You may need to consult your user's manual to fully understand how to fix these issues. 1. Take out your bobbin and reinstall it properly first. Many times your bobbin thread is loose from its 'moorings.' 2. Rethread your top thread as well. 3. Test on a scrap, adjusting tension until you've got it right. In conclusion: Adjusting tension is not going to fix improperly seating bobbins or improperly threaded top threads.

Thank you for the video. I have a question. My machine needs really high tension (>7) to have an ok straight stitch, but at the same tension the top stitch breaks when I try the zig-zag stitch. Is that the top or the bobbin pulling too hard? Also, there is no perfect stitch in any setting. On the zig-zag setting there’s absolutely no good or okay stitch at any tension level. How can I fix this? I have the same model Kenmore as in the video, but it’s 17 years old and has not been used for over 10 of those years. I’m trying to get it back in shape so I can use it again, but I don’t want to ruin fabric or clothing with bad stitching. Help!

On mine, the top stitches look great with 0 tension, but on the back, it looks awful. It’s very loopy and loose on the back. But as soon as I adjust it to a 1, the bobbin thread comes through on the top. I’m not sure what to do.

Your machine only has one tension. both my old machine's have bobbin tension & foot tension which takes a bit of skill to remember which tension for which fabric so I am suggesting to all to keep a tension diary & test 1st. Old machines have a tighter tension than new ones.

does anyone else feel like i do. i replaced my really old white sewing machine for a brand new brother machine..... rarely did i have to adjust the tension on my old machine like i do with my new one....... is it the machine, the threads they make now, the materials? I am so frustrated with the almost constant adjusting of the tension
@jojozepofthejungle26558 жыл бұрын
yes it's very infuriating so I suggest a tension diary on what works for each fabric type. Their is more than just stitch tention on older models, theirs bobbin & foot tension to get right. I was going to buy a new cheapie but I bet it's no different, maybe less sturdy? I suggest a book just about sewing tension, it's helped me a lot. Good luck

I have even tried changing other dials along with the tension dial, so many different combinations... NOTHING is changing the tension.???
@traciadkins630110 жыл бұрын
Kimberly, I was having the exact same issue and after further research online I found a website that suggested double checking to ensure that your machine was threaded correctly. Guess what? Mine wasn't! I installed the bobbin upside down (the end of the thread should point toward the neck of the machine, so that when you manipulate the needle with the turn knob on the side of the machine you should see the bobbin thread cross over the top of the bobbin toward the needle). Once I fixed that my tension was a snap to adjust to sew correctly. Hope this helps. The wesite also suggested cleaning your machine and ensuring that your needle was in good repair. Traci

It could be the bobbin tension then depending on whether it is a top loading or front loading machine there will be a small screw that u can turn right tight left loosy still applies BUT ONLY TURN 1/8 TO 1/4 TURNS AT A TIME then test it again
@AlysonJackson6 жыл бұрын
I’m still confused. How in the heck are you able to tell the tension w/o having to guesstimate. I understand factors like the thread and fabric takes part but I don’t want to get sewing on a project and the threading bunches up or does exactly what it did in this video when it was too loose or tight. If you could explain a little more, that will be greatly appreciated.
