Ah man, so yeah what it’s been like 7 years since I first started requesting this song? Hard to believe, and even harder to believe that it finally exists. There’s a lot I *could* say but I feel maybe it’s best to leave it at a simple thank you. This was a really popular request back in 2015, it was incredibly common alongside songs like Zanza and Serpent Devouring the Horizon. I grew impatient waiting for this song and seeing it fall further and further back into obscurity, and I decided to rally some people on the Discord to make some noise for this one. Even if we basically annoyed Jonny into submission, I’m still kinda amazed it worked. Okami is a masterpiece, and replaying it for the first time in a decade for this video made me remember that. I thank you for that opportunity. I cant thank you enough for this cover, this absolutely beautiful and magnificent cover. Thank you, Jonny. I’d love to see you return to the series someday, but for now, the sun has risen! EDIT: Well hello there again. Think we both know what you're doing here.

I CANNOT EXPLAIN IN WORDS HOW GRATEFUL I AM THAT AN OKAMI COVER HAS FINALLY BEEN MADE
@okami63992 жыл бұрын
That was so phenomenal, Okami has always been my favorite video game probably of all time (and yes, it’s my go to username when I can’t think of anything else) and every rendition I hear of Rising Sun makes me smile. 8Bit, with lyrics, a metal version. It’s so nostalgic to hear, I remember being so terrified even before leaving Kamiki Village back in the day due to hearing Orachi’s roars in the distance and being like “nah I don’t like that” as a child playing the Wii versuon. Beating Yami for the first time was such an adrenaline rush and I thank you so much for bringing back these memories.
@carlyl20322 жыл бұрын
I agree with you immensely and share the same memories. Including playing the Wii version! I played this game over so many times.
@okami63992 жыл бұрын
@@carlyl2032 I’ve played the Wii version so much that the game itself has gotten a bit corrupted, not too bad but there’s a particular cutscene where you get to see the face of a character for the first time and it turns out that she’s beautiful. Except the cutscene’s a bit broken now and there’s just a grey square over where her face is supposed to be.
@NazoKG2 жыл бұрын
@@okami6399 It might just be because the Wii version is probably the buggiest version of the game out there. As a port, it's also the most limited one, they had to cut some features/content out of the Wii version for it to fit on the disc, I believe. Who knows lol, but the grey square face sounds kinda funny

I remember when I saw this first pop into my notifications 10 months ago. I... had a really scary medical emergency that left me in the hospital for weeks. I was feeling a little low that day, having been alone for a few days (fam and friends had to work and couldn't come visit which i totally understood) so I booted up my laptop and saw this video in my notifs. I remember crying when I heard it because it brought back *SO* much nostalgia. My dad took the laptop home so he could install the game so I could play it, and relive the magic so thank you Johnny. Thank you for easing my pain in one of the scariest times of my life.
@ellyjockey61642 жыл бұрын
OH MY GOD, YES. I believe Okami is a game that touched the hearts of many people I've met. And I believe that today, you touched the hearts of those who grew up with Okami. I haven't played Okami in forever (I don't have patience for long stories and got distracted, so I didn't know where to go or what to do.) However, the love for this game and its canine goddess is real. And if Amaterasu is real too (and I don't know how much of that is imagination), I like to think she'd smile upon the remix you made today. Amaterasu - or as Issun calls her, "Ammy" - would particularly be happy because the execution was on point. If someone had to make a metal remix of Amaterasu's theme, it would be good enough to play a tense, "cinematic" guitar. But playing it in your powerful style while *still* keeping a traditional Taishōgoto/Nagoya Harp (Shoutout to Zach D. again) to keep a little bit of Amaterasu in there? That's something else! I'm going to need to listen to this song more for a proper opinion, but right now, at least from this song alone, you made a good part of my past happy. Who knows if the sun goddess is happy, too? Thank you.

I didn't even realise I needed this for the morning. Really great job GaMetal! PS. can't wait for the next song, be it Metal Gear, Maverick, or just some random JRPG thingy.
I think the original song isn't purely Japanese style to begin with. It already sounded a bit metal with all the midi instruments, and a proper metal cover like this can fit right in the game if Capcom so choose.
@冬月小僧7 ай бұрын
@@FlameRat_YehLon It's difficult for me to define what metal music is, but it's possible that CAPCOM thought pure Japanese music wouldn't be accepted overseas. In any case, I'm glad that this song is getting a good impression outside of Japan!
@FlameRat_YehLon7 ай бұрын
@@冬月小僧 I'm from China and I actually played the game in Japanese. I'm just not good enough to write comment in Japanese. Anyway, I see the music working either way, authentic Japanese style or metal style, as the ending feels very sci-fi, also having a character speak English in the Japanese version probably make the use of light metal element more reasonable in such traditional looking game. Also, even though this is my opinion, it might make more sense for the English version of the game to use pure Japanese style music. The wording for the Japanese version of the game indicated that the game world isn't ancient Japan, but somewhere that look like ancient Japan, but the English version just call the game world "Nippon" and incorrectly use Yen for money. From what I can see, Capcom probably thought that oversea audiences might not know Japanese culture well enough so the English version is simplified to not cause confusion, while the original Japanese version can have a more fantasy setting and still be familiar.

As a guitarist I’m always down for some crazy fast shredding, but the genuine emotion in these guitar lines this time around was palpable, and the taishōgoto harp really gave the cover that perfect touch. The harp at the end followed by the tapping line with all the twinkling and triumphant sounds honestly have me chills. I’d definitely consider this to be one of your best covers to date, and it also reminded me how great Ōkami and its soundtrack really are.
