Long gets to state “Alzado and I “ on the way to the Super Bow . Priceless.

I love the genuine conversation of an NFL legend just talking about Lyle Alzado and their rituals before a game together

Howie is my all-time favorite player, partly due to watching "NFL Crunch Course" on VHS many times as a kid. I still have my Long jersey I got for Xmas in the 80s. I wore #75 in H.S. and played D-line. My teammates called me Howie Time. It was great to see his son play for my team the Bears, and also wear #75.

DE were always my favorite to watch, Deacon Jones & Carl Eller in the old days put on clinics. Howie was a pretty complete player & another fun one to watch. He took no crap!

In the 1980s, Howie and his family lived up the street from me. They lived on North Juanita in a Spanish-style house, and I lived in a condo on the Esplanade. I remember seeing his oldest son when he was a blond-haired curly-headed toddler. My girlfriend at the time lived just a few houses from the Longs in Redondo Beach CA.

One thing I love about this show is that they are able to go and find the person that these guys used to be as players. We never know what Howie Long or Terry Bradshaw were like just in the Locker Room or wherever, but here on Edelman's couch, we get a peek at those guys.

My old man was in attendance when Alzado boxed Ali. I was in attendance when the Raiders won 18. I was 13 years old.

Say what you want about roids and Alzado, he was perfect for the Raiders. He was an enforcer and scared many an opponent.

And he never had to admit it. He did it for the kids. Don't be like me. Very noble. More hero then villain in that aspect

I heard that Jim Brown wanted to spare Ali in his prime. Ali said something like being a great athlete doesn't translate to boxing. Eventually they got in a ring to spare and Ali just abused Brown and Brown said something like okay I get it now.

Don't ever wrestle a wrestler & don't ever box a real boxer. Ali crowned alot in the ring he was a showman but when he got serious look out!

I liked Lyle talking about Rich "Tombstone" Jackson" when Lyle was a rookie Bronco. Lets say he had the utmost respect for Tombstone..

Alzado looked decent against Ali, Ali obviously toyed with him but still..I just rewarched the '85 AFC Div Raiders v Patriots bc I wrnt on a Madden/Summerall binge & Merlin & Dick were eh so i never watched. Long is freakin EVERYWHERE i always thought the Raiders wouldve given the '85 Bears a problem. Wilson was kind of terrible but Marcus & Christianson were such beasts they could give any team problems. Great seeing Hog Hannah vs Howie & Alzado too

There was another big difference between Alzado and Long. There's a reason one is rich, successful and healthy. Although I was no fan of Lyle Alzado--to put it mildly--I respected him as a worthy adversary for my Steelers.

I heard a story from a former journeyman NFL player who said he saw Howie, Alzado, and Randy White sitting together at a bar/restaurant in the 80's. He said to himself these are the 3 baddest asses in the NFL. He said Howie was confidently tough. Alzado was just crazy tough, and White had eyes of death that you knew could kick your ass.
