With your kindle, head to your local library and ask about Libby! Libby is basically the library but for digital books. There's even some libraries that will offer Libby services for those out of area.

This! Perhaps 90% of the books I read are via Libby or Hoopla through my library. Free! And then books we have in Kindle! (I'm working through Epps' Junia the First Woman Apostle & Michael Bird's An Anonymous Jew right now which we got on sale.) My husband & I share Kindle libraries.

I was one to comment about you reading that author. I was so surprised that you wanted to read that book. But it makes so much sense that you want to read him critically. I am currently reading a book critically too. You are just human! Thanks for sharing!! Very humbling and very true.

I started following you very soon after becoming a Christian, and you have kept me so inspired in getting deep in my Bible studies (I'm a grad student so I'm still in student mode and love applying it to my time in the Word!) I would love to see your take on Christian fiction. Francine Rivers immediately comes to mind, because though it is fictional, I've certainly enjoyed her books and love that I don't have to worry about the influence of what I'm reading because it is rooted in scripture

Hey Faith would you consider doing a video or short explaining what Apologetics is? I've heard you mention it several times. Thank you. I find your videos very helpful and encouraging.
@rebekahearly1144
@rebekahearly1144 6 ай бұрын
I don’t know if Faith did a video, but basically apologetics can be described as a way to love God with your mind, or ‘reasoning ministry’. It involves looking at questions like ‘what is the nature of God?’ ‘Is the bible a historical/reliable document and how did we get it?’, looking at science, philosophy and those sorts of fields for evidence that verifies what we believe, as well as learning a biblical world view and responses to questions about hard things like suffering and evil. It’s fascinating, but there is huge diversity of thought so it can be tricky to navigate. Stand To Reason, Cold Case Christianity, Sean McDowell and Think Biblically, and the AC (Apologetics Canada) Podcast are a few approachable and general ones I would recommend myself - hope that helps 😊

The Hiding Place is a favorite of mine so I was hesitant, like "what could this author possibly add to Corrie's story" since she was a great storyteller herself. It sounds almost like a Bible Study so that sounds intriguing. P. S. - Read the Hiding Place!!!!

I commented about that other book, too, but had an inkling it was a critical read (before you clarified as such) because you had read Childers. I'm so glad you leave room for this kind of reading. I shop a lot of thrift books and am always so afraid I'll unknowingly read something with bad doctrine. But you inspire me to pick up more and use the discernment God gives me... that's how we will know and share with others. I just ordered a whole load of 49 and 99 cent books from a Christian supplier! Time to start discerning! 😂

A book recommendation to read is “Ruby Ridge to Freedom” by Sara Weaver. Its her life story, which you may know from news coverage, but with facts that were not in the news or otherwise skewed. Another is “Becoming Free Indeed” by Jinger Vuolo. Its her life story. Her sister Jill Dillard has a book that was great too. It is called “Counting the Cost”.

I tend to buy the kindle version for books I want to casually read in bed because the lighting is better for my eyes than a book light, or if they are a lot cheaper to get than the physical copy I’ll get the kindle. If it’s a book I know I will want to highlight and write in, I will buy the physical book. (You can highlight on kindle too, but I much prefer flipping through a physical book and seeing the highlights and notes).

My son loves Hobby Lobby!! He gets his paints there and sometimes canvases if they are on sale. He can also find other items if he needs to do abstract work. Now, Me Mardels is the place to be. I don't get to go often it is about 50 mi from here. Give me a $100 and it will be gone in minutes. Books, shirts (only on sale), and anything else I might find. I do enjoy the cross aisle at Hobby Lobby It never fails that there is always something that is in my budget concerning crosses. It is probably for the best that Mardels is a small drive to the town of (TTU, a university with its own zip code.) Same as Hobby Lobby. Hope you are staying warm in your part of Texas. We made it through the first arctic blast, now we're just waiting for the next one just around the corner. Stay warm and I pray you continue to have electricity.

It’s called “I will not Fear” by Melba Pattillo Beals. It’s a Christian History book about one of the girls who was a part of the Little Rock Nine. She talks about her experiences being one of the first black people at an all white school and how her faith in God sustained her through those tough times. Thank you for making videos that help us and inspire us to get closer to God❤ I hope you are doing well and God bless 🙏❤️

I LOVE Hobby Lobby and always take a peek at those books near the checkout. As an avid reader (kindle, physical and audio) I have a library card and use it to its fullest extent! Since I already have a very large physical collection, when it comes to buying physical copies I've started to use this method: I will borrow it via kindle or audiobook from my library or Spotify (they give you 15hrs free each month for premium members). If its too dense for me to listen to I'll try kindle next. If I love it after listening or reading it on kindle; *and* want to revisit or read it again then I will buy it. Something I've recently implemented since moving. I'm trying and be more selective and mindful about purchasing psychical books.

I saw Corrie Ten- Boom as a young girl at Calvin college in Grand Rapids, Michigan in the 70’s. I gave my life to Christ that night. I loved reading “The Watchmakers daughter”. Very moving book. I was very interested in learning more about what went on in the Netherlands during WW2 as my mother in-law lived in the Netherlands during the war and had German soldiers in their home. I think this book is a must read for every Christian. Corrie and Betsies faith in Christ is so beautiful. They both were so dedicated to reaching others with the Gospel.

When you asked how we choose which books to buy on kindle and what to buy physically: I often buy books on my kindle/kobo that I’m not sure I will want to read again/take up shelf space. Often if I really love a book I’ll buy a physical copy as well. I also buy a lot of fiction on my kindle because I don’t find it’s worth taking up too much shelf space, personally. There’s also been times I’ve enjoyed a book and wasn’t going to get a physical copy but buy a copy so I can lend to people 😂

11:24 I don’t understand your suggestion to read 1 corinth 8 ❤ I went to read hoping to learn about saying mean stuff to people but I just read and learned about eating meat offered to idols 😅 can someone explain what I got wrong? 🙏🏽 thanks

This is one of my favorite books about historical Christian figures: "Autobiography of George Muller: A Million and a Half in Answer to Prayer" There are dozens of books about George Muller, but truly this is the only one that affected me deeply. It's very expensive and hard to find, but so worth it!

I LOVE your book videos. Great reading journal, too!! Fun to get a look inside! And just my opinion: I know it’s not about perfection, but I think Gods put in us a healthy strive for perfection in this way: wanting things look look nice and be beautiful and aesthetic!! And I think that is very good. Being annoyed that your pen smudged isn’t perfectionism, I don’t think. It’s working carefully on something and making it pretty and than something messing it up. - just a side note haha. And I love Christian historical fiction. I love reading Tessa Afshar. Her books give me such a sense of the time Jesus and the Apostles lived. Very helpful.

I love Christian History books! I have to say that in 2022, The Hiding Place and God's Smuggler were in my top 3 books and I have purchased multiple copies of both and given them away (something I don't do with other books very often!). The Hiding Place is wonderful, there are so many hidden gems throughout it about the Christian life, very powerful illustrations from her real life. Written from Corrie Ten Boom's perspective. God's Smuggler is about Brother Andrew and how God used him to smuggle Bibles behind the iron curtain. It's riviting-- opened my eyes and challenged my faith! (And because it's so exciting, it was a pretty fast read.) I highly recommend it, as it really elevates the preciousness of God's Word and the hand of God. (Especially profitable to any Christian that has grown up in the West.) (If you think you would like to read it, I would be happy to send you a copy!)
