I had an '09 Matrix XR with the 2.4L Oil Burner. When it was newer I did a full exhaust system for (equal length 4-1 headers, high flow cat, 2.5" tubing, flowmaster 80 series), it was great fun, and it started burning oil around 110,000km. Funny thing though was when I returned the exhaust to stock with OEM parts when I was getting ready to sell it, that seemed to solve it. I would put it through the same driving as normal and same situations that would cause it to spit out a big blue cloud with the custom exhaust, but no matter what I did I there would be no cloud coming out.

My Scion IQ is a fantastic car! Has a CVT but I drive it easy. With fuel at $8.50 a gallon here in Canada probably the best decision I've ever made in a vehicle. My fuel mileage in cold weather gets bad but found the engine wasn't warming up fast enough so I simply cover the front grille up with Nascar tape. The engine heats up quickly and fuel economy goes back to normal.

Same thing is going on in my 09 accord 2.4. Honda didn't build the piston rings correctly and is a notorious issue in the 08, 09, 10 models. So much so there was a class action lawsuit. Im always monitoring it. At this point with cars so expensive now I might as well get it fixed after I finish paying it off. Probably cheaper than buying another car and getting stuck with another note

Thanks Scotty. My '08 XB was up to burning about 2-3 quarts between oil changes. I ran Liqui Moly Engine Flush about a year ago, which freed up my piston rings (I’m sure there was some crystallized sludge that kept the rings from doing their job). I ran the product for 30 mins (a little longer than they recommended) then drained and added fresh oil. Doesn't burn anymore, I mean nothing, like brand new. These engines are for the most part bullet proof, just need a little TLC to keep them going. I'm at 204K and still going strong 😊 Thanks again for what you do!

You gotta replace spark plugs more often but overall the oil burning is overblown. Thanks for this video. Hopefully prices of this car will drop and more people will have a great car for super cheap. Oh our xB now has a leaking head gasket and guess what? It still runs! 15 years and 260,000 miles is pretty good for a car you should never buy.

Darn. This makes sense. I have a RAV4 with this engine and since I've bought it, it has been burning oil every 1500-1700 miles or so. Smh. I took it Toyota and they said they would charge me to fix it. I couldn't afford it so I'm just living with it. I tried using Lucas oil. It pretty much worked. Then I tried a heavier weight oil, that also worked. I'm not sure what kind of damage I'm doing to my engine but it isn't burning oil lol. I will probably sell it in the future anyways.

Now yes u are not a fan of lifting vehicles because it messes up the suspension’s geometry, but with a comparison to rav4 that shares the same platform and have some spacers to correct the geometry, they are still excellent vehicles and handles much better. I’d be glad to show u my built and show the rest of the people, of what these lifted xB can really do.
