Thanks coach, I am almost 50, haven't played since the 80's and trying to coach up my kids. You have no idea how much you help! A lot of stuff I kind of know but you make it so easy to teach my kids the right way

Will be 30 this year and decided to pick up some roller hockey. Spent most of my life aggressive skating so I’m comfortable on blades and have absolutely have been addicted to being out there just trying to teach myself the fundamentals. These videos are amazing!

Love that there’s always a small thing one can learn and work on to get better. 32 and the roll off the back just floored me. Always played around with rolling pucks just goofing off but connecting that to making stick handling better just awesome! Thanks Jeremy!

im a beginner to hockey and im learning basic puck skills right now because i’ve never skated in my life lol😅, but i just want to say that this video has helped me a lot because i have been noticing what i’ve been doing wrong and that “roll it out the back” technique really changed how ive been doing my dangles, thanks coach🙏

Thanks for the great tip, Coach Jeremy! I definitely have the problem of causing the puck to flip up when I'm dribbling it back and forth, just never really thought about why. Gonna have to spend some time labbing this!

I've been practicing this during stick-and-puck and am getting better and faster at it. Would love to see a follow-up to this video, with an analysis of NHL players using it during play and how to best implement it. Jack Eichel and Jack Hughes come to mind as players who stick handle at an extremely high level where the puck seems to be absolutely glued to their blade.

@howtohockeytraining Coach Jermy, Wanted your advice on the tiles you would recommend us to use in our backyard, especially for stick handling drills - we live in a city where we never have snow. I really like the tiles set up you have in the video - Thank you so much all your content, its been really helpful for my kids.

Great video! One thing I would add is that if you feel like you are losing the puck seemingly “under the blade”, you may want to see what the Lie of your hockey stick is. (As you know) Generally speaking, the lower the lie number, the further from the body your so-called “sweet spot” is on the ice. The Higher the number, the closer to your body your sweet spot will be. I only bring this up because it is top of mind for me - just published a video regarding this - which came about from a player using a PM9 and we’re having trouble stickhandling close to their body.
@howtohockeytraining
@howtohockeytraining Жыл бұрын
Not enough players know about the lie! How tall the stick also makes a difference. Some players have sticks that are too long and they struggle controlling the puck in close

@@howtohockeytraining agreed! When I was younger, I believe they used to label it on the hockey stick with the curve and flex rating. Now, it does not appear as often on the stick (I believe True labels it?) and it can be troublesome for those who are just starting out.

Do you think it's a good idea to try to stick handle like this without lifting the stick at all... in practice anyway? I'm about to try it out and then do with my little guy tomorrow, but was wondering your thought on it. Also, your videos are the greatest ever

I'm curious, can this technic be applied when training with a ball to play Dek hockey? Would there be adjustments to do? Great video as usual!
@howtohockeytraining
@howtohockeytraining Жыл бұрын
It can definitely be applied with a ball - the movement is just more exaggerated! 😁 (and also with a ball you don't have to worry about it flipping up so you don't always have to keep your stick in contact with the ground)

What if you keep losing the puck while stick handles
@logicfiction39
@logicfiction39 6 ай бұрын
Im curious if theres a reason no ones “rolls it out the front”. The belfry video made it sound like the constant touch on the puck without the micro lift over is the other main benefit since you keep the blade on the puck the whole time. It would seem like doing the same from forehand would then be beneficial, but I havent seen that. Maybe since the blade more naturally cups and shades the puck on forehand its not as useful plus its hard to execute technique-wise and therefore not worth it? I guess it also depends where youd try to roll out on the front. The heel would be better but the curve of the stick makes the transition to a backhand cup awkward. The more natural inverse of the rollout the back movement would then be from the front toe of the blade. That does feel smooth but now youre introducing a lot more front to back top arm movement to spin the puck along the whole blade. Which Im guessing is slower and opens you up for pokechecks more than holding at the heel.
