Howard Jones, such a nice guy. I saw him in Limerick way back in the 80s and the fecker actually smiled at me. No seriously, he definitely wasn't looking at the gorgeous person beside me. Him and Paul McCartney must be the two most optimistic people in pop. Love him.

The cellar pub gig space in Oxford, that Howard mentioned, would probably, would have been the Corn Dolly[the Dolly] [in Frewin Court],off Cornmarket Street..a very, very sweaty, sticky floored, stinky venue..but fun..

At the time, as one of the prog appreciators as a teen, this beepy electronic stuff that the charts were full of was considered uncool, even shite. But in comparison to the sort of guff in the current charts the music of Howard's era looks like a golden era. Ultravox and Human League, for instance, are actually interesting in retrospect.

Excellent episode, Howard is one of the good guys. I saw the first tour he mentioned supporting China Crisis, with the mime artist Jed throwing off his mental (and physical) chains! Speaking of China Crisis, you have to get Gary Daly on. He has some hilarious stories and they're about to embark on the "Flaunt The Imperfection" 40th anniversary tour.

I love China Crisis and Howard Jones is brilliant too. CC are one of my favourite bands alongside Manic Street Preachers. If I had to choose a top ten all three would be in it. China Crisis are superb live and Gary Daly is hilarious. He does not do many interviews but in the ones I have seen he is serious and thoughtful about the music. Humans Lib and Dream Into Action by Howard Jones are two of the best albums I bought and I shall give them a listen later today. The messages in his lyrics played a meaningful part in shaping my politics and outlook on life, the music was that important.

Moog pronounced Mohg after the inventor Robert Moog. If you’re going to use one you may as well know how to pronounce it. All the spinal tap groups can pronounce Fender so it’s only fair.

How would you pronounce, ‘pedantic’ ?

He missed a good opportunity to expand upon his long-held humanitarian beliefs...shame!
