Clean undercarriage, drive hubs at the end of each day to prevent mud from freezing especially on top of the undercarriage. Park it “high and dry”- on old tires or pallets. Spray with WD 40 or 3m silicone spray or 3m 5-way penetrating spray to prevent freezing. Cleaning at the end of the work day whatever hour day or night that may be is well worth the effort to avoid a major headache the following day. Also, if you find yourself in muddy terrain, drive to the deep snow first to minimize mud buildup on the undercarriage and drive hubs. Happy New Year!

Having just a small little 40 horse tractor with a bucket on the front and a 3-point back with a blade, I am in total agreement Ryan it is a word of difference. Use the blade to clear the paths and then the bucket if you have to move the snow piles.

I used to pile snow around the foundation of the house or put bales down around the house and then pile snow on and around the bales both are good insulation to use during the winter also I've used the spray foam on the inside of the foundation in the basement especially in cracks first on then cover the foundation or cut strips of plywood and notch out the studs on the plywood and and staple insulation to the plywood and then screw the plywood into place

We use compressed are and a leaf blower to get most of the snow out. The problem with the heater is unless you park it else where or on good rock for it to drain away, it has a tendency to freeze the water just melted off machine. If the snows frozen keep it frozen and blow it off.

@landerson10124 жыл бұрын
You have about as best solution to rid the tracks of snow as anything. One tip I have seen for traction is people have put ice screws in the tread. The heads are made of carbide for longer life. But then you get the pleasure of removing them in the spring.

I knew a farmer that dug down in the dirt of his barn to put heavy plastic shipping pallets in the hole so when he parked his telehandler the snow would melt into the cracks of the pallets and not freeze his unit to the ground. He also said spraying the cog wheels with "Pam" non stick spray did wonders too... I am not sure, but it worked for him... lol
@rickduquette33994 жыл бұрын
Here's a suggestion for you to try, you might like it or not Take some of those wooden palettes that you have laying around and line them up where you want to park the JCB. Not only will it give you a spot to park it but it will keep it high enough off the floor so the tracks won't freeze up after you have melted off the snow from the tracks. And the ground will get a chance to let the water drain away or dry up. Just remember to keep a close eye on that heater when you have it running. OR since you're having new tires put on your truck you could put the old ones down on the ground and drive the JCB on top of them. turn on the heater snow melts away and the JCB is up off the wet ground and no frozen tracks. I see that a few other folks had similar suggestions, so go and try out one or more and please let us know how things worked out.

@tbix19634 жыл бұрын
You might want to consider digging out a small trench just narrower than the distance between your tracks. Put in some type of wood or timber to park on and put the heater on low at one end of trench blowing heat from the back up under the machine allowing both tracks to melt at the same time. A sheet of plywood or whatever you have handy leaned against the side of the tracks should help keep the heat concentrated on the tracks. I had to work on my car in the driveway once with the door open for access. Parked the car on a tarp and brought the loose end up over the open door and across the roof, held it in place by closing it in the door. Put an old popcorn air popper under the car, was nice and toasty even though it was negative teens outside.

I think I’d probably try putting some small square hay bales around it to stop the cold getting to it if that was doable 🤔🤔 . Not sure how cold it gets there 🥶🥶 But initially keep away from the exhaust 🤗🤗 . Otherwise an insulated shed just big enough to take the JCB and ur heater 🤗

If you knock of the easier bits of snow and ice before taking the JCB inside there's less for the heater to melt and it should go faster. Takes a lot of energy to melt snow so any you can remove outside is a bonus, plus it's not melted on the floor of your shed.

We used to have a float position on our truck mounted snow plows. We were told they wanted us to use them to protect cutting edges from un-even wear. We had to worry about hitting manhole frames in the city so I guess it made some sense. If you hit the frame at an angle it would float over it.

The downward slope of the lifting arm is pointing down to the bucket when going forward due to any possible catch forces. When going in reverse, if the bucket catches the arm is going in the up direction. Now Ryan says that he tilts the bucket back so if anything is going to catch, it will be the smooth part of the bucket and will glide over the catch point.

Just a curious question: Don't you use proper winter tires in your climate? I don't mean standard M+S instead studded or friction tires that keep softer in cold temp. It's compulsory in Sweden Dec to end of March. We use mostly electric fan heaters for building work. Outside you can put a tarp over what you want to heat up and fan under it. Good luck with your winter chores, Ryan! On similar rubber tracked snow vehicles we have used same biodegradable fluid as concrete trucks uses not to get concrete splatter to fasten. Works well in cold also to take away hard frozen ice.
