my laptop overheated four times today. I was freaking out thinking it was a hardware malfunction, I just lowered the max "speed" of the processor and now it's working fine. Getting the same FPS in games anyway :)

When mine overheated i just grabbed a jug of ice cold water and poured it onto the keyboard then i flipped the laptop over and poured another jug of ice cold water onto the bottom part. Worked like magic. Its always cool now never gets hot

The memory is not right beneath the processor. It's better to decrease your power draw, you'll have longer battery life and everything involved uses less power. The easiest way is to dim your screen, turn your wifi power settings to minimum, disable the video card (if you have newer nvidia ones typically 9000series and up its tres easy.), and to throttle the cpu speed. I've never had memory 'pop' from heat, but yes the cpu could shut itself off if the fans were really, really plugged.

Same, i have an acer laptop core i3, does just the same. used to be on 70-90C all the time but i put it on "Power Save" battery mode, and its alot cooler now. try it

be careful when u buy a laptop cooling pad. some fan speed are soooo slow that u can barely feel the breeze (USB - powered). even if u connect to AC-DC, it is useless

Try this, Take out your battery, Unplug it off the Ac Adaptor, and then press and hold the "power" button for like 30 - 60 secs and then plug the battery back in and try switching it on then.. it should probably work :).. Else something related to the display is blown up in your lappy.

Its diode is supposed to melt, not explode. It's like a fuse, to protect the CPU's main silicon wafer. The diode can be replaced, but if the silicon wafer is destroyed it's cheaper to buy a whole new CPU.

I don't know if my laptop is overheating, but if I use it too much the screen just stays the way it is, it doesn't move or something, is that overheating too? Then I put it off and i can't put it on for like 15 minutes... I just ordered a laptop cooler..

Just take out ur battery while doing things keep it the charger...and when u need to leave or what u call it ''' on the go'' pop that fat battery back in the laptop. This one help cool down ur laptop too.

My laptop has this quarter inch "heel" to allow better ventilation. It wasn't enough, so I propped it up with a bottle of water. It helped with the ventilation, but dang, it increased the incline.

Hmmm.... to me it happens quite often even when i play a flash game. Seems like it goes in some loop and just overheats. About your problem maybe you have too high settings?

@thecurioussoul88 RAM is the amount of virtual memory it helps to keep your pc running fast 8gb of RAM is quite good for a modern pc espeialy if its ddr3 the 1333 mhz is the RAM speed 1333mhtz its very good for ddr3 memory hope this helped

I have something like that cooling unit. But mine only has two fans one on the right and left. It works pretty well but the power jack in the back is broken so you have to move the power cord around alot. It is a targus and that is a known problem. I plan to get a better one.

On my newly bought laptop, when playing at home without a battery inserted, after around 3 hours of Skyrim the CPU was at about 62-68 degrees Celsius. I was wondering if that was normal or it was overheated? BTW, I use an elevated laptop stand to allow air flowing under... Should I be more careful?

My Acer used to get extremley hot after playing Sims 3 or KZbin for hours... o_o , However, I got this Dust Remover can and I sprayed it in the Heat filter/fan, and all this dust came out. So try this, everyone maybe you'll save yourself some burning your bed sheets ;-)

SOMEONE PLS REPLY My Pavilion dm4 laptop never overheats or lags WHEN IT IS ON THIS DESK IN MY ROOM, even when playing games, If placed on any other surface it quickly overheats. The desk is laminated with a plastic finish, plastic is an insulator, it should reflect and overheat the computer but it doesn't. i even placed the computer on smooth granite in a side by side test while playing Minecraft and it lagged out and overheated on the granite not and my laminated desk. ANSWERS?

Nobody follows these steps because nobody really cares about their laptops overheating. Either way, the new MacBooks (Late 2009/Mid 2010) only get hot in the back, so they're cold on your lap, for the most part.

The reason its hot is because most human does not use power efficiently, not all but mostly. While in different view, 'big' company continue to provide this new product every year, synchronize to new Operating System or Software in the market. That is why we have warranty provide by such company reminder as due date. My concern is the waste contribute from this electronic/chips and restore a good energy from it.
