*What You Need to Know* *Background history* - in Nov/2017, Yuzuru suffered a career threatening injury at the NHK Trophy official practice, 3 months before defending his Olympic title. He damaged the ligaments of his right ankle (the landing ankle) and went through a self-imposed media blackout while he was rehabbing. The original footage that this video is based on was the very first time anyone saw Yuzuru skate, after his injury. *About Yuzuru* - if you know Yuzuru, you know he is a very independent thinker, and has been breaking all possible limits, barriers, paradigms. He also has a very sharp, quirky and great sense of humor. He is one of the smartest people I have ever seen, his self-control and focus are immense, and he follows his own path. He is very aware of his surroundings and of everything that happens in figure skating, so he knew what he was doing. *What is trolling* - is when you do something to disrupt, it could be either good or bad. It is an "internet slang" and in this case it's being used when someone makes a harmless joke, taking everyone by surprise. When this kind of trolling happens, it generates surprised laughter and admiration. *Why was he trolling* - Yuzu was trolling the media and his competitors because it was his 1st competition in months, due to his injury, and he decided to not reveal an inch of his game. Everyone was anxious to see if he was healthy, in shape and on the very first time people would see him skate after months of media blackout, he does that 😄: an entire practice with only single jumps and one 3A. He was obviously hiding his cards, as we all saw in the next practice. The world stopped for 1h to see him do just that. A troll. The best kind of troll. *If you think he wasn't trolling* - 😂it'd have made sense if he had done the Singles briefly and then started his actual practice. You don't waste an opportunity to practice your program unless you have something up your sleeve; especially not during the Olympics. Yuzuru Hanyu on competitive mode is almost scarily focused. Actually, scratch that, he is scary. Russian skater Dmitri Aliev, when he was a junior, said it was better not to look Yuzuru in the eyes when he was practicing because it was scary😂 Having said that, with all the hunger he was for defending his title, I don't think he'd do that if he were healthy. I mean, no one knew what to expect from him because of his self-imposed media blackout. So my take is that since no one knew whether he was healthy or not, and a lot of the press was writing him off the podium already once his injury had been so severe, he decided to torture people some more and most of all not to relieve them of their anxiety 😂hence the trolling. In case you're still not convinced, watch Brian confirm Yuzu was indeed trolling here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5qxc42Vi7J1ra8 *About this video* - it's a joke, people 😂I couldn't possibly know what was going on in his head. So this is just my (and a lot of people's) take on the situation. Don't take it serious, don't get offended and don't think too much about it. As Javier Fernandez once said, Yuzuru is a mystery and he likes it that way. *About the music* - he deserved a comedic soundtrack because he fooled us all. I love him 🤣 *What happened next* - his first competitive performance was his Olympic Short Program, days after this "troll practice." He skated a perfect program that got the 2nd highest score ever for a short program (the 1st higher score is also his, as is the 3rd, and the 4th...). You can watch that masterclass here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKnIe3ije56qg9U Listen to the comments from the 6-minute warm up until the end of his performance and you'll get an idea of what happened. Also, if I may suggest, notice how his arm movements and jumps match the many musical phrases, and at times it seems like his body is playing the piano, watch his raised hand at the donut spin kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKnIe3ije56qg9U *To sum up* - it was his 1st competition in months because of his injury AND it was the Olympics, his Dream Stage, as he said... So he decided to only do single jumps as a strategy 😂No one knew whether he had recovered from his grave injury or not, he was a mystery and decided to keep the mystery as long as he could. ________________________________ If all this got you curious about this man and you'd like to know a little more about him, here's a by no means exhaustive roadmap: [For an *introduction* on his career and feats: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuzuru_Hanyu ] First off, watch his *performances* . You can find practically all of them here: planethanyu.com/topic/265-videocompetition-senior-level-competitions-media-post/ At the same time, you could have a look at the *documentaries and interviews* he's given. If you speak JPN then it's perfect, but if you don't, there are a number of ENG subbed vids around (as well as Viet, CN, ESP, etc). Here on YT I'd suggest you to have a look at the following channels' content: kzbin.info/door/ZPWc4jOG_znUD18EMEuisgvideos kzbin.info/door/hVTivHyGGN2XKt6eORReqQvideos kzbin.info/door/O2PRL5ISs0bAmCwQRTWckAvideos kzbin.info/door/U9rYgyV01s9S4abBMRIZQwvideos kzbin.infovideos kzbin.info/door/riyRKeZxlbCbkXt1IaPlGgvideos On *Tumblr* : wherespacepooh.tumblr.com/ tsukihoshi14.tumblr.com/ yuzusorbet.tumblr.com/ tinylorando.tumblr.com/ On *Twitter* : twitter.com/BlueFlame4YUZU twitter.com/juronom twitter.com/tsukihoshi14 twitter.com/tsubakindy However, nothing is better than Yuzu's own words. There are two compilations of interviews he's given through the years that were put together into 2 *biographies: Aon Honoo I and II* . There's more information about them here, including translations into English (provided you show proof of purchase of the original books): yuzuru-hanyu-translations.weebly.com/ Have fun and stan Yuzuru Hanyu, the GOAT of figure skating!

TJ, I totally agree. The way he executes every element is something I've never seen before. His grace and elegance (and even abandon), his effortlessness, the pristine technique, the charisma, the heartfelt interpretation, the care with each fingertip movement, the way his every program has a line of thought, a reason to exist, a purpose.... I never thought anyone could make jumps appear out of nowhere and be part of choreography. He is the unthinkable complete package. I'm glad I had the fortune to watch him skate live.

Hah, as a dancer I do similar thing in my head before performances xD I visualise my choreography inside my head and most of the time I look like a loony person .. just moving my hands, eyes, head, feet occasionally, mumbling to myself and if there are parts I'm not so confident in, I practice them phisically but with not 100% power. My dance group mates have told that this looks odd, because I'm in my own world that moment. I cannot hear anything nor see others well because I'm so focused on visualising. But it helps with getting into the zone and when the music starts, I'm ready unlike others who wasted the time on chatting and not warming up enough before that. It also helps to reduce nerves...

Margaret, this video I posted has footage from that day; this is the 1h that made the world stop 😄(the source is on this video's description). All eyes from media were on him, and a lot of FS fans were glued to sports channels and social media trying to get reports from Yuzuru. This video has excerpts from that practice day. In other footage on the internet you can see the outer sides of the rink was packed with cameras and reporters. Here are some articles from that day: www.reuters.com/article/us-olympics-2018-figs-japan-hanyu/figure-skating-hanyu-takes-first-glides-towards-gold-defense-idUSKBN1FW13O english.kyodonews.net/pyeongchang/news/2018/02/25bc192d7300-olympics-hanyu-completes-first-practice-ahead-of-gold-medal-defense.html www.rockerskating.com/top-50-of-201718/2018/9/1/video-2-of-2017-18-goats-always-find-their-way

😂it'd have made sense if he had done that briefly and then started his actual practice.

Everybody scared because we didn’t know how he would be after his injury, we thought that maybe he would not win (he was obviously not the judges favorite to win gold), that maybe he would hurt himself way more... but Yuzuru proved everyone wrong. God, 2018 Olympics was one of my most stressful memories, yet also one of my fondest.

I am reading this literally an hour before the Beijing 2022 Olympic short programs start and I feel you, 'cause he wants to land the f*cking 4A in the long program and also didn't show much of his skills in the training session and nobody knows anything and I just want him to skate clean and beautifully and I know he can do that, but I'm still so nervous and scared! Aaaah!

I honest to God thought that was a mistake from ISU when it first went public. But nope, Lord Troll was at it again. Now, jokes apart, it was *SUCH* a daring move to do that at the end of the season, it was a real declaration of war “I am not dead and I will fight until my last breath”. Season 2019/20 was a game of cat and mouse with ISU playing god with Yuzuru’s score, ignoring the rule book for his competitors and being extremely harsh on Yuzu’s faults (and stingy in GOEs whe he did things right). I hope 2020/2021 treats Yuzu right 🙏
@mongji1022
@mongji1022 4 жыл бұрын
Val Hanyu I hope so too. To be honest, I was really afraid for worlds because I don’t think he would win with the way ISU had been scoring him this season. But, I tried to stay positive since Yuzu had got his 2 obligatory silvers this year and then this situation happened. It was such a disappointment but a relief to me at the same time because of the pandemic that is going on.
