Yes, great tune. In summer of 89 or 90, can’t remember exactly it was the summer this was released I had a friend in junior high that lived next door to my older brothers GF. Strange, but I came back to this song this morning to send to my 34 year old daughter who doesn’t know who she is…!?! Of course I was here on Sunday 3/17, but I referenced Sinead to her and unfortunately she was too young and missed this whole story about her life, and horrible abuse, SNL incident, which never should’ve defined her, I knew my kid would love the whole “package” Sinead was. I was alive when The Lion and the Cobra came out. It was absolutely legendary, but, only to the underground scene and we felt privileged to be the first witnesses to her genius. I wish that pop culture had taken the time to explore her music before her cover of Prince’s song. I am in no way impugning Princes’s achievements, however, Sinead’s work was so filled with the tragedy and passion that would tear you down and empower you at the same time. I wish that I could have spoken to her, not as a fan but, as someone who could have made her understand that she wasn’t alone in her torment and that the end of the tunnel isn’t as far away as it appears, more’s the pity..

I remember being in my sophomore year of high school, and picking up a CD of an unknown artist named Sinead O’Connor. I stared at the CD case for so many hours. Her eyes were hypnotic and was a classic, natural, beauty. Yet, she as punk rock and rebellious as they come. I had never heard anything like her, and I thought she was so talented with a powerful voice, and even more powerful lyrics. She did not fit the pop princess type and certainly never tried to be that. She often spoke about injustices and was marked for it. Consequently, record labels did not want to represent her. I admired her tenacity in the causes that were important to her. She was one of the few people that were so outspoken to talk about all the sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. I was so incredibly sad to hear of her passing. She had many struggles throughout her life, especially losing her beloved son, Shane last year. I’m afraid that she never was able to get over that. Rest in peace beautiful Sinead. I hope you and Shane are together now ❤

If someone asks you if you would prefer a dead arm or a kick in the balls, choosing a dead arm does not by default mean you think that is a good thing and only the least worst option.
