To me, this is 1986 AND 1997. In '86 I was just a kid in grade school and this played all the time on the radio, at the pool, that summer. In 1997, I was crushing SOOOO hard on the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, at the same pool, that summer. I could not get enough of her and I just wanted her to notice me. Well, she did. She took quite an interest in me. But, the circumstances would not allow it to happen between us. It was not to be. Today, when we happen to run into each other, we smile and wave and say hello. My God she was spectacular. I was absolutely obsessed with her. Not in a creepy way. I just thought she was drop dead gorgeous and I wanted her to notice me. It was a fun summer.

Especially when you're both married...to other persons. We managed not to do anything scandalous, but it was *so* difficult, lots of cracks and a quake, and then I left town and eventually my spouse & I divorced. Since 2015, haven't had contact with the man I think of whenever I hear this song. Mutual decision. Even though I never had the affair, the intense mutual attraction is what finally convinced me how miserable I was in my marriage of 25 years. My attraction to that would-be lover ended up being the catalyst that convinced me I needed to leave my miserable marriage. That is the silver lining. Some of us manage to do the right thing, but it is so very painful. I still think about that married man every day, but he was only meant to be the man who held the lantern to show me the way out.
