I remember never really caring about football until my 6th grade year and when my dad was watching a KC game I got to see what Bo Jackson could do. That was it. For a year I was a Raider's fan. KC has Okoye back then and Okoye was a blue collar player for a blue collar state. He was more heart, more determination, and more pure beef than the 4 guys trying to tackle him on every play. I made bets with my dad on who would win those KC vs. LA games and I always ended up mowing the lawn. That's how I became a Chiefs fan. Bo was by far the greatest athlete of the last 100 years and a freak injury stole him from us. Okoye was another shining star that we just didn't get to see long enough. Those guys were amazing talents and a rare breed.

As I recall Boz (Brian Bosworth, big LB for Seattle Seahawks) was insulting Bo and making big talk for the week or two before the game. Bo essentially picked him up and carried Boz on his back 20 yards into the EZ, as I recall. [Edit: nope, that wasn't Boz, but some other LB or DB in a different game. Mighty impressive though, nonetheless!] I think that was both the end of Boz as a celebrity super-star and the end of the mullet hair style fad (that Boz had). Youngsters probably don't understand. Bo Jackson would no doubt have been one of the greatest Football players of all time if he didn't have an early career-ending hip injury in his 4th season (with the Raiders). Marcus Allen started his college career as a fullback blocking for Charles White at USC. White won the Heisman with Allen playing FB.

I just watched the Bo v Boz play and Boz went head up and got ran over. It was a big deal because both guys were coming out of college with tons of accolades. Fun times.

Howie, you're a personal hero to me. I only met you once in passing, I was with Lester and no, I don't remember where. Anyway, I raised my grandson to be a Raiders fan. He got a plaque from Lester when I introduced them. The plaque had three trading cards, Lester, Alzado and you. I'd pay for an autograph on your card if I can afford it ( my savings got blown when our daughter died and left her 8 1/2 month old son with us) but no worries. Anyway, if you have an office address or a P.O box or something I'll send it to you. Fun fact, I played DE in HS and college and taught my grandson by watching endless hours of tape on you and Lyle. Thanks for considering this.

Since I was a kid I’ve always loved howie on tv man. Yea I’m too young to have seen him play, I’ve only known him as a analyst lol. No hot takes just his own take

No man compares to Bo Jackson If you saw him play Stronger and bigger than Dion and berry Sanders . Run you over jump over you. Run circles around you. Put a future hall of fame running back on the bench that's how Great of an athlete . He was. I was actually surprised he's not active with the raiders We sure would like to see him around Raider nation more often

Yes, he was. But, pound-for-pound, the toughest player to ever put on the Silver and Black was: Jack Tatum

I'd say Marcus Allen was a better all around running back. Bo was the secret weapon.

A story from backup QB Hugh Millen. After practice in training camp there was a 6 foot high chain link fence. So the whole team was walking to the end of the field to the exit. Bo just walked up to the fence and from a standing start just jumped the fence. What athletic ability

People don’t really understand how impressive these super talented athletes really are. I played in the minor leagues with the Cardinals back in the early 90s. Brian Jordan was a teammate of mine when he was also with the Falcons. Everything he did seemed so easy it was sickening. Most sports people agree hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in professional sports…but he was better than most yet only got 1/2 the practice time of the rest of us.

And that's in the days when everybody could tackle. Dude could hit you hard and no penalty is. And the rules didn't favor the office so heavily. So their way less defensive restrictions. We got very lucky to be living in a time to watch the real football days

My son had the Hiccups for 3 months and lost about 25 lbs off a 170 lean body. It sucked big time for him. He went to the Hospital twice for treatment before it passed. 😟
