Introduction to Redshift - Part 2: Understanding Node Materials
Join Maxon Trainer Elly Wade as she guides you through learning Redshift inside of Cinema 4D right from the beginning. Throughout this four-part workshop Elly will be diving into a wide range of techniques from understanding node materials, to creating lights and camera effects and even jumping into some of the essential render settings for that perfect finished look.
Get comfortable in Redshift in just 4 weeks. These 2-hour sessions are designed for artists with little to no experience in Redshift and will be run inside of Cinema 4D 25. Attendees are invited to follow along with the techniques shown throughout the session, however they are also recorded and available to re-watch in your own time.

Thanks for that perfect tutorial. I have two little questions. Could you, please, clarify: 1) If there any opportunities for separate dimensions by axis when we plugged up "constant" node to scale/rotation/position? 2) As i understood, when we use normal and bump or a few bumps/normals textures in one material we should use "bump blender" node. But if it's correct, it turns out like we blend them and decrease their weight value at the end at a half, cause, for example,now we see 50% normal texture and 50% bump texture. So, is it mean that in that case we need multiply default values of weight in both textures (before we plugged in "bump blender" node) at least by twice?

I am finding YOUR tutorials to be very informative. You are a great trainer. Maybe you can communicate this, I'd really like to have a deep dive into the ramp node. You teased that you could spend 30 minutes on it. I'm guessing I only know a small percentage of what it can do, and I'd love to learn as much as possible.

A member of my team found the answer to my question in a forum post. "It (C4D Shader) doesn't exist (in the R26 node editor) because that node is just a "texture baker" that bakes out the nodes for other engines if your not using the Standard Surface…but you can just reference it in from Xpresso into the new nodes system.”

You can save assets to a custom database and here's a quick tip on how to do that kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4G6i2x3f5tla7M - It's recorded in 24 but the functionality is the same. Hope this helps!

Hey, yes you can work in either the RS Shader Graph or in C4Ds Node Editor, here's a short webinar snippet on some of the differences kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2LVgnWXe9aogpI - For this intro course we're learning in the RS shader graph

@@MaxonTrainingTeam ahh ok so not all the nodes are in there. That’s a bit strange because it was over a year since they teased it..So seems like half a job imo. I only just moved over from Octane and I really miss the node editor. What really annoys me about RS is that your INPUTs are not there to begin with, you have to create the ports for everything. But then, I’m sort of trying to see past the less user-friendly nodes as there’s so many more benefits you gain with RS over Octane! That’s coming from a long time Octane user.

Hey Iryna, you can switch this back by going to Edit > Preferences then find Redshift under the Renderer drop down, and turn off 'Node Materials for Presets'. Now when you double click it'll create a Shader Graph material for you. Hope this helps, Elly

Has there been a big change in the graph editor since this video? The old one doesn't seem to work at all and the new one looks completely different. And now there is a RS Material and a RS Standard Material. Or is it just me?

Hey, you're right, this workshop was run prior to Redshift 3.5 which came with a new Standard Material and it also uses the Redshift Shader Graph. Here's a useful video on the C4D Node Editor and the new Standard Material in Redshift; beta.cineversity.com/en/series/getting-started-with-redshift?tutorial=getting-started-with-redshift-part-3-redshift-materials - Hope this helps
@yusef4d

The issue people are having with following along, with the new program updates, is that the REDSHIFT MATERIAL or STANDARD material opens up the NODE EDITOR, and what we need to follow this tutorial along exactly is the REDSHIFT GRAPH EDITOR. The only way I found to get the REDSHIFT GRAPH EDITOR is by starting with a different material found here: REDSHIFT / MATERIALS / MATERIAL / C4D MATERIAL. From there you can delete everything in the graph editor except the "RS MATERIAL" and "OUTPUT" and you should be able to follow Elly along exactly.
