[HOWTO] Turn your USB Printer into a Wireless Printer! 2019

In this video, we use a Raspberry Pi to turn a normal USB printer into a wireless printer that can print over WiFi. You can also print from your smartphone using the CUPS Printing app.

This tutorial left out the part where you have to add the pi user to SystemGroup inside of the cups file config in order to not get forbidden anytime you try to add a printer. Also the part where the printer shows up on the network tab in the explorer requires more setup. Important pieces are missing

I want an Apple Pie. Not too fond of Raspberries in my pie. Apple pies are so yummy. BTW, what does all this have to do with computers and printers? Oh I get it, you have a 3D printer and can make as many pies from just on pie. Wow, simply genius. Now I can buy 1 apple pie, and print out as many pies as I want on my 3D printer; why didn't that occur to me. Next thing is that I'll borrow my friends Rolls Royce Phantom, and print it out. Excellent, you just made my boring life a lot more worth it!!!!

You dont need samba anymore and just use avahi instead and configure cups to share printer over mdns. With that you can add printer on windows without the need of driver also androud and ios can easily discover the orinter and print stuff directly from there.

Just a caveat - only Pis with Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections may be used. By default, the Pi Zero does not have internet and requires an adapter using one of the USB ports. The Pi Zero W has native Wi-Fi.

Can you make a new updated video for 2022 when rPi is hard to get and with price gauging happening everywhere? I would like to see a guide on repurposing a old wifi router (with USB port) to act as a wireless client of sort? Maybe using likes of DDWRT if compatible. These old routers are cheap, i think plenty in low power as well? What do you think?

The equipment we need for this. User can buy a new wireless printer. You should make connect usb printer to router to make wireless without extra equipments.

Most people want to connect a printer they have already, and that is not always a very cheap one. Think 10 color photo printers, plotters etc.

I guess there is a local network printer device available in market thats around 10$ to convert any usb printer into network printer and above that user can share printer on local network from their systems to avoid more equipment. Not everyone is tech savvy ...

Hi, this happend to me2, you can just type "sudo usermod -aG lpadmin pi" Instead of "sudo usermod -a -G Ipadmin pi" That worked for me

It should work as long as you are on the same network. Why don't you use normal usb printing in that scenario?
