inmediatly

its very individual. can be a few months, half a year, a year. if its a year it doesn't mean its every day, but the symptoms are maybe coming and going, gradually decreasing over time. everybody is different. the best you can do to "speed it up" is to stay very consistent with recovery, don't fall back to relapse and just keep doing all the recovery things like eating enough, resting more, working on body image etc. 1.5 months is very early in recovery, so give it plenty of time, even when you do everything "correctly" your body just needs time as well. and 35 lbs is not all fat, it can be mostly water weight, bloating, more food in your belly, restored glycogen. fast weight gain is a sign of water retention, this is why some people can put on 15+ lbs in just a week, it's a clear sign of water retention...and stop weighing yourself, you don't need that trigger, it will only sabotage your recovery.
@PerlaOC
@PerlaOC 7 жыл бұрын
katelyn Buls water retention is so much less in my case, at first it was severe, and I used to avoid salt for that reason, but now I eat out and I'm currently in a trip, I eat with my husband what he eats, I eat till satiety, and take my leftovers if I get full, eat them if I'm hungry an hour later too, I may even eat small meals all day if I need to. Honestly, I bought bigger and loser clothing, I feel prettier, cute lose blouses, and jeggings, new comfy heels, do my hair pretty.... my confidence is now in my success rather than being in the bones.

I've been overweight/obese for as long as I can remember, I've gone through anorexia with overexercising, i tried veganism, keto, IF, and I just kept gaining and losing all the time. When i started IE again for the 3rd time last july, i ate A LOT of cheesecake (just coming from keto, lol). Now, if I really listen, i notice that i don't get hungry much. I think it's working, but I'm wondering about where my set point is, as I've always been overweight in my experience. We shall see.

Once you get to a point where you’re energy balanced and the thought of food doesn’t consume your mind, you aren’t restricting and you’re basically maintaining your weight no matter what, that’s where I’d say your set point is. Even if it’s “overweight.” If your body is happy and healthy, and dieting/restriction is not part of the equation at all, that’s where you should be!

From what I got from her videos is is if your daughter is still not eating enough calories to beal he metabolism, she'll stay in a quasi reco very state .Shell eat more and then restrict some and then eat nor.al and keep cycling up. This is what has happened to me and I haven't quite gotten out of the .middle ground ,when I eat more I start to gain, so I eat less and do the whole process over again.Instead you're supposed to eat till your body stops gaining and then it will start to find it's own weight set point.

Although I did restrict sweet processed foods most of the time, I allowed myself to eat them on some occasions, but I still felt horribly guilty. The only explanation I could think of is how these foods contain higher amounts of energy and are easily accessible and usable by our bodies! Just going to trust the process and see where I end up xx

Also, people who have been overweight for very long periods of time have the opposite problem from caloric restriction, so their bodies are use to being at a higher weight than their set point. Now, if these same people begin a healthy diet program, notice that they will lose weight VERY quickly, because their body has been trying to go down to their set point for a long time. If they choose not to lose weight, then they are eating so much that the body cannot fight the high calorie intake. And yes, many people have other issues besides just overeating. They are perhaps taking medications that interfere with their bodies going down to their set point. I have found it very easy to stay at my set point, because it is the weight that my body has decided is right for me. That's not to say that I sit around and eat like a pig. But I do eat what I want, in normal moderation, with no fear of getting overweight for my height. I just eat like a normal person who likes food, but is not obsessed with food.

But men and women have very different metabolisms so surely the outcomes would be different if women were being studied. That's why I have a hard time believing the outcomes of the Minnesota starvation experiment. Men's metabolism is much different. I wonder what would've happen if they'd done this with women. 1500 calories a day isn't as little for a woman as it is for a man, so of course they're going to be "starving" on that amount. If women did this, and then started eating 10,000 calories a day, surely they would've gained a lot more weight than the men, maybe even becoming overweight.
@lisay9859

Women and mens’ metabolisms aren’t THAT different. I usually maintain around 2500 and lightly active, and I’m a female with a bmi of around 19-20. According to online calorie calculators, I’d be gaining at least 2 pounds a week eating this amount, and what do you know, I‘m maintaining. According to these calculators I should be eating 1400 to maintain, and I drop pounds like crazy on this amount. I wouldn’t believe everything I hear so fast.

I'm going out with my friends more eating desserts with them enjoying mytime not thinking about food and exercising almost at all . I thought about it , for me I would never ever judge someone by the way they look or by their weight , I don't love my friends because of their skinny figure or sth , so why should I care about this so much!!! This is so silly , and my friends still love me and enjoy time with me . Just stop thinking about it , look at yourself in the mirror and love the way you look , I know it's hard but you'll get there . And the best thing I did was to throw all my old clothes away (all of them) I bought clothes that make me feel comfortable , they hide my "all the time bloated stomache" . But I know that I won't keep gaining weight ( cause I know that there were weeks in which I ate around 5000 calories aday and like they didn't make me fat ) and I know that I'll be a normal eater soon , cause now I'm starting to feel full and feel that I don't want to eat ( not restricting or sth , I just don't feel like it ) ( before I was never full , I could eat and eat and binge ) . anyway , I hope that helped cause I know what you're going through and it's not easy but just keep going . And if you can get a consultation with "this girl audra " it would be great she'll def help you , and go check her channel out . Wish you the best ❤

Jade Nanarjain oh and yeah stop counting your calories , don't say I'll eat 2000cal , eat whatever you want without thinking about it . Delete your calorie app ( I deleted and reinstall it many times , it's ok , but at last I deleted it and never though of it again and that really helped )

@@eggandplant3682 hey dear! It's been along time now that I can't quiet remember but it def took more than I wanted or I thought it would take, but there's a bright sight after all and I'm now a "normal eater" I changed so much from the person I was back then, all for the better. I hope you feel better soon and have peace with yourself. I would like to recommend to you few channels Stephanie buttermore and Greg doucette, i like them both though they approach things quiet differently but I they were helpful in their own different ways, hope you can get something usedul out of them for yourself. Be strong, these days will pass trust me!

Hi! I am recovering from bulimia and I have had extreme hunger/binge eating for 2 weeks now and it gets physically uncomfortable, but I don't purge. I started recovery in a normal weight, a bit overweight actually, but I used to binge and purge every day. I am terrified that I will gain too much weight and whether bingeing is an eating disorder or actually recovery.... I've been panicked about this for a couple days now... Can you please help me? Did I have a restrictive disorder even? These are the questions that have been on my mind. I just want to recover and it's so hard...

I still have a very big appetite. Sometimes I can eat 2 more slices of bread and a banana after having a good dinner, and still not feel satisfied. Is this normal? I'm 10 months in recovery and I overshoot my weight. What should I do?

@@marinamarina4482 I can proudly tell you that I'm fully recovered now! I went to stages of extreme metal hunger, and because I did not take care of my mental health, I started binge eating sometimes. Now I'm in a stage where I don't care about my weight and what I eat. I just eat whatever I want to and I don't practice the sports I don't like to do:) I had gained some weight because of the binges, but it dropped very quickly without following a diet, when I started to not care about food. I can really recommend you to find a great therapist to help you, because your mental health is KEY to recovery!

Some people are addicted to food though and cannot do intuitive eating, eating what they want. In that case, this would be bad advice.
