Took my 3yr old at the time, 2008 Scion xB, to the dealer for their “free” oil change coupon they sent me. Picking up my keys they said my water pump was broken and causing a leak, $500 repair, because the warranty had just run out. I said ok I’ll have to come back next week to get the work done. So I checked the coolant fluid and driveway for leaks for the next few days nothing, couple weeks went by nothing. Took it to the local garage and they checked out the pump for $90 labor, they said nothing is wrong. A year later I took the car in to the same dealer due to an unrelated recall. Again on my way out they said, water pump is broken and leaking. Again I said I’ll come back later, never did. Another year later another recall and back to the dealer I went; same thing, water pump is broken, leaking. Mind you, this car had been driven nearly 30,000 miles city and highway miles in the coldest of winters and hottest of summers since the dealer claimed the water pump was broken. Again I drive away, a few days later I noticed leaking under the car. I took it to a reputable mechanic recommended to me and they said, the leak is coming from the hose connector to the gasket head. I looked at and it appeared to have been wiggled out loose because the connector appeared bent. They said we can properly reconnect and glue the hose back on for $25 with a special heat resistant glue. It will take a couple hours time mainly for cooling down the car and letting the glue dry. I’ve had this same car for 13 years now, not a single mechanical breakdown. Only normal wear and tear repairs for a car with 200,000 miles. It still runs like it’s new. Don’t buy that crap pitch from dealers if they try that on you with a Japanese car. If you didn’t have an issue when you arrived at the dealer, you didn’t have one.

I bought a new 2008 xB in May 2008. Last week, it turned 100K. About 7 years ago, I brought it in for an oil change (I've done EVERY oil change, save for one, at the purchasing dealer), which I have done frequently (I live in MN and the temperature changes can be extreme). On this particular visit, a service 'advisor' comes into the customer lounge and informs me I have a coolant leak that can be 'fixed' for around $800. I found this odd because the coolant level indicated 'FULL' on the coolant reservoir, and I park the car inside - in the same place all the time - and NEVER noticed any coolant beneath the car. Of course, I declined. While I should now have my coolant system flushed, the coolant level, 7 years later, still indicates - FULL. P.S. in subsequent visits, I've noticed the young 'advisor' is no longer employed at the dealership.

Not doubting you, but find out where the water pump is and have a look at that and see if there's any blueish/greenish 'scale' building up around it which is a sign of a leak that's small enough to simple dry up from engine heat rather than drip. All Toyotas/Scions in this era had water pump gasket failures that could go on for a while before leaks show up on the ground below the parked vehicle. I'd been a customer of my local dealership for a number of years (Camrys and Tacomas), and they replaced the gasket for free even though I had 40K miles on the vehicle.

2013 here 145,000 things i have run into 1. Rough idle (note when A/C is off) Fix: throttle body builds carbon remove and clean (note not a bad idea to buy a gasket but old one Can be reused) 2. Driver side axle bearing at 120,000 are prone to hummmm. Fix: Tools (axel nut tool $11.00) (ti rod pickle fork $20.00) wheel hub (513257 part num. Generally under $100.00) time 1hr. 30min. For novice. 3. At about 100,000 to 140,000 change brake pads Other then that these are great Toasters great for a work car and yes camping. I am 6'2 with with inverter 2000 watts harbor freight mounted on wall with front seats all the way up its a medium size bed. Also tows nice too.... I hope this helps somone out LOVE MINE TO DEATH LOL

I have Xb 2014 which has 114k by far this vehicle is one of the best cars I ever had very comfortable and roomy and economical and powerful, never had any issues only thing I change was the tiers and oil, and always put good gas, very cold AC.

2013 XB with 321k miles. Replaced both CV's at 250k Factory clutch still in good shape Replaced all 4 wheels bearings at 235k Battery 3 months ago, alternator at 285k Fuel pump at 302k Still drives like new lol. Struts still good

If you are buying a used one, check the service records to see if oil has been changed regularly. I bought an oil burner… have to get rid of it

Only issue with them is oil consumption but you can de carbonize it and burn less. Rest is bulletproof

Scion xB gen2 2013, had throttle body cleaned...rough idle, now runs perfect, no other issues. I'm a fanatic about timely oil changes, and standard maintenance.

The white paint was infamous on these. I own a white 2013. About a 2.5 week process for the dealership body shop to completely repaint every single panel on the car, they gave me a loaner during that time.

i have a gen 1 xb and changed out all my bearing hubs, water pump, and my windshield oh and timing belt. thats not bad for 160k . other than that havent had any big problems and xb works fine so far.

2010 TOYOTA RUKUS Australia Same car different badge for those that don't know. I've had my car for 5 years and just hit 222222km 👌 love my car but I have always had an issue, my automatic gear box down shifts to 3rd gear every time I indicate left 👌 yep no joke. Always open for suggestions

The ticking noise from my scion brought me here. But its not ticking when I turn the steering wheel. It does it when I accelerate to 50 mph and 68 mph. No one can figure out what it is. Thank you for your video. I love my scion clearly why I'm here. The air bag mention has me alil shook. 😨

Replace the driver cv axle, more than likely getting noises from acceleration is either wheel bearing or cv axle

2008 Scion XB, is there a way to bypass the AC Compressor Pulley? My engine idles rough and or dies when the AC is turned on, I’m assuming it’s a bad AC Clutch? Do they sell AC Cluches by themselves? Anyone know a belt size to bypass the pulley?

I got tricked when i bought my 08 Scion Xb i didn't kw i was buying a salvage, Seller showed me a CLEAN title and believe him after sale erased his phone # etc but thank God its been a great car main problem motor oil burning it's like using gasoline insane fun car but don't forget add motor oil

I have a 2011 Scion xB, Was running and driving fine then one day the alarm went off and battery died now the car DOES NOT RUN!!!!!!! has no power to any of the accessories, when you turn the key the gauges illiuminate but that's it. No power locks or windows & im lost, I checked all fusses & they are all good. Do you have any idea what it might be? 😞

I have a 2009 xb and I've never replaced the water pump and it has over 214k miles but ac compressor seems to idle rough when I turn on the ac wonder if it's on a recall dealer might as well take care of it

I'm having the same issue on my 2011 Scion XB with 110K miles - rough idle/ engine shaking when AC compressor clutch engages while I have the car in idle. I'm going to clean the throttle body today to see if that takes care of it. If that does not fix it, I'll next check the front motor mount.

Same issue. AC engage = rough idle. The car now died on idle. If I gas it up, the engine is fine, once the idle gets low, with the AC On, the engine fails. Any way to bypass the AC Pulley? With a shorter serpentine belt?

I have a 2011 2.4l w 170k miles it burns oil, rear bearings just replaced, has a mis-fire problem occasionally, paint is worn on the roof a bit. Haha great car though

On my ‘12 xb, Toyota fixed the peeling paint, air bag deflator, and the oil burning pistons for free! Since then my car has been driving problem free

Yeah, If u change out the oil, this car should just run, run, run. I bought my 2008 scion xb new. In almost 15 years, I've only had to replace tires, brakes, & oil. These things just go and continue to go.

I don't know but there's a ratoling on the right side sounds like something loose and my ac went out I just changed the seal gasket if ignition coil packs and sparkplugs she runs fine but it's hot out and the compressor is not turning on soon I got to do the tork converter any ideas a out the ac thing???????

Toyota may have a recall on those piston rings. You should contact your local Toyota dealership. I want to say 2011 was the last year that had the problem, and that the 2012s don't have the problem, but I'm not certain.

@@stevechance150 2012 still has the problem. 10yr or 150,000 miles is what Toyota offers as a warranty for the oil consumption.

2011 150000 oil,filter,every 5000,front and rear brakes at 65 and 140000 plugs at 100000 and today at 150000 left axle seal and manual tran fluid change for the second time have not changed air filter looks like new have changed cabin filter Great Machine!!! Really the only thing we dont like about the XB is the engine turns 3000 rpm at 70 mph in 5th gear. I wonder if a 6 speed out of a TC would work? I own 3 of these things only one manual Im looking for another.😊
