If you want to use running to lose weight, you may want to consider getting the okay from physician to start. Also, to help to make sure that you're successful with this, you might want to consider looking into getting a sports nutritionist or dietitian. This person will make it a lot easier to help you with the direction in where you're going so that you reach your goals.
Sometimes when you use running to lose weight you'll reach a plateau and this because you might be doing the same training program week after week. What you need to do at this point is change your routine. Maybe you're not doing strength training on the side. Maybe you can incorporate a speed workout or a hill workout. These things will challenge a different part of your body and get that fat burning system going to help challenge you a little more and help you reach your goals.
So there are different things you can do with running to lose weight. Maybe you can increase miles for your long runs. The longer you go over about an hour, hour and a half, your body start to incorporate a fat burning process. But a key part of that is that you actually need to take calories in while you're running to help to continue that fat burning process. It seems counter productive but that's not exactly true. Fat burns in the flame of carbohydrates. So to keep that fat burning process going you need to actually take calories in. If you're going for about 45 minutes to an hour, after that you want to start to take in about 100 calories maybe every 30 minutes, but keep that pace going.
To help with the weight loss try to vary up your running routine. Your body can actually get bored by doing the same workout each time, week after week. So vary it. You can do a speed workout one day a week, you can do a long run on your weekends, and maybe find time for a tempo workout later in the week. So maybe speed, Tuesday, Wednesday. Tempo, Thursday or Friday and do your long run on the weekend. It'll challenge various parts of your body and keep that fat burning going so that you continue to lose weight

I started running for 3 weeks for one hour a day. I was 222 and now I am at 208. I also changed my diet I've been eating lots of veggies and fruits.

Irving Diaz Honestly I weigh 210 and I'm only 15 years old.my height is "5.5". So if I run just and hour a day and eat only fruits and vegetables it should help me?How many calories should I have worth of vegetables and fruits?

nononono, eat a balanced diet because if you have no carbs or protein or fat your body will go into starvation mode and store fat. just get your protein and fat from healthy places like beans and nuts, and your carbs from all whole foods

i started running 8 weeks ago couldn't even run 5 minutes now i run 30 minutes everyday did one 45 minute run last week. I've lost 26 lbs just 10 more lbs to go !

I'm in read right and run. You have to read 26 books, do 26 good deeds, run 26 miles. I just ran my first mile and I'm tired.

I jog for only about 10 minutes a day 15 minutes max and do 3 to 4 days of strength training along with MMA training which i count as my speed workout. The whole key is to eat healthy since I start 9 in the morning for work that's when I go for my jog and after work only 3 to 4 times a week I'll train at my fight gym. Remember stay active, change it up a bit and eat clean so plenty of Veggies and proteins. :D

+San An You are on the ball with your training and health plan. I am a boxer but I use cycling and swimming and my diet is paleo orientated which means it is mostly vegetables a little meat and then a little fruit.

I need help!This may sound weird but I am 11 years old and I way 170 pounds.... I am way over weight. I need an answer on healthy snack choices and healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have already been bullied in 5th grade because of how big i am.... I will not let it happen in 6th grade. Will it hurt me to run 30 minutes every day up and Down the street? I am not going to start everything I have planed in till I get an answer.Please help.

I'm probably not going to be much help but I would say that 1. If you are getting bullied then talk to your parents/counselor about it and 2. Don't let it bother you. In terms of healthy snacks I would say what nature gave us. I know exactly what you are going through since I went through the same thing and it does get better. But one thing you also need to remember is that don't change yourself because its someone else's idea. Everyone is perfect in their own way. I would try running though because it is good for your health but just please make sure you do it for yourself and not others. 😊

+Rose Barr Hey, if you're going to run to lose weight just remember to keep a healthy diet & to change your running activities because if you keep doing the same thing your body will adapt and you'll eventually stop losing the weight, but don't worry about the bullies. Do what makes you happy.☺

I was 165 pounds and I'm 13 and I feel so bad about my body and it's so uncomfortable so I started going for runs with my friends and I lost 5 pounds in 4/5 days so running can help a little bit 😜😝👊🏽

Zion Cavazos you might be getting shin splints. I had this in highschool and it's extremely painful, the best way to get rid of it is rolling a tennis ball (or any hard small ball) on the plantar surface (under) of your foot. you have to do it really hard (itll hurt) for 10 mins for a few days and then it goes away. this is short term tho, strengthen your glutes if you wanna get rid of the problem over all. I did these two things and I've never gotten shin splints ever again.

I was literally in the exact same position when I was 12. I was around 135 pounds and I know how you feel. Something that you can do is jog for 30 minutes a day. I know, it seems like a lot, but it definitely helps. Another thing you can do is jump rope. But make sure that you don't over exhaust yourself; take it slow, especially when you first start. Something that you need to cut of your diet is soda and juices. You can have a cheat day, but make sure to only drink a maximum of two cups of soda a week. Drink plenty of water, and if you ever get hungry, eat some fruit. Hope this helped! :D

+Cookie Ash Do what every you feel is necessary mate. But I'll tell you something, don't overdo it, take it easy and gradually work your up to your goal. Eat in moderation, and most definitely, do not starve yourself. It'll do way more harm than good.

As long as you push yourself as hard as you can you will lose weight. Make sure you've given everything in your run. Connecting running time and weight loss is very complicated because you can't incorporate your running speed and if you're running a incline (up a hill) or decline (down a hill) I run for 6 minutes a day a distance of 1 mile incline and I lose weight. Give your everything!

I don't want to gain muscle right now, I just want to burn fat I run on my treadmill and once am done I sweat like crazy cause I always love it when am running and micheal jacskon beat it is playing but anyways am 5,9 and weigh 160 and am 15 so I'm not obese but am on the verge of being overweight so I'm running like crazy so once my gym opens in school I'll be Ready to gain that muscle

+Five Alive You will get better results if you focus on diet with exercise. You could over do the exercise part without realizing it. Eating a diet that balances carbohydrates, fat and protein will allow you to cut the excess fat. As a boxer my diet is based upon 80% vegetables, 10% fruit and 10% meat. But you could easily do it with 60% veg, 30% meat and 30% fruit. Have a look at the paleo diet. There is also a good video on how to reverse type 2 diabetes which more or less applies to everybody and it give excellent tips as well.

+bighands69 Agreed. Also +five alive , the number one easy win to loose weight is to cut out all refined sugar. The value of this is so great that is supersedes exercise (in terms of weight loss).

My plan is jogging and hills Wednesdays jogging and sprints Thursdays and jogging and muscle training stuff Fridays. My question is, anyone know some exercise I could do to work out legs, upper body, abs, etc. at a public park? I don't have a gym membership or weights at home. There is a playground however which I've already started using to incorporate pull ups.

I think my problem lies in my stride, I can't seem to move from jogging into a run. I'm about 5'10" and weigh around 215lbs. I feel like a car that can't shift into the next gear. :(

just keep going for it! I'm 15, around 220, and 6'3. my goal is to run a mile a day all summer starting this Thursday. I'm getting a bit anxious, but still have to keep in mind your end goal! Just always stick to your goal, just keep on working for it, don't stop!

Help - What - Help - from 1:16 to 1;26 she says if Im running from 45 to 60 minutes I got that I rewound the film 3 times then she used the word ( after that ) you want to try take in so many calories every 20 minutes yep got that also. but then 1;22 to 1;26 she says the word and try to keep that pace going, what does that mean , do i take in calories as I run or after the run. Can i take in calories by diluting my 4 bottles of water in the gym with some nutrients in the water mixed. I run hard so I need 4 water bottles 500ml . please help I am hooked on running but I feel my body is saying UMMM cmon Jimmy.easy. Lol

+LexiC Isaiah49 Hi, I am often at work for 24 hrs or more,so I try to squeeze in a gardening half day during the weekend,household chores or if you prefer cycling for groceries.You chose what you enjoy doing as long as you keep moving daily.Avoiding junk food,keeping hydrate should see you about half a kg down each week.Do seek medical advice if you have any condition or if you embark on drastic changes. That should do for the first few months and works for me.
