Hello - thank you for making these videos! I am a fellow All Roada/iKamper but have a question. I just have mine mounted on the lid bars but am considering getting the trailer chassis mounted system for my iKaamper and a 270 degree awning. Just a question, I have to park in an apartment car park with a max entry height of 2.1m - would your setup go under 2.1m? Thank you, Dion

Hey there! Since starting the channel I have had to revisit how we camp entirely. We sold the Pod Trailer and although I still have the brand new EverShower I will never use it. The reason is, I have very long hair and just find recirculating water is not the nicest or most efficient way of washing. You also have to dry everything, peg it out, watch it in the wind and it's quite disorienting standing inside - both James and I get dizzy! The space is pretty tight. Because I won't be doing an Evershower video for quite some time, I'll write here how I would get completely clean off grid. It's taken me years to figure out! I have tried this method and it's the best. I think I watched every camp shower video on KZbin and then started wondering about how people get clean in countries where fresh water is scarce, think Africa or India, for example. PLEASE > Tag or credit me if sharing this as it's 100% my idea :) METHOD IF USING THE EVERSHOWER > if you still REALLY want to buy the Evershower, the way I would stop the shampoo and conditioner from going through the pump (soap should be fine but rinse clean water through EverShower after use - see, it's a bit of a pain in the ass)....Start your shower by standing underneath and recirculating the water. While shower is running, soap up and shampoo hair, keep water recirculating to get most of the soap and shampoo off but of course the water will now feel quite dirty on your skin. Then turn the shower off completely and use the "6L drinks cooler RINSE method" that I detail below....read on. METHOD NOT USING THE EVERSHOWER > The following method uses about 3 litres of boiling water, 6 litres of cold water. So this is an extremely water efficient way to shower when you consider that most hand-held or rechargeable lithium camp showers use about 3L - 6L per minute!! It also doesn't cost much and uses minimal gear. GEAR YOU WILL NEED > - A $22 6L drinks esky from BigW (Google Arctic Zone Pro Hardbody Moulded Cooler 6L - Grey) - A cup and a bowl (just use clean ones from your camp kitchen) - A privacy tent - A large kettle with the ability to boil at least 3L (preferably more if you want to be warmer). A whistling kettle is awesome as you can step away, cook dinner, stoke the fire so you don't have to wait! - Some way of measuring out the water - you can use an empty 1L drink bottle. - The largest black Flexi tub from Bunnings. We take one anyway with all our beach stuff. NOTE > If you find this method too cold, simply buy a larger kettle and and boil more water, even a larger drinks cooler if required, adjust your amounts to suit. 1. Set-up your privacy tent, organise your toiletries and towel. 2. Fill your black Flexi tub in the morning with 3 litres of cold water and leave out in the sun all day. 3. When ready to shower, boil your 3L of water, get your fresh cold water ready. 4. While waiting for the water to boil, pour 3 litres of cold water into your drinks cooler. 5. Grab a clean bowl from the camp kitchen and put it into your Flexi tub. Also grab a cup but that will be for later. 5. Pour half boiling water into the drinks cooler, close lid to keep warm. 6. Pour the other half of the boiling water into the Flexi tub, jump in! Be quick as the water will cool down fast. 7. Soap up your entire body and shampoo your hair thoroughly. Crouch down in the tub if you're a bit chilly! 8. Use the bowl to scoop water from the tub and pour directly over yourself to rinse. The water in tub will now be quite soapy. 9. Grab your cup, open the cooler and use a few scoops to completely rinse your body and hair. Close lid of cooler quickly. 10. Condition your hair. Open cooler and use the cup to scoop the remaining water over yourself. YOU WILL BE SO CLEAN!! No recirculating required. Rinse the tub when done. This method is amazing and I hope to do a video to demonstrate it. If you do one, please tag me! Happy [CLEAN] camping, Kat

Hi Katt, this just popped up on my YT feed and I thought of you. Hope renovating is going well? You may not see this but …. If you get back to camping, would you mount a RTT on the frame again, or down lower, on the bars? What other changes would you make if starting again? I’m still saving for a RTT and looking at best options.
@wkndcrew
@wkndcrew Жыл бұрын
Hey mate sorry for the delayed reply! I’d mount the RTT directly on the Stockman bars next time around. Don’t forget the lid upgrade to accommodate this. The main reason would be cost, weight and drag of the overhead chassis rack. And I think aesthetically it would look better not having it. But also height - climbing AND deploying the ladder is a bit of a pain in the arse. The morning dew makes the ladder slippery and getting bedding in and out is a bit annoying. Ok other changes; the awning. Absolutely love the Howling Moon but I prefer supporting Aussie and really impressed with Supapeg’s freestanding awning. Had a chat to their design engineer and knows his stuff. Maybe I’d get Cruisemaster or airbag suspension just because why not?! But I’d also get a smaller hard-shell RTT (2p) and a separate small ground tent. Reason? I missed being able to get changed standing up, a play space for Macsen AND somewhere to store the bags. And we have added a dog so that further complicates using an RTT. We used the back of the ute for gear/clothing bags and all slept up in the iKamper which sounds perfect in theory but the reality is not that easy. You’re constantly outside and if windy/raining or needing a quick change of clothes it’s annoying. Especially with a child. I’d add a Thule bike rack in front of the toolbox because it’s easier to get everything done at the same time in the factory in Melbourne. I’d also definitely get a Cruisemaster DO35 coupling for safer off-road manoeuvring. Other than that, I’d keep the kitchen, extra tap points, long draw bar, gas cylinder and jerry holders. I would definitely NOT get the water tank. Unless showering or off-roading remote, completely unnecessary $$$. We don’t even use a 20L jerry for 3 night’s washing up. A fridge slide and Engel would also be very nice next to the kitchen. I worked out that one of Stockman’s new ‘ute slides’ would actually fit perfectly length-wise in the pod. Again it’s easier to install all at once in the factory rather than retrofit. Hope that helps! 👍

Yes I understand that but when specifically confirming mattress dimensions with Bushbuck, they gave me the internal measurements. I was VERY clear with them as James is 6ft. @@neamo111 true. Unfortunately I think many consumers (not me) could assume incorrectly that the dimensions given are indicative of the mattress size or at least close to. It’s a problem with RTT’s in general - I’ve found discrepancies in measurements a few times. When you’re charging in excess of $4k for a tent, they need to get it right and be clear. Even the 23Zero rep at the show gave me the wrong mattress measurements so I had to edit my video description which I hope people read!

I take both my little ones 3yo & 5yo camping by myself, looked at similar equipment to you (air tents and family RTTs). Went with updated Darche AT-4 early last year, no issues whatsoever, really well made, used in some shocking conditions too. Have since moved (2m wide soft shell) and have the air tent as back-up. The Hannibal RTT is more work to set-up and not as sleek as hard shell options but the 2m x 2.4m floorspace with fully covered entry (fly extends 1m or so beyond ladder) and volume/ space inside with pitched roof makes it worthwhile. Aussie made wax converters canvas is breathable and blocks out light completely, weighs around 90kgs, should outlast my kids' interest in camping with their dad. 😳😂

Great Video 👌. You guys thought about running a fridge and 12v set up?
@wkndcrew
@wkndcrew 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response! Thank you and yes I have thought about it A LOT. Here's a summary on why we don't have one... I'm a big fan of the basic Enerdrive 4WD Canopy system OR Bluetti / iTechworld / Nomad PDU portable power stations BUT once you factor in the cost of these units at around $2000+ AND then a 50L fridge at around $1800 you're looking at no change from almost $4000. Then add in solar panels, fridge slide so let's say $5000+. Which is fine if you can justify the cost because you use it for work or go camping regularly. BUT then I also consider the extra weight of a full fridge, so I must permanently install a fridge slide in the trailer, which also adds weight and takes up unnecessary room. Plus then prevents me from packing the trailer a certain way, due to the slide taking up valuable space. We're sitting at around 650kg unbraked (fully loaded) so we'd be close to the upper unbraked limit too if I included this set-up. AND then because these systems alone will only run a fridge for around 3 days (4 if you're lucky) you must add solar if you're off-grid for longer. And what if it's cloudy or raining most of that time?! THEN I also need to mount or stow solar panels somewhere, plus I need to maintain/store (temp sensitive) and 'prepare' this system before I go by charging it, along with all my other rechargeable items! NOW my last issue with this set-up is this > How much food can you actually fit in a 40 - 50L fridge for a family? 3-4 days worth? So how off-grid can you really go if you need to restock at day 4? If you do set up your solar panels remotely for more than a week, you might want to buy a larger 60L+ sized fridge (more $$$) OR use a vacuum sealer to increase room (more $$$) and supplement with canned, dry or freeze-dried food OR fish/hunt. This all makes sense cost-wise if that's how you intend to use it. But we're family campers and because of this research, as much as I love a 12 Volt camping fridge (and we've had one), I went back to the ease of a cooler. But not just any cooler - the Otterbox Venture 45, which boasts ice retention for 14 days!! BUT let's assume that's wildly optimistic, I'm confident that I'm going to at least get 7 days retention in warm weather. I can grab a spare bag of ice from even the most remote servo, it's easy to carry full, no maintenance, no extra weight to use more fuel, no fridge slide / solar panels / or sunshine required and even has an upper tray inside so don't have to fish through wet ice with bare hands. I can be off-grid for a week or more, in any conditions by supplementing my fresh food and it costs all of $400. On a side note lithium will greatly improve over the next couple of years, portable units will get smaller and offer power for longer. I will reconsider a fridge in the next year or so. Just sayin' ;)

@wkndcrew
@wkndcrew 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there Michael, doing a full run down video is an great idea.; I'll try and get one up soon. The model I have is the ALL-ROADA. It is definitely time for me to do a 2 year review but we may be about to change some of our mods on the Pod. FYI - Stockman is the original company and I believe the product quality is far superior to the other new 'competitor'. It's a good idea to have a look at both in real life to compare. PROS - Everything lol but I'm biased. - No seriously, the main advantages the Pod has, to any other camper trailer on the market, is the light weight. You don't need to upgrade the brakes on your tow vehicle, the trailer is also unbraked. We think ours fully loaded weighs around 650kg - ridiculously light. And low weight = minimal increase in fuel consumption. - It's hand-built exceptionally well in Melbourne from high quality steel, Aussie invention and design. Excellent customer service. - Strong components and super easy to tow and reverse. - Small so you can pretty much take it anywhere, unlike a caravan. - Flexibility to modify the design and add-ons; we're up to our 3rd set-up! - Serious off-road capability especially if you purchase the EXTREME model. CONS - The only con so far is that there is a gap between where the end of the awning attaches and the trailer, so that when we pull out our Stockman kitchen it can be rained on. But it's $13+k ! Not $80k for a caravan for example. We're weekend warriors so have taken it off-grid bush camping, beach camping, Big 4's and private property. It will go anywhere. If you want up-to-date information join the Stockman Pod Trailer Community FB page here > facebook.com/groups/1508077982668525 Happy camping! Cheers, Kat

I bought this awning and I have had several problems right from the start. If you get one make sure you buy from a seller that will look after you when it fails. When you first unfold it, support the weight of the arm because mine dropped and buckled under its own weight. Expect the storage bag to leak and make sure you dry out between use. Watch out for rust on the locking cams inside the legs.
@wkndcrew
@wkndcrew 2 жыл бұрын
Really? We've had ours for 2 years and not experienced any of those issues at all! We bought direct from Howling Moon and customer service has been excellent. We always support the weight of it but even if we didn't, it definitely wouldn't come close to buckling. We camp on the coast all the time and no rust evident. We've driven in driving rain and no moisture in the bag either. The 2 issues we've had is one of the poles is a little hard to lock and the arm mechanism has put a tiny hole in the end of one of the awning sails but HM sent us a patch kit. At this stage, I haven't found an awning to match it but I will keep an eye out for the problems you've mentioned. What awning do you now have?
@Edge-dy9fh
@Edge-dy9fh 2 жыл бұрын
@@wkndcrew I still have the same one but I can't use it until I get it repaired. I gave up trying to get parts sent for it after about 15 emails to Howling Moon. With hindsight I would go with Darche or Alucab. The other issue I had was the front strap that holds it open snapped but that easy to fix.
@wkndcrew
@wkndcrew 2 жыл бұрын
@@Edge-dy9fh sorry to hear that - very frustrating! It sounds like we have completely different awnings, so weird. After reading your comments, I went in search of more reviews and unfortunately not many around. My awning is made from the reflective material with the new black/white logo. It's solid as, so I wonder if there was a bad batch at the factory in 2020 or a quick production run of yours before ours was released? We'll probably never know. The problem with camping products is that many smaller companies make changes on the fly, they never label a product V2 etc. For example, I had no idea we were getting the black/white logo (which I prefer over the original). I also thought mine would come with the tie down straps but I have no issue with the integrated guy ropes. Like yourself, we were looking at the AluCab Shadow Awning but it just looks flawed from an engineering point of view + with that in mind, far too expensive. Main issues; only one pole and no guy rope points for guttering - I'm not buying the marketing at all, same with the 30 second awning. The wind that we've camped in, no way would 1 pole hold up. Secondly, the cut-out logo in each arm appears to be a weak point according to reviews and lastly, I really don't love the idea of using the tie-down straps without pole support on each corner. Putting that much downwards pressure on the frame, if you were pegging out hard - nope. I found a review by Dirt Sunrise Adventures on KZbin and in the comments, he says; "On the light wind and rain, no worries. It can handle it ,but one thing we didn't do is walk off or go on a hike with it deployed since strong winds could come up." I'd be pursuing HM if I was you, it's really disappointing when you've spent the $$$. My next choice would be the Supapeg Outbound Rapid 4 wing Awning - it has integrated poles, gutter points for guy ropes and Aussie made. We didn't choose it because of the plastic components which could be a failure point. Saying that, I'd feel comfortable choosing it on another set-up, say on our ute.
