Dear Faith. I grew up as a “Christian” but I consider myself a baby Christian as I have only in the last year really dug into the Bible and consciously studied the word having read the Bible front to back for the first time this last year at age 37. I don’t have any memory of ever hearing terms like complementarian and egalitarian or Calvinism vs Arminianism before discovering your channel. I never heard of the 5 solas or many other things that I have learnt about since watching your videos. I haven’t “dug deep” before finding your channel. You have inspired me greatly to learn more and truly get to know God’s word and who He really is, His character and about His immense love for us. I am so grateful to have you as a source of truth and I see you more as a friend/sister in Christ as a “preacher”. You just have a gift for delivering a message and encouraging others to learn. I grew up in the (Nederduitse Gereformeerde kerk) is an Afrikaans church and I don’t know nearly as much from my years there as I have learnt through watching your videos. I have printed your cliff notes and stuck them in my bible and I am hoping to join your Bible boot camp soon. Some of us learn better from sitting in a church listening to a sermon and some like me learn better through platforms like you that feels more intimate and direct. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your videos. It is highly appreciated by women like me. Keep going. Much ❤️

@@anestrydom871 I was from the Nederduits Hervormde kerk... I also read a lot of christian books but after years only found out that it was peoples opinions not really God's word. The only book to read and study is the Bible. I read different versions of Bibles and then I did a comparison between them and found lots of scriptures left out and changed. The only true bible I found is the King James 1611 version. It is the best reference bible against the other modern versions. I found a pastor online that is of great help Robert Breaker to explain the word of God better the biblical way. You are free to try it. Hope this will help you and get a better biblical inside.

As a former complementarian, and speaking as a man, I can’t emphasize enough that what you are doing is valuable and important. It’s so easy for us to put ourselves in doctrinal boxes that sort of come as a “package deal,” without questioning some of the things within that package. People also have knee-jerk reactions to different perspectives, because some of the people that hold those perspectives also believe strange things from the package they were given. We need to stop, rewind, go back to sound hermeneutical principles, and approach each text with a willingness to both be challenged and transformed in our thinking. You are not only modeling that, but also directing people to resources that are helpful for their own journey. I recently found your channel as I was also exploring this topic in depth, and I plan to stick around. Also, I am a former Calvinist so I love that you delve into that world as well! For sound Arminian scholarship, check out William Lane Craig’s Divine Foreknowledge and Human Freedom. And keep up the good work!

I don’t know about the books. The videos that you put up about women in ministry have been extremely helpful to me. Your being vulnerable in those videos was monumental to me. It’s when we get desperate before Him that we start to see the true inward change that only the Holy Spirit brings. I have had the biggest struggle over this issue for over 35 years. I’ve been back and forth, and held fast to both sides at different times. My one absolute conclusion is that “I Don’t Know!” Perhaps I never really will and I’m ok with that. But I am totally interested in seeing where you end up. It surely makes a bigger difference in your life than it could mine. To be quite frank with you, it’s your pure honesty that has impacted me so much. I don’t see that often/ever. I do feel to point out that wisdom in the book of proverbs is depicted in feminine form. Just a thought.

I’m reading God of All Things that you recommended. I really like it. Definitely going to get Knowing Sin. Thank you for being open and honest about a struggle with understanding what a Women’s role in teaching looks like. I was indoctrinated with no women can teach or lead men too , along with other “doctrines” that the more I look at may not be what I was told/taught. I still believe they shouldn’t be behind the pulpit leading church but I realize I haven’t really studied the whole thing deeply for myself. I appreciate your willingness to open up and be real about it. It does help us that also have questions. I believe the Lord and Holy Spirit will give us the right direction and wisdom to understand what we need to do in these situations. Don’t be out off by the haters, which as Christians they shouldn’t be that anyways. Love your ministry!

I just found you and your videos and I just wanted to say Thanks. As a Christian there are so many people who think that we hold hate for people or that we are always constantly judging others and to tell you the truth I am harder on myself than anyone else in my life. That is why I am excited to find you. Hopefully through centering myself in God and faithing my life I will find what is really important again, and be able to share his message with others, which is the goal. lol. Anyways, I am stoked to find your channel and get back to whom I once was in my relationship and walk with God and take it farther than ever before. God Bless!!!!

I'm a theologically conservative egalitarian Christian and I am so impressed that you have been seriously studying the subject, even if it turns out that you end up disagreeing. I think the most frustrating thing for bible-based egalitarians is the assumption that if we don't agree with complementarians is that we are all liberals who don't take scripture seriously and authoritatively when it is not at all true. But like you, I have dealt with people who are extremely vitriolic when it comes to this subject and it doesn't matter how many scripture verses or well thought-out arguments one might make with such people. They will just accuse you of being a rebellious Jezebel and put you in the same category with murderers, prostitutes, adulterers, fornicators, etc. as if God never once said a single positive thing about women anywhere in scripture. It would be nice to at least have it recognized that there might, just might, be different ways of viewing some of these scripture passages in question without bad faith assumptions! I agree that it was probably a mistake for that author to use feminism to support egalitarianism, especially as feminism is such a loaded word and everyone seems to use it differently. I'd always thought of feminism as being "equal rights" like being able to vote and hold property and the like and couldn't comprehend why so many people, especially women, were against it. Only to later find out that third wave (or is it fourth wave now?) feminism has very little or nothing to do with such things and may not really have anything to do with women at all, unless the "woman" in question is actually a man. But that's another rabbit hole! Keep on keeping on. :)
@scapps8173
@scapps8173 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for explaining what I am feeling about feminism but could never put it into words. I started out thinking it was a good thing and now really dislike anything connected to feminism. I feel like I wish it had never started, but that's because of what it morphed into. I would be offended to ever be considered a feminist.

Hi Faith! I enjoyed your reviews but I was saddened when you asked "When do I stop teaching my boys?" I think the role of mother is unique from any ministry role a woman might have in the church. My son is now 23 and I still teach him but the nature of that teaching has changed for us. Up to about age 13 I was actively teaching him in order to convey to him my beliefs, values and facts about the world. Once he became a teen my teaching style changed to one of guiding him in how to use what I had taught him to make decisions about his life path. Our conversations now usually consist of him telling me about something he's thinking about doing and I ask thoughtful questions designed to get him to think through actions and potential consequences both positive and negative. In this way, his decisions are well considered and mostly in line with his chosen path. As a mother, I never stop teaching. I believe one of a mother's primary God given roles is to teach our children to be thoughtful, kind and faith-filled adults who will strive to bring goodness to whatever piece of the world God places them in.

A book that I really enjoyed that I actually recommended to my sister and a few of my friends was "How (Not) to Read the Bible" by Dan Kimball. He says at the beginning of the book that he knew a few people who decided to stop being Christians because they were actually reading their Bibles in its entirety and were finding things that they were having a hard time understanding, so he wrote the book to help people understand some of the more difficult topics of the Bible.

7:08 Eve did NOT eat an apple. That's one of those things that we were taught in Sunday School, but the Bible never says that. Eve ate the fruit. It was the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. I'm not sure exactly what that fruit looked like, but I'm sure it WASN'T an apple.

I believe that God gave you this gift to help people like me that struggle with understanding most of the Bible. I’ve always highlighted in my bibles and I have several, but the one I have now (CSB, he reads truth) has helped me more though I still go back to my KJV and read the difference, so don’t let the haters get to you and keep up the good work!!! I know that there are more people like me right here, and I can image there will be new people finding your videos who will need them! I think if we all look deep inside and be honest with ourselves and eachother, we find that we all struggle with these questions. We are all humans, we don’t have the authority to define the truth but we can strive to find the truth and be led to the truth by God and Jesus! So please ignore these comments of people who think they know better. Thank you so much for sharing🥰

I have dealt with guilt and shame most of my adult life. Recently I read a book by Green Daniel PH.D, Lawrenz Mel PH.D. Overcoming Guilt and Shame. This was a less heady book and more of a “How to” book. Great read about 200 pages and really drove the point that guilt is a status of wrong doing and shame is an emotion that we have a roll, partially, to play in. Here is a quote from the book. “We may hold ourselves to unrealistic expectations, demanding perfection. Or, we may project our shame onto others, inaccurately believing they have the same critical thoughts about us that we have about ourselves” (p 83).

My book recommendation is A.W. Tozer's The pursuit of God, The purpose of Man and The Crucified life. I have the 3-in-1 collection and have just started The persuit of God. I bought this after some one recoomended it (Katie, TheFaithLady here on KZbin) and after having read The Knowledge of the Holy, which BLEW me away!! So far, loving The Pursuit of God, but it is dense. Especially as English isn't my first language, although I am fluent init, Tozer, like Lewis, their English is pretty academic and they use words that aren't as common. Praise God that you are prayerfully considering your platform. You're seeking the truth, not others' opinions. There is a lot of grey area, and I pray that God continues to lead you. You're such an encouragement to me. Thanks for your content. ❤

I’ve only touched the surface on your whole catalogue of videos but everything I’ve watched has been an amazing help for me. I love how you view the hate, how you respectfully question and engage with the community that may be for or against you and women in general taking a bigger role in leading others toward God and Christ. Please don’t stop ever! I’m actually reading my Bible because of the viewpoint you’ve shown me in your Bible studies and journaling videos. I’m actually engaging in a relationship with God so I am forever grateful for you putting yourself out there on the internet ❤️

Your realness is what is the most helpful for me (and it seems others). There will always be people who do not guard their tongue. God is using you to reach people in a way that gives them a "fire" for Christ and your humble questioning of yourself and your doubts demonstrates your trust in God, his love and is a more real expression of our Christian walk than those who are being mean rather than engaging respectfully in a coversation with you about their disagreement with your questions or understanding. Oh and your boys are so delicious and have grown up so very much xxx

Your read of Ehrman and Wallace together reminded me of another book-and-response-book pair (2014): Ehrman's "How Jesus Became God" and Bird et al.'s "How God Became Jesus." Michael Bird (an Australian Anglican theologian) served as editor working with Craig Evans, Simon Gathercole, Charles Hill, and Chris Tilling to fill out a *lot* of detailed material. They're all excellent scholars who also wrote in a way that communicates to the non-scholar reader.

Never, Never take down your videos. They have helped me so much. Can you show us how you put the notes you dog ear into your bible. If the book does not give an exact scripture reference but is so so good. Where do you put it? I love having all my notes in my bible as the one source to look and study daily but having a hard time figuring out where to put certain notes. Example: I Recently learned about the different functions of scribes; I have no idea where to put this. Please help. Much Love

I love these kinds of videos and I love your love for books. (Thank you for being so critical of what you read!!! I feel a lot of the times that people must be right, because they are much smarter than me or have studies more than me, and so they must be right, right?! because they are master in their subject. But your teaching me that it is okay to think critically and hold it against your own world view and most of all against Scripture!!) Your raw and real videos are the best. Happy, cheery, crafty-videos are good and all (I love those!!) but when it comes down to it: you are showing us (women, but men aswell) how to dig deep and try to be true to Scripture and how to live a life of faith: not changing Scripture, but letting it change us. Which is what you are all about, right?! Thank you for an interesting video once again. I love your editting and video style. It must be a lot of work!!! Love, Hannah (from The Netherlands)

Yay. Another video by Faith. Me happy. And more books I can add to my list. Me even more happy. Oh & I can relate to the whole "carrying shame" thing. Totally feel you on that. It may not be for the same reasons, but I feel like the end result is the same. Lots of love & hugs, hun. (Hugs Faith) Oh & I'm a dude & don't mind learning from women. Otherwise I wouldn't click on your videos. I want knowledge & don't care where it comes from. And don't listen to the jerks on the internet. I know that's a heck of a lot easier said than done, but if you listen to them, they win. (Hugs Faith again) ☺☺☺❤❤❤

Two books I’d recommend are “Suffering Wisely and Well” by Eric Ortlund and “Unhindered Abundance” by Ken Baugh. Give them a shot, I promise you won’t be disappointed. PS: I’m a soft complimentarian. I’m constantly frustrated by the rhetoric from both sides. It seems like they’re both just talking past one another.

Mark DeJesus, "God loves me, I love myself... overcoming the resistance to loving yourself". Mark's books reach many Christians regarding difficulties with social anxiety and OCD related struggles. A quote I remember and was deeply touched with was... "God loves me; Im going to love what God loves." This and all of his books are filled with such insights.

Thk u for talking about the ‘women, don’t speak’ issue. At 71, I still am confused. I have such knowledge from the life God has given me & often, my Biblical words of caution or encouragement are for men, because I’m able to see things many others don’t…just because of where I’ve traveled w/ God. Women speak up in the church (to men) all the time-even conservative churches, & not necessary in a Godly way. I find this issue hypocritical. Yet I do want to be right w/ the Word & so, all my life, there has been this unresolved conflict even w/in myself! Perhaps we should be more concerned that women truly know who they are w/ God…& let Him lead them, as u r trying to do??? Bless you, sister.💜

Miriam in the Old Testament (Aaron and Moses sister) was from a family considered priests & priestesses. Song and dance is a form of prayer and not anyone can lead it...and women are not left to song and dance. I suggest you read some of the work by Sister Barbara Reid, O.P.; she is a Dominican nun and president of the Catholic University of Chicago. She is also ordained to teach preachers how to preach. I think you will very much love and appreciate her contribution to the idea of women preaching.

I also strongly recommend all women to read Phyllis Trible (Texts of Terror) and Sister Elizabeth Johnson (She Who Is); and finally, this will not likely make it to your shortlist, but the world of Merlin Stone "When God Was a Woman" to gain insight into how some women (who identify as Neo pagan or champion goddess archetypes) are actually going back to an ancient understanding of god's divinity far larger than only the sex definition; and how for men (creating an image of man of god) allowed the languaging and understanding (we need words to share~!) but it was never meant to be limited to men. It was always our birthright, as women, to have appreciation of the "great mother" which is not a native-earth-bound definition, but a larger theology that is dumbed down by people who make it seem like it is tree worship.

I'm also a woman in ministry, currently attending seminary. I have women in my family who have been clergy for much longer than I have. I understand the negative reactions that can bring, but we need to follow God's leading. I read a lot of excellent, deep books in my studies, but I'm currently re-reading a book on Jesus' life that I recommend. It's a long book written by a woman in ministry: The Desire of Ages, by Ellen White.
