While they might have been thinking "haha funny meme game" I'm not at all surprised it hit 500k downloads so quickly. Hololive is much bigger than people outside the scene usually think. While they aren't nearly as large as the largest channels on KZbin with 10s of millions of subs, they've got quite a few channels which have broken a million subs, and several with notably higher counts. On top of the sheer number of fans in the scene, games like this appeal to communities outside the vtuber scene as well, drawing interest from an even wider group of people.

Some are kinda touchy about Aki as this is a rare boon to the vtuber (who rarely has an easy time of it, particularly in visibility) and people fear a nerf hitting too hard would make no one play her thus negate that (because the effort needed is too high for the payout). That's real likely with characters of Aki's type. She's the only not so successful hololive member in the game and it feels like their difficulties are based on their careers, thus Aki being one of the hardest characters to learn, second to Sora (whose firsr stream only had 13 people). Characters like Korone and Botan had pretty blessed careers in comparison. But I won't lie, I did get a kick out of hearing about AK mains wreaking havoc because it's a rare win for Aki. But on the FGC side of things, people seem more inclined to overlook an OP character if they're easy and/or cool and more inclined to call for nerfs if they're not. Examples of each are Aegis from smash ultimate and Melee Jiggypuff. There's also the era of Yun in I think USF4.

I play Aki and seeing that Aki player makes me want to get at least 10% as good as that. To me, getting a character to be "broken" like that is almost impossible as I'm like most other casual fighting game player, we play against the arcade or AI and then only sometimes play online and get wrecked by randoms. The player being that good at the character shouldn't really be seen as the character itself being OP since the online mode of the game isn't even complete. Getting a more polished matchmaking would allow the devs to tweak the characters later, but right now there are probably many crouching tigers and hidden dragons that could be as good or even better than that Aki player. Tbh, if a fighting game pro says that Aki isn't good I would go to the dev and beg them for a buff instead of dog piling the pro because of his opinion. Holocure, another Hololive fan game, had a bunch of tierlists about which characters are good, easy to play or what characters can get you the highest dps, money or time survived. (If the leaderboard wasn't broken the game would also be somewhat of a competitive game.) So making a an Idol Showdown character tierlist wouldn't really cause problems... especially since the devs are constantly fixing and tweaking the game to polish it. If you don't bad mouth the characters you don't really need to be afraid of liking or disliking their playstyle. (Do people actually bad mouth fighting game characters because other people play better?) *Unless* you're really looking for drama and clicks, to do that you only need to make a tierlist of which Idol Showdown character has the best hips and *NOT* put Coco and Aki at the top. That would really rile up some fans lol

The difference between you enjoying the game despite being rekt by Aki is that you play fighting games and are used to this. Every game's got despicable stuff, and you likely won't see it as a beginner for a while, but I've still been turned off by certain games' exact brand of despicable high-level stuff, because I know it's going to be a deal-breaker if I ever make it that high. One of the fun things of this fandom of late is seeing people willingly jump into a part of it that has extended to their own sphere of interest, then be completely clueless to all the in-jokes, terms, and personalities within. But games like Idol Showdown and Holocure are actually fun enough that they endure and just have to make up their own headcanon, or actually decide to learn. I played this game for like a few hours with my friends, asked one of them who their favorite Hololive person was, and just mained that character because I don't know shit about VTubers. Got Korone, she turns into Mario, makes a little "NYAH" sound when she does jumping M, and has the chainsaw from Doom.
