When it comes to Skype and Discord, Skype didn't have the style that was needed... people needed something that was easy to use and wasn't RAM heavy, where they can use it in games and people can key up to say something or broadcast... it was more refined, with Zoom it's more for video conferencing between 1 on 1 people or groups for businesses and they needed something they could try without a subscription right now and has great API, Zoom is that, Zoom is similar to discord with the features that the businesses need and is so simple and easy that even grandma can use it... that's the software of today... It needs to be so simple it can be used not just today, but right now, but it needs to be so advanced that I can customise it to be a team member of my company and possibly core staff member that is cheap. it makes money so it's what the doctor ordered when it comes to investments - a solid return, and because it hasn't got so many bugs from the Windows 98 era like Skype does that Microsoft added in

@leicanoct i think you're underestimating their significance, and overestimating the significance of vaccines. The latter won't mean Jack if the entire population isn't vaccinated, which it wouldn't cuz there are pockets of anti-vaxxers (especially in liberal societies like much of the western world) who would defeat the purpose. Who knows what mutation of covid19 we'll see a decade or century from now. Practices like social distancing will be far more effective than vaccinations, if established as norms in the future.

Funny how nobody knew of zoom and it became Popular through the media marketing all during the rise of the corona virus while digital communications are the key mean while the corona virus came from communist country China where they censor everything and hide the corona virus from the world and the servers that happen to run the popular app zoom are in China ... so have fun being spied on and your info being used by communist government . I’ll stick to google duo. At least the servers are in USA and we have data protection laws at least cause we are a democracy not a communist country . People we need to stop depending on China if we want the USA to thrive . Stop supporting sending our business and jobs to other countries. Don’t sell America’s and your children’s future away to other countries...this is why we don’t have any face mask ventilators or medical drugs or supplies during the CCP Virus... it’s made in ..guess what...you guessed it..it’s on your shirt...China ..

Yeah they don’t even have end to end encryption, something that is very standard for voice over IP technologies. This is a big privacy concern especially considering almost everyone else in this market has them. There are even credible allegations that Zoom sends (not sell) data including the content to China. Something about the CEO Eric Yuan being an intelligence asset for the PRC government. Not sure of how true that is though.

A lot of people subscribed to HBO just for Game of Thrones, but they still had a large increase in users even after each season was over. Unless Zoom really messes up, I imagine they'll still have a much greater number of users, including paying ones, after quarantine than they did before. People know about it now, and the longer this goes on for the more comfortable they'll be using it. Even grandparents are learning how to use Zoom right now. The most inconvenient part of using this app is the learning curve, and over 200 million people are now getting over that.

I had to use various video calling apps for classes in recent days . From my experience zoom is the most convenient and stable app At first, Our teacher use Facebook live to take classes but it has a 30-40 second latency.we were using discord to talk. secondly, we switched to google duo but its problem is that if there were many people the screen became too small.(we only wanted to see the teacher not everyone) And then comes zoom ,aside from the interface being dated (android app ) it has no inherent flaws.

@@AJ42069 low tier plans are more so for consumers. Most individuals are fine paying $1-3.99 per.month for something but 20 is a different price range. It's like a $6 pack of lamb chops vs a $10 pack. Most people will buy the $6 over the $10 and some will still choose the $10, but if your only offering $10 packs of meat you loose most of the customers who would have bought the $6 one and are left with only the ones that would buy the $10 one anyway and SOME but not a lot of the $6 buyers.

The smart managers are not going to forget the widespread adoption of the Zoom method for holding FYI meetings. The really smart managers are going to tell employees, 'Hey, instead of coming in at 8:30, if we agree to a 15 minute Zoom meeting at 7:15 am you can come in at 9." Then at no charge an entire team will be thinking, uninterruptedly (at least for the drive in) about work for an extra hour a day. And worker tardiness will vanish.

Also really inexpensive if you'll never have more than 100 people on at once. Great to see some explanation as to why zoom is dominant. I didn't understand the popularity over teams for example, even though I don't know anything about programming it is good to know that there is a reason. On the other hand, I assume a lot of people are in the same situation as I am, where they don't really know the difference in technology... so is zoom popular because there were a few that knew and started a network effect very quickly? I have online classes in 3 separate services, so cloud/no cloud doesn't seem to be a problem for most users.

I like Zoom, but Google and/or Microsoft will overtake it in the next 5 years.
@jonasklar

the hole business model of zoomfrom investor point of view is to be bought by amazon or microsoft and be incorporated into their services. For google it makes less sense to buy it since zoom is build on aws and azure.
@ab3040
@ab3040 4 жыл бұрын
@@jonasklar if that was the point Amazon would have bought it already while it's small and relatively cheap. You realize aws is a service that companies like Netflix use. Just because someone uses it doesn't mean they are owned by Amazon.

@@ab3040 I think it would make sense for a company like Microsoft to do it considering they already own a server like Skype and instead of being completely overtaken by zoom on that front they may buy zoom and absorb it into the Skype. It's not completely unreasonable.
@ab3040
@ab3040 4 жыл бұрын
@@AndresHernandez-yv4bo you watched the video right? The reason most people prefer Zoom to Skype is that it's much more modern and the code wasn't written over a decade ago. Microsoft needs a complete overhaul. Google is good at getting rid of old programs in favor of new ones (duo/hangouts) so id put them a little farther in front in that race.

Nor Dic lol there are a whole range from Skype, Webex, Hangouts, Teams or even WhatsApp video. Zoom doesn’t even have end to end encryption and to top it off even has a 40 min limit on group meetings. Smh
@nordic5490
@nordic5490 4 жыл бұрын
@@montcliffeekuban1335 sure, I have used, or use ongoing most of those for work. Corporates use mostly MS Teams and Cisco Jabber - we do. However, Zoom works just fine, and is universal and is why most schools are using Zoom now. Yes, Houseparty also works on iOs and Android, but not very well on Android. Likewise, Google apps, like Duo probably wont work on iOs. I have been on several club meetings in the last 3 week using Zoom, with 40 fairly non tech savvy participants using a mix of Apple and Android phones and tablet, Macbooks and Laptops. All works just fine. Zoom can also be viewed in a browser without installing an app - very flexible.

What happened to Line? Last year everyone was on that. The thing is all these applications collect your data. If they don't sell it for targeted advertising or the like, why collect it? Also none seem to be secure so it gets "stolen" and sold anyway.

"While Zoom is headquartered in the United States, and listed on the NASDAQ, the mainline Zoom app appears to be developed by three companies in China, which all have the name 软视软件 (“Ruanshi Software”)." Source : citizenlab.ca/2020/04/move-fast-roll-your-own-crypto-a-quick-look-at-the-confidentiality-of-zoom-meetings/ Zoom documentation claims that the app uses AES-256 encryption for meetings where possible. However, we find that in each Zoom meeting, a single AES-128 key which we verified are sufficient to decrypt Zoom packets intercepted in Internet traffic, appear to be generated by server. The AES-128 keys, which we verified are sufficient to decrypt, appear to be generated by Zoom servers , and in some cases, are delivered to participants in a Zoom meeting through servers in China, even when all meeting participants are outside of China.
