The Grain Bin is full which means we have to sell the rest of the corn! If the moisture comes down, we may transfer or add a little more to top the bins off.

CURRENT SCHEDULE
Expect a new video every Sunday and Wednesday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a KZbin channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

I’d still love to see the harvesters used as dry corn storage. Cheaper than building another bin. In central WI our neighbor buys/takes old ones and is relocating them for grain storage.

I have picked ear corn as late as March, little decline in quality, but deer dinged the yield. But now, ear corn is a relic, and getting shell corn in around 20% is the target, and drying it down to 16% pays back. Go figure

Your videography is great, you're using some tech, the stirring augers, that I hadn't seen before. I used to work for a major corporation at a plant, before I retired over a year ago that had 25 flour silos that feed our production lines. I used to have to argue the maintenance that the dehumidifiers were working just fine, and they weren't the reason the flour lines would back up at times. Our dehumidifiers only dried the space above the flour. We had to rely on the flour coming in at the right moisture levels, almost got into fights over trying to describe their ignorance to them. the dehumidifiers only blew into the air space above the flour to hold down mold growth, and we went thru over a million pounds of flour at our plant a year. Anytime the silo was in use outside ambient air was being blown into a fluidizer bed below so it would flow into the about 10" wide hole at the bottom and be carried away by air pressure being blown thru pipes below rotating auger veins that dropped into the airflow.

Hi...i'm always curious about how you "organize" your land. I'm a hillside farmer in Italy and im thinking of making green strips around level curves (clover or alfalfa) to limit erosion. Is that the sense or you have done it according to some laws (wildlife etc). Do you already have a video where you explain that? Keep up the good content!!!

It is usually called contour farming and it is done to control erosion.

Strip farming was popular and encouraged by USDA back in the 80's to slow erosion.
