I'm thankful this video exists. But all that just to replace spark plugs? Someone either needs to get fired for being anti-consumer, or a raise for forcing consumers into expensive dealerships for what should be simple tasks.

This has nothing to do with the time, era. Many cars manufactured in 2019 have easy to access plugs. But since you're bringing up the past, let me join in! Remember the good ol' days when we had to put chalk on the timing belt to adjust the timing and we had to adjust and clean complex carburetors? Me too

Thank you Brian for the excellent video. I have a Mazda MVP 2005 exactly like this one, but after changing all spark plugs and new coils I have another problem, the engine knocks and the knock goes faster with acceleration and loses power on idle along with a crying noise like a belt slipping and the engine shuts down. I have checked the oil level and it is good. I noticed there is a leak coming from somewhere from the engine. Do you have a video explaining this kind of situation and what the solution would be for it ? thank you.
@HowtoAutomotive6 ай бұрын
I would recommend taking the belts off. And start the car for about a minute. If the noise goes away it one of the pulleys like the water pump or alternator. If the noise is still there with the belt off then it in the engine.

I have the same situation ony 2004. I got a skip on cylinder 3 so called. I know it can be a coil or that one plug.if you there it better to fix them all. Like surgery. What would be a decent cost for this motor for parts? After market vs factory ? Labor rates? How long should it take to do?

I really like this car. I've had mine for 17 years, a 2000, and it still running with no major problems but it's got a lot of rust. I wish I could restore it. Instead, I just bought a MPV 2003 last week with 65,000 original miles on it for $7,000. The price includes shipping from one state to another. I bought it because while this car is a mini van, it's the only minivan in which its length is about a foot shorter than the minivans of today and I prefer this size. I also like the headroom. I can put my bike inside standing up between the seats with space to spare. Most men like trucks, I like minivans. I've done a lot repair myself so I know what to expect on these MPV's My only concern is the condition of the engine and transmission. The seller swears all is good and from the photos, it does, but its not until I get it to a Mazda shop i'll know for sure. It may need a timing belt since I had to replace mine before. Even so, I'm still ahead provided everything else is good. Since 2004, I've put in about 4,500 miles on my MPV every year so my next one should last me at least 14 years.

The mpv uses timing chain not belt.
@GnosisMan503 жыл бұрын
@@alexbekkala1718 I lost sight of that... I just hope the timing chain on my 2003 will not give me any problems... thanks for pointing that out.

@@GnosisMan50 yeah no problem. I have a 05 Mazda6 with the 3.0 v6, and when I open the oil fill cap I can see the chain. I just purchased a used 02 mpv because I'm familiar with the 3.0. only had it couple weeks so far I'm loving having all the extra space. They are really nice looking vans.
@camryv2 жыл бұрын
Another minivan which is similarly sized is the 1st generation Toyota Sienna. It also has a 3.0 v6 and 7 seats. The sienna does have a timing belt though. Though the sienna being a Toyota where the MPV has a lot of ford parts (including the engine), the sienna is likely more reliable. I speak from experience of having of both.
