I encountered this in an collaboration with a group of my classmates, I foresaw that everyone wanted control and wanted things their way. With that said I was not about put that on my brain to try and salvage it, so I removed myself from the equation. It's sad but I saw their was a lack of communication and maturity, too much infighting so I left. The timing was off with the whole covid19 situation and other various factors. However, never let that stop you from a collaboration at all, a collaboration can create something beautiful and can become quite fun. Not sure if this makes any sense but I just wanted to share this because of this enlightening video ❤

I think I really like these tips, not just to animation but to other projects I am participating in as well. I especially like the ones focusing on communication, as it definitely isn't my strong suit and is something I have been trying to improve while working with other people.

Thanks Howard...very valuable tips. Question: how common is it these days for teams to work together remotely, without ever seeing each other in person? Is that the norm, (especially for independents)? If so, that would be a great subject for discussion...team meetings, coordination, stuff like that. I’m finding people I like on KZbin and could definitely see teams coming together. I know that a lot of records (music) are made this way. Thanks again. 🙏🎩

(This comment is just a ramble without proofreading, in the subject of small collaboration projects) (I am not an animator, or a director, or know anything about project-management and leadership) Everyone likes to have as much creative freedom/influence as possible, to feel significant with their work. It's understandable that an animator would want their contribution (which they most likely subjectively think is a genuinely fitting and viable idea, having not compared it to other team members') to be worthy of getting into the final concept. Moreso, it's not rare for a lot of them to be so invested into their idea that they envision it to be a huge part of the overall team project. (They would want it even more, if it's what they think to be their potential "big break" into the industry) It's not justifiable though, if everyone wants that, and each one tries to cram their way through a limited pool of ideas with each of their entire vision. Many times, if the idea fits its way in, it'd be much smaller than it should be in its scope (due to content-time reasons, since you can't fit everything. Animation is much work, for a few seconds of content), and would have to accommodate other ideas that might not be consistent with it (perhaps, the idea is more suited towards it's own thing if it's overly ambitious). No-one in that situation would get what they want. That's a reason why a director exists. A leader (who we'll assume to be the one who wrote a fundamental story-structure of the project), once pitches from the team come in at once (they can't likely be submitted when solid work has already progressed, because of disruptions), that leader can compare those pitches and determine if they follow the base-structure. I think, it's good to make the audience acknowledge the team as an overall organization/studio FIRST. Then, acknowledge the dictated director. The director, assuming they worked smart and compassionately for the team, can get the primary recognition, but not more, as everyone else also needs to be recognized if they have to get another foot in the door for their animating future.

I would like to say a few sentences about leadership as well. And that is, leadership is not a status. You are in line with others, but you are not above anyone in your team. This has been a misconception for some foolish leaders, who are justified with narcissistic behavior because they are in quotes, 'a leader'. Which is understandable because humans are naturally inclined to wanting to seek power. They see themselves in a mirror, rather than through their windows. Its called leadership ROLE for a reason. One of the best leaders is willing to humiliate themselves when they make mistakes and are willing to take full-on responsibility when things go out of hand. etc

Great video, thank you! I liked the efficiency tip as well... Can you recommend a video (yours or any other creator's) for learning different types of animation methods, styles, to understand their differences and choose one for a project? I would like to turn an emotion-image therapy session into an animation (we work with images which transform along the session), it does not have to be super complex in drawings / realism, etc, but the feel of it and look is important. It could possibly be a unique project for a talented animator for a portfolio. it will be posted on my channel, might submit to some festival as well. My budget is quite modest but I am happy to offer my services.
