ok, because people cant seem to get this, im gonna explain it so you can hear it proper at least once, its Okami (pronounced Oh-Kah-Mee) which means both Great God and wolf, so its kind of a pun thing, and thats Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess and, as the game says numerous times, Mother of All, if ya want more info, google either Shinto or her name

Raijin Ookami Okami translates to Mother/Goddess and Amateratsu literally means Sun or Fire/Flame so: the Goddess of the Sun or Mother of Flame.

@darkestdemondragon I have no idea how it became so hugely popular but in the game, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, guards from all over the game world will spontaneously say "I used to be an adventurer like you once...then I took an arrow to the knee." I guess it became so funny because it is a quote fitting for one person to say, but it turns out that all of the guards end up saying it at some point.

Capcom was not the creator of Okami. Clover Studios was, but they were eventually bought out by Capcom, who simply remade the game for the Wii. That being said, I wish Amaterasu made it into Smash.

Okami is an honorific (it is often spelled Omikami as well), not the name of a Kami(kami can be loosely translated into god or goddess, but it isnt the same thing. a Kami is more like a powerful nature spirit or a divine essence, not an omnipotent being) in this case they give the honorific to Amaterasu. Okami translates into "Great Spirit" or "Great God" but the spirit form is more correct. Coupled with Amaterasu's name, it translates into "Great Spirit Who Shines in the Heavens"
