We searched for months for the best 270 awning to add to the trailer.
There are many out there but the Howling Moon 270 Degree Swing Awn has exceeded our expectations in Australian conditions from the Coast to the Bush.
In this video we explain why we chose it and how it performs in heavy rain and high winds.
Another feature that has become a must-have is the reflective material.
During our latest camp, the average daytime temperature was 29C and the lack of ambient heat radiating from under the awning, compared with the grey side wall, was substantial.

I bought this awning and I have had several problems right from the start. If you get one make sure you buy from a seller that will look after you when it fails. When you first unfold it, support the weight of the arm because mine dropped and buckled under its own weight. Expect the storage bag to leak and make sure you dry out between use. Watch out for rust on the locking cams inside the legs.

Really? We've had ours for 2 years and not experienced any of those issues at all! We bought direct from Howling Moon and customer service has been excellent. We always support the weight of it but even if we didn't, it definitely wouldn't come close to buckling. We camp on the coast all the time and no rust evident. We've driven in driving rain and no moisture in the bag either. The 2 issues we've had is one of the poles is a little hard to lock and the arm mechanism has put a tiny hole in the end of one of the awning sails but HM sent us a patch kit. At this stage, I haven't found an awning to match it but I will keep an eye out for the problems you've mentioned. What awning do you now have?

@@wkndcrew I still have the same one but I can't use it until I get it repaired. I gave up trying to get parts sent for it after about 15 emails to Howling Moon. With hindsight I would go with Darche or Alucab. The other issue I had was the front strap that holds it open snapped but that easy to fix.

@@Edge-dy9fh sorry to hear that - very frustrating! It sounds like we have completely different awnings, so weird. After reading your comments, I went in search of more reviews and unfortunately not many around. My awning is made from the reflective material with the new black/white logo. It's solid as, so I wonder if there was a bad batch at the factory in 2020 or a quick production run of yours before ours was released? We'll probably never know. The problem with camping products is that many smaller companies make changes on the fly, they never label a product V2 etc. For example, I had no idea we were getting the black/white logo (which I prefer over the original). I also thought mine would come with the tie down straps but I have no issue with the integrated guy ropes. Like yourself, we were looking at the AluCab Shadow Awning but it just looks flawed from an engineering point of view + with that in mind, far too expensive. Main issues; only one pole and no guy rope points for guttering - I'm not buying the marketing at all, same with the 30 second awning. The wind that we've camped in, no way would 1 pole hold up. Secondly, the cut-out logo in each arm appears to be a weak point according to reviews and lastly, I really don't love the idea of using the tie-down straps without pole support on each corner. Putting that much downwards pressure on the frame, if you were pegging out hard - nope. I found a review by Dirt Sunrise Adventures on KZbin and in the comments, he says; "On the light wind and rain, no worries. It can handle it ,but one thing we didn't do is walk off or go on a hike with it deployed since strong winds could come up." I'd be pursuing HM if I was you, it's really disappointing when you've spent the $$$. My next choice would be the Supapeg Outbound Rapid 4 wing Awning - it has integrated poles, gutter points for guy ropes and Aussie made. We didn't choose it because of the plastic components which could be a failure point. Saying that, I'd feel comfortable choosing it on another set-up, say on our ute.

When it was in the rain it looked like it had water drops on the inside the roof when you were filming is that true?? Hard to see

Just wondering, is this the ‘grey’ or ‘reflective’ canvas material option? Cheers
