I met Lyle Alzado at a 7-11 in Venice Beach, California. It was around 4am. he was on his way to work out, nicest guy, we had at least a 10 minute conversation, ran into him 2 or 3 times after that, he remembered my name, had another conversation, just great dude.

I lived in Hermosa Beach, worked at The Seasprite Motel. I lived there. I met Lyle on the beach. He was dying slowly. We hung out several times just yappin'. Really nice dude. Then one day he said I probably wouldn't see him around any more. Shook my hand and said thanks man. Never saw him again.

Never forget what he did in the 1980 AFC Championship game against you guys. Ted Hendricks told Jim if you give the ball back to Fouts we can stop him. The Score was 27-34 at that point. Jim Plunkett led the Raiders on a textbook 7 minute game killing drive.

I remember sensing doom when Cleveland threw that last minute pick in the end zone, setting up another showdown with the Raiders. It was confirmed when Chester took a deflected pass and outran our entire miserably slow secondary for a TD on the opening drive. Knew then it was going to be an uphill battle

Broncos fan here. I love hearing about the old Raiders. Yes, we hated those Raiders teams, but we damn sure respected them. The 83 Raiders had to be their best team ever. I didn't watch the 76 Raiders, so I'm assuming. It's hard to believe the 76 team could be better than the 83 team. Great clip. Thanks for sharing.

The NFL’s grudge against the Raiders runs deep. Branch was inducted in 2022 after he was no longer with us, they will probably do that with Jim Plunkett who led the Raiders to two Superbowls.

Cedric Hardman (RIP)went to the same gym as I years ago. Being a diehard Raider fan since the early 1970s, I have a Raider tattoo on my arm. We'd say hello in passing, until one day he said "Hey man, I like that tattoo". I says thanks, Cedric, he says "you know who i am?" I says, "you can kiss the baby". He laughed, said "I haven't heard that in 20 years.

Cliff Branch had BIG ups. Saw him at a charity basketball game in Sacramento. Stabler, Branch, Tatum and a couple other guys I forget, maybe the corners. Stabler had a beer and a cigarette before, very cool guy. Cliff Branch was ridiculously athletic, almost like watching a cartoon

After the Raiders traded Gruden to lose to him in the SB Al Davis lost it. His stubbornness lost us the SB and drafted J. Russell. When he brought out the projector To butcher Lane kiffin I knew Raiders were done. When he passed he left it to his Son and Mark Davis is as clueless as they come, but has the same stubbornness and lack of patience.

I love Plunkett, he should be in the HOF, but no one was every going to compare him to Elway or Marino. But Jim proved you need a good Quarterback on a great team. To many bad teams draft a young Qb and then destroy him. Look at Sam Darnold with the Vikings, he is like Plunkett 2.0. This is why the Raiders should Trade the #1 pick for a lot of picks.

​@@piscatorial5666don't be cute. Everyone alive then, except Washington fans, knew that the 49ers had them on the ropes and were beating them like a drum at the end of the NFCCG. Washington's defense was completely spent. All the 49ers had to do is stop them and get the ball back which they did twice except the refs were told to let Washington keep the ball so not one but two phantom penaties on their last poccession to enable them to kick the winning field goal and run the clock down to leave no time left. The 49ers would have destroyed the Raiders in that SB with the momentum from that phenomenal comeback I have absolutely no doubt about. That same team the next season in 1984 came within' a holding call(again a highly controversial call just like those in the Championship game)of going undefeated. That's when all doubt was removed for any fan then that the NFL plays favorites. But I'm glad the Raiders beat Washington, the most overrated team of the '80s.

How many good QBs did Davis draft? How many #1 picks in the 80s to 2011 live up to their billing? How many coaches did he run through? He traded away the best coach he had had since Tom Flores. He drafted a KICKER in the first round. He paid Javon Walker 12 mil. Yes, the same Javon Walker who never suited up once. Not only did he draft Jamarcus Russell, in doing so he passed on Calvin Johnson. He hired Joe Bugel. He hired Art Shell in 2006 (who hired Tom Walsh to be OC. Tom Walsh hadn't coached at any level in YEARS). He relegated Marcus Allen to fullback. He moved the team TWICE (now junior has moved the team again). Without Madden, Flores, Gruden, and Ron Wolf, the Raiders would be absolutely irrelevant. Al was a narcissist obsessed with not just football, but with making the team in his image. Well...he eventually succeeded, and here we are: in a town outside of CA that doesn't give a sht about the team, in an enclosed stadium that has no tailgating and no Black Hole, a stadium few can afford to go to; the crowd is regularly filled with 40-60% fans of the opposing team; the sports media market is in the bottom 20s (the Bay is in the top 5 or 6). Vegas is for tourists. Oakland is for residents. Raider games used to be played every week in San Joaquin Valley markets (from Sacramento to Bakersfield). Not anymore. It's all Niners, Chargers, and Rams. The Raiders will continue to be the doormat of the NFL so long as they're in Vegas. This is the 5th year in Vegas. The win-loss record is pathetic. Clearly, having a new stadium doesn't equate to wins. But what does Mark care? He's wealthier now than ever. The Raiders were always grit&grime, not glitz&glam. Remember: the Autumn Wind blusters in from sea, not from the desert. R.I.P. the real Raiders.

How can anyone listen to what this man said in the very beginning of the video about the Patriots being in Boston when they drafted? Jim plunkett, I mean I understand that the man played in the league but he obviously doesn't know the history of the league like that's as bad as me saying the Rams have always been in La and St. Louis. Was their only move? Like if you don't know the history of the game and then you're going to claim to be an expert of the game, you're going to be taken less seriously. This is a bad look for Howie Long man.

Is this a bot account? Weird comment. He was technically correct. The Patriots were indeed still called the Boston Patriots when they drafted Jim Plunkett. They didn't officially change to the New England Patriots until before the start of the 1971 season.

They didn't change their name to the New England Patriots until March 22nd. So technically, Plunkett was indeed drafted by the Boston Patriots.
