I know this happened months ago and bare with me as I try to explain this and I am black, I’m not apart of the Latinx community but I do see that they do have something in common with other foreigners! I am from the Caribbean and one thing that I’ve noticed is that when my family members would come from our country they would try be accustomed to the culture here because they feel like it will make it easier. So they try to adopt the values of the dominant culture which is WHITE AMERICA to “fit in”. A lot of people feel like it is a privilege to be in America especially foreigners so they adopt ideologies and values of our oppressors which is why it is hard for minorities to come together as one sometimes because we pay so much attention to our differences and is also why a lot of minority groups don’t speak on social justice issues. On another hand I feel like people think black issues are overriding other minority issues and they want time to shine on the issues in their community, I see what she was trying to do but it was just bad timing and poor choice of words on her part.

Yea really poor choice of words. And really ultimately it’s comes down to this in America, and I am about to oversimplify, if you’re not white in America your black and that’s that.

That I really never understood. Same race same culture but they still want to oppress the ppl with darker skin? What does that even do for the oppressor?

@@HowDoIKnowYou Hey! Very interesting podcast! I'm learning a lot about U.S culture by listening! "What does that even do for the oppressor?" I'm from a non-hispanic latin country (Brasil) and I think that colorism is the biggest problem related to racism all over latinoamerica - depending how light your skin is you can have access to a lot of privilege. Also by having someone else as a target, you can dodge/divert the racism that would be directed to you. “Quando a educação não é libertadora, o sonho do oprimido é ser o opressor” - Paulo Freire. ("When education is not liberating, the dream of the oppressed is to be the oppressor")

@@HowDoIKnowYou most "latinos" in US are just "white" in their countries. Like, if Mark was born in Brazil he'd be white.

Dang, I could finally have privilege and immediately abuse it 😎
