I never quite had the chance myself, things just took a turn and I wound up on a different path, and by this point I've forgotten so much of my training, but it is what it is. The important thing is that you feel satisfied with what you're doing, and your videos are pretty damn high quality, so that's good. I was the one who talked to you on the discord, btw.

What I tend to do is use natural lighting and environments for my pictures. For example since I live in Washington state. My Often go to spot is what I have title (and so have many of the locals) gundam peaks (due to many people like myself using it for pictures) and next to the peaks is a waterfall cavern/cave that I call the cavern falls. Those spots Pacifically are out standingly good for taking model kit pictures in the cavern especially in the summer with how the falls are positioned they hit the sun just right to give this weird glowing effect inside kinda like you see at the bottom of a pool. It's perfect for land poses. The peaks have the falls in the background making them perfect for making it seem like the kit flew out of the falls and onto the peaks.

+Joseph De Jesus Thanks! Trust me, I want to do them more frequently. Having a full time job makes it tougher though. I'm starting to shoot multiple videos at once to hopefully get more out faster.

Happy to benefit from your over priced education. I feel your pain. Still this helped me a great deal and I feel foolish for taking Gunpla pics the way I have been for all these years. Thank you for making this.

Why not just use the box tops of your kit boxes
@sokuna24047 жыл бұрын
I've used clamp-on work lights with reflector dishes, they are about $6 at most hardware stores. Its creates a softer effect than a spotlight but a little harsher than a diffuser.

This taught me so much! I’ve never taken a photography class before, but now I wanna apply this knowledge everywhere I can- not just model kits, but human subjects for portraits too! Does this apply to sketching/painting as well?

How convenient! I happen to have those very Jansjö Ikea lamps. I've just got my eyes set on a better camera than my phone
@Nessiechomp Жыл бұрын
so I've been in the hobby for close to a year now and have also been taking a photography class. For my final project I thought it would be fitting to combine the two. I was thinking of applying some of the principles you brought up in this video. Unfortunately, Ikea doesn't sell those desk lamps anymore, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions for alternatives

@BadGunpla17 жыл бұрын
+Ensosuketaka both of these are good things. Aside from that, packing foam in thin sheets works great for bigger or brighter lights. If your using LEDs, everyday pocket tissues and a rubber band can work if they're thin enough.

Hello from discord! Would you recommend using these techniques for stop motion?
@BadGunpla17 жыл бұрын
+Wesley Jones Stop motion is basically just a bunch of pictures over and over again, but since you'll be moving your subjects, you'll want to consider your lighting a little more. Keep in mind that bigger lights means bigger coverage area, so if you plan on moving around a lot, you might want some larger lights. Depends on how much you're moving, really.
@wesleyjones11707 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Thanks man! Keep up the good work

I just turn ISO down on my camera, BOOM super dark background nicely lit gunpla
@BadGunpla17 жыл бұрын
+Ultra Prime ISO is only one part of the equation. A lower ISO will darken your shot, sure, and reduce camera noise (it's simulating film speed), but you need an already well lit area or have to be outdoors to compensate. If you're like me and live in a tiny apartment, you might not be afforded that luxury. I want to talk more about aperture and shutter speed as well as ISO in a future video.
