Never heard of Dick Cavett until a few months ago, these shows have helped keep me sane during this lock down. It’s amazing how good the interviews are, and the variety of people. Kinda like Joe Rogan, just with less weed and a bit cleaner.

GayJew I wouldn’t say that. Again, I like joe Rogan. But it depends on the guest. Rogan would do better with Stern or idk, maybe a lot of performers and comedians. But Cavett would do better with someone like Norman Mailer or Ingmar Bergman. It just depends on the guest.

GayJew joe is very interesting and entertaining but he’s not educated enough to really challenge views but I like how he remains neutral with most guests but Cavett is much more interesting as he brings on guests with opposing views

There was a time when people were very interested to hear what others had to say, and that was its own form of entertainment. Cavett is good because he's serious and injects witticisms. Even the old Merv Griffin show isn't bad. Carson was the last standard bearer of serious conversation and also fun. Letterman was sort of the beginning of more wackiness and less seriousness. Leno followed suit to compete on Letterman's level but, even Jay kept it a little more serious and was able to maintain a higher mean age of viewer. Today, there's just no seriousness. Every sentence uttered by hosts and guests is intended for a laugh. You can't take anything serious. All the guests are there to do is PR for whatever project they are working on. Carson would bring Jimmy Stewart on for no other reason than to talk to Jimmy Stewart. He did that with a lot of people. Robin Williams was a favorite of his for that purpose. But as crazy as it sounds; today, Conan is the more serious interviewer. I can't stand Fallon's fake laugh over everything the guest says. Joe Rogan has really tapped into something the networks are ignoring. I.E. There are a lot of people that like to hear serious interviews, still. But it's harder for the networks to sell that to the advertisers. They want the fast easy buck. Same goes for funny KZbin clips that get millions of views. Rogan has no problem getting guests because it's very low stress and low expectations. So many guests go on network talk shows and they know they have to bring it. They have to work and be funny and entertaining. Joe Rogan - let's just talk. You get more real people in that setting.

How times change! A man who rebelled against WaPo at one point, uses it as a Bible now! As much as I loved Howard at one point, all he ever cared about was money and power. I don’t hate him for it. It’s just a plain and simple observation.

@@charlespatrick8650 You may have misunderstood me. The other woman than Rice was at the same time as Rice in 88. His reputation though was apparently known in 84 but to my knowledge wasn't reported, and wasn't the reason he didn't get the nomination at that time. If you want to do this then you will do it but for those who don’t, do something else and I never wanted to live the life. I rather be on the sidelines and people watch and have a opinion or not because at the end of day it isn’t that serious!! This is why I watched HS when he was on that cable network. I watched him because even with the craziness and rudeness, it just wasn’t that serious for me to get offended and turn off the TV. If you don’t like then turn the channel because it is a matter of personal taste. Certain TV or Shows are not for everyone and certain professions aren’t either!

heh, I mean ppl 'sold their soul to make a record'?; imo anyone on any media exist on the "shill" spectrum; like Cavett literally has to cut that lady's story off;, either being absent minded, or ..passive aggressive?. What was interesting here is that imo this is more similar to the graham norton setup, perhaps due to wrestling with Howard, but generally speaking I thought that woman as a professional was more legit, before news was less legit such that :: I was impressed her being able to pivot answering Howard's quips about 'wheelchair' and whatnot, but more so the history of obscenity and Cavett's mock of ... aristocratic monarchies @ 10:57?
