I've had my KZbin channel for a while but only started posting more seriously last year. I currently have just over 400 subscribers, so I'm still a long way from monetization, even in terms of watchtime. But I enjoy making the videos and have already received a few commissions as a result. You never know what to expect in the future. I recommend everyone to just get started. I've been putting off starting the channel for ages, but I'm currently enjoying the fact that I can simply try out different areas.

I have built a few successful creative businesses over the years and you learn soooo damn much just jumping in and doing it. Learning curves are steep but the satisfaction and confidence you get is immense, especially as a stay-home Mum, which is what I was. This is lovely and thought provoking. I would like to begin a youtube channel dedicated to the beginner artist but as a beginner artist myself and learning all the things that go along with becoming a good artist it seems insurmountable to add learning to make videos, edit videos, scripts, etc. on top of all that.

I agree with Alex...enjoy the process. It is so easy to get caught up in the 'I must do's'. If you wake up and are excited about your day and tasks on this journey, you're in a good place. 'Just press record and slap fear in the face' (quote from Sean Cannell - Think Media).

If you can't post weekly, commit to biweekly, or every 10 days. You'll still be consistent, just a little slower and that's totally ok. No need to pressure yourself, unless you're really not managing time well, then perhaps take a good hard look at what you do on a daily basis and see where you could make changes. I had to shift some things around in order to obtain a goal I wanted to reach. However, I"m aware that if it starts to burn me out, I'll dial it back. I need to live, contently...not feel rushed or pressured or my art will suffer.

Your artwork is stunning and your studio is so cozy! I’ve been on KZbin for 2 years now with my little hand embroidery business. I’ve always felt the pressure to create tutorial based videos, but am planning to pivot a bit and also create more cozy laid back vlog style videos that more so documents & inspires rather than forces something which I’m so excited for :) Your lighting also looks amazing, is it just natural light from your window or do you add filters in your editing software?

Go for it, and my tip...use the video option on your phone, cover the camera (so it won't use tons of memory) and talk away. Voice Memos sound horrible and I personally hated what it did to my voice. Upload it to your editing software and just extract the audio, or if you can't, just use the audio from that video in a different layer. You might need to adjust a few things, like noise reduction or adding more bass or treble, or if you use CapCut (free version) you can just click the option 'normalize loudness' and 'reduce noise' and you sound a lot more professional all of a sudden. Happy creating!!!

I sing too, but not for anyone to hear, lol. All joking aside, I used to sing in my church and I still love singing, just not on a professional level. Anyway...don't do what I did...and put too many passions in one channel. You'll have different audiences showing up that care for one thing, but don't care for the other. Besides my paintings and art content I decided to do a monthly KZbin analytics video. Well, that kind of fell flat on its face. I figured I'd be talking to some other artist creators who are trying to get their art channel off the ground and hoped to relate to them with my struggles and small victories. Those that come to my channel for the painting content are not necessarily interested in the nitty gritty of growing a KZbin channel. Of course there is the rare individual (or small group) that likes everything you post, but I have found that sticking to one niche works best to grow on KZbin. I'm no guru or expert and your channel might prove me wrong completely...but I just wanted to throw it out there...I wish you a wonderful creative journey in all your endeavours!!

Hello Alex, I've been wanting to start a YT channel about starting an art business in my sixties. I uploaded my first video in stories the other day and it's soooo bad!! I have no idea what i'm doing but really want to do it. I'm really bad at the filming and editing side. Hi Julie! This is actually something that is on my list of videos to create, I feel like I can give some good advice as I am relatively new to the whole filming process too meaning I’m not too far removed from the position you are in. My initial advice would be to create as many videos as you can and try to improve a little each time. My first videos are terrible too! Just remember you can always delete them later on 😊

I’m very consistent in my art practice, I paint every day, usually I video too, mostly to just show my process, my issues are with the editing, I’m not proficient at all and just backed off of uploading because I became so worried about editing that I sort of just gave up on my KZbin and just post to Instagram. But I really want to do it, do it right, do it consistently. You have inspired me for sure.
