Great video! Down the road, once the wood had a chance to completely dry out, did any if the slats in the door come loose? I didn't see anything to keep those held in place besides on tek screw at each end of the band.

I didn’t dry it. It never shrank. It still works fine.

Just follow the steps in the video. You don’t really “make” the door. You just cut it out.

Excellent! I have just got my hands on a wine barrel as it so happens... As a newbie, I have a question: would it be possible to put the hinges at the bottom of the door instead of the side so it opens like a flap? Wouldn't that get around the poblem of the hinges getting ripped out when you open the door? Or maybe I'm just visualising it wrong in my head...

Hinges can be used but for some reason people get hung up on the idea that they need to be attached flat across the face. The easy solution is to mortise the hinges so that the open ends protrude inside the barrel. Use a large framing square or diy square and hang from one end of the barrel and down the side to line up the hinge pins. Wherever you decide to mount the hinges just make sure that the hinge pins are out far enough so that when you line them up with each other down the length of the barrel that the projected line clears the widest middle of the barrel.....if that makes sense.
