Obsolescence creates jobs building new appliances at the expense of our technical repair careers and environment
@How-to-repair Жыл бұрын
Very well said yet again our jobs go overseas to make more machines with cheap labour but our engineers get laid off because of built in obsolescence. consumers will not pay the crazy prices for drums and other parts. When a new machine is not much more than the cost of machine.

Our classic 6 is doing this banging. The wife wants a new black Bosch 9k machine but I said till it dies I’m not buying a new one. Had it 9 years. Im here because I did like 6 loads of washing yesterday as my wife’s just came out of hospital so I’m off work being mother. today the thing wouldn’t drain. The drain plug at the bottom was completely clogged with limescale. After watching this video I’m 100% it’s the same issue. Best video I’ve seen on washing machines. Thanks for the upload

@@How-to-repair I replaced the brushes and ran a successful spin test. However, after I assembled everything and attempted to wash a load, it was no longer spinning. The unit drains successfully and the trap (fluff filter?) is clean and operational. What are some other considerations for the drum not spinning?

Excellent tutorial, Thanks! I had to replace the heating element as this was blowing the plug fuse. Originally I thought I could pull out the heating element from below, but found it was impossible as trying to pull it out it fouled against the front panel. So this lesson was particularly useful on how to dismantle front panel including how to release the door catch having 2 plastic buttons.

Very well explained, in next life you should become a teacher in rocket science. Thank you. It helped me repair my 21 year old Bosch WFD2460. First time it needed repairs; it tripped the mains because of a faulty heater - like you mentioned. - A double check, before opening up the machine, was to run ´cold programs' e.g. rinsing and spinning. In that case no problem because the heater is not in use. - The cold heater's resistance measured ok, only during use (when it gets hot) it's faulty. - To make sure I replaced the NTC and brushes too. - Replacing the brushes was the hardest part, because I did not take the motor out: It took me over an hour and sore knees just to get the springs in the brush holders.

Thanks for this - great video! We have a similar machine of 2006 vintage that's finally died, I think due to the issue you describe. It had become very noisey on spin, while also intermittently squeaking; which sounded like the belt but from other sources I suspect was the drum rubbing the inside of its housing. It's now started leaking at the front of the drum assembly (I assume through damage from all the imbalance / vibration) and tripping the house's RCD. It's already had a replacement motor some years ago after the brushes went and scored the comm... I'd love to repair it again but it seems a drum assembly is the fat end of £200. Given in this video you're stripping this one for bits rather than repairing it, can I (reluctantly) write mine off with good conscience..?

This was at a time when manufacturers were building a reputation, so they built quality now that they own a significant share of the marketplace. They only care about profit. The newer machines are nowhere near the quality of the older machines. There should be no reason why you should not be able to continue repairing your machines, if you are willing to put the time and effort into maintaining them. If you live in the UK, I would recommend Ebac, as they have a tub which can be disassembled, giving access to the bearings, spider, etc. If you absolutely have to go for one with a sealed tub, nowadays I suggest Electrolux or Zanussi, because they have very good programmes. However I am aware that the tub is sealed, and if the spider and bearings are of bad quality, then the machine will have to be thrown out after a much shorter period of time!

The big problem is the ECO all machines are required to run with the bare minimum So no extras water to wash away the additional detergents So detergents accumulate on the spider generating corrosion and oders

That's why I made the video about mould which you also has a piece at the end, which shows you what comes out of the drum after doing a boil wash with my cleaning technique kzbin.info/www/bejne/fp-2aWqKrJmUo68 but I still stand bye 80% of the problem is electrolysis. If you understand the galvanic scale, it is like having a weak link put in to the machine deliberately as this will be the component that deteriorates the quickest. But I do agree with you and detergent will not help if they build up. We did not have this much problems with spiders 20 years ago

How to remove a rusted jammed screw, a T20 screw?
@MrLittleswede22 күн бұрын
You should try to clean off as much rust as possible first. Let some rust remover/rust oil in to the thread. If the T20 is damaged, I would try to hammer in a T20 bit firmly, or maybe a sharp flathead bit, depending on how bad it is. Mind all things you can brake in the process.

Spider cracks from liquid detergent.
@How-to-repair Жыл бұрын
They can break for many reasons the detergent will attack the aluminium, because the manufacturer uses steel and aluminium. This attracts electrolysis, and the weakest link in the galvanic scale is the aluminium. Therefore, it will be the first item to corrode other things like pH levels in water and also overloading machines. Also contribute to the spider going. But for the sake of a few pound extra, they could make stainless steel spiders, and this problem would never happen. In the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, most manufacturers produced high-quality equipment to build their reputations. Now, many have large market shares because they've bought up other brands. For example, Bosch, Neff, and Siemens are one company; AEG, Electrolux, and Zanussi are another; Hotpoint, Indesit, Ariston, and Whirlpool form another group. These conglomerates now control the market but seem less concerned about consumers. Their main goal is to sell machines. They use green marketing tactics to their advantage but aren't held accountable for the growing pile of discarded white goods. Nowadays, machines last only about five years on average.

@How-to-repair @How-to-repair I hear we speak the same language, and I hope the day will come, when a company makes a machine, where I can replace, absolutely everything, in order to make it run, basically forever. Whether they make money on parts, or new machines, makes no difference.. except for the environment of cause. Until then, i'm not touching a new machine. I recently purchased a phillips blender, for 120$, the expensive one, and not the, 20$ one, expecting to get quality. How wrong I was. After few time of use, the ball bearing, holding the blade, started to rust, contaminanting my food. Only washing it by hand, and even drying it on my radiator before storage. So now they lost a good customer, and many more, as I recommend everyone I know, to stay away from phillips.

@hazbizarai11 ай бұрын
You can refurbish them. There is a tutorial, made by a polish technician. Buy a new pair of absorbers from which you can use the aluminium rod(the one fixed on the frame), the inner sleeve and fixing ring. The plastic(ABS?) part can stay on the outer drum and does not need dismantling. I just finished doing this job, on my machine.
