Early Bobcat was an Andy Kaufman-like comic. He raised his voice for no apparent reason like a psycho, which was the joke, whereas Kinison raised his voice on punchlines, basically

Totally, I've watched a lot of both and the only similarity is 'high-energy comics'. Bob was like 'crazy drug guy' with a lot of non-sequiturs like "Scott Baio is the antichrist" (one of the most-prescient things ever said in the '80s), and Sam was specifically a 'pissed off about women' guy, with a very different and very angry vibe.

Kinison started his act, not as a comedian, but as a Pentecostal preacher like his father was. Nothing like the Bobcat. Never heard about this beef before and kinda wonder if this was just a fake beef like what they do in WWF/WWE. I'm also perfectly willing to believe that Scott Baio is the Antichrist.

The fake voice and fake persona is a device comedians use to protect themselves. No matter what a heckler or assailant says or does against them, it doesn't matter, because that's not really them. It's a weird form of extroverted disassociation. Bobcat grew out of that and has become more transparent. So let it slide. I don't know of any other comedian who has come more out of the closet about what show biz is really like than him.

I never equated or compared or thought Kinison and Bobcat were anything alike at all. I was in Portland so we didn't get Stern till 1998 on radio. We did have the E! Show. .. So at the time .. I knew nothing of this .. Kinison is out of order I believe. Bobcat was nothing like Kinison. Two separate gags completely. Kinison was an edgy dark comic.. Bobcat was a goofy bum cartoon character .. I don't see any correlation.

Bobcat being funny is subjective so I won’t start with that, but it’s pretty much the opposite bro. Kinnison was way more famous & successful so Bobcat started to poke at him and talk shit about what a horrible person he is and that he steals acts in the media then whenever Sam would confront him he’d put on a Leno and act like he did nothing. It’s been many years since Sam died and Bobcat is still going to the media saying Sam is a misogynist, a friend of terrorists, a druggie, a bully etc. he even has said he’s glad Sam died. Like that’s all you need to know about that piece of shit bobcat. He’s STILL mad about a dumb feud and attacking a dead man’s character.

No he was not bigger than Bobcat. Kinison was a decade older than Bobcat and started in 78, and hit it big in 85, Bobcat started in 80, and hit it big in 84. So just take it from 1985 to 1992 when Kinison died, and compare their careers. Kinison's career does not touch Bobcats, or come anywhere near it. Kinison was on the way out when he died. He was down to doing New Year's Eve hosting duties for FOX, which was the last thing he ever did on TV. Now were they both unique during that period of 85 to 92, yes, did they both make a splash, yes, but who had a bigger and better career during those 7 years, Bobcat. Kinison basically became known as an undependable, paranoid, erratic drug addict, and now 99% of the stories others tell of him are more about him doing drugs than anything else. Being well known for being an addict is not a good thing.

@@DABA2024 Anthony Cumia is happy doing what he's doing and employs a full staff of people. Changing equals the Pelican not leaving his basement for 3 years. Therapy has made him more insane. He doesn't even do a fucking show anymore and they are paying him 100 million. Imagine supporting a guy that stinks because he's being paid a lot by the fools at Sirius.

Dice was kinda right about Sam being a bully...that said, no movie producer hires a drunk coked up comedian.

I dunno. Richard Pryor got plenty of work prior to setting himself on fire. After too.

@@happiness1772 true. But bro, you're taking about Richard Pryor, with all due respect to all other comedians, Pryor was ahead of his time, same with Carlin.

@@francescodagostino3640 I'm not trying to defend Sam or anything. He comes across as an insecure drugged out jerk, at least before he got sober. But plenty of movie studios have hired actors/comedians that have substantial drug/alcohol problems. In some cases (see Judy Garland), they even caused and supported those problems.
