UVA protection is shown by PA(PAA). PA(A)++++ is a very high protection. As was told in the video, UVB protection is measured in SPF factor (15/30/50/50+). I personally prefer a physical sunscreen. Though yes, most give you a white cast ( shade ), you can still find those, without it.

great video :) i personally use the bondi sands fragrance free SPF 50 for the face (they have a body one too) and it works great for me as a person with dry skin. bondi sands is also an australian brand of sunscreen, which to me is a big plus because the regulations around SPF in australia are a lot stricter since they receive the strongest sun rays on the earth. some US sunscreens have been reported to have a lower SPF factor than what is advertised, so i refrain from using them unless i’ve done full research on the product i use. i also love the bondi sands because it doesn’t leave a white cast on the face, so it’s perfect for darker complexions as well! the only drawback is that it has chemical UV filters in the active ingredients. that being said however, any sunscreen you use is going to be worth it no matter if it’s mineral, physical, or chemical.

How about vitamin D, does sunscreen compromise vitamin D levels?
@howtomedicate
@howtomedicate 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Everything, Great question. As far as I know sunscreen does not compromise vitamine D levels. It only blocks UVA and UVB rays.
@johnyanez4962
@johnyanez4962 3 жыл бұрын
@@howtomedicate I would think that anything that blocks ultraviolet exposure would also prevent your body from making vitamin D. However, since over the counter vitamin D3 supplements are very effective, this is completely moot. I say stay out of the Sun as much as possible, take a vitamin D3 supplement, have your doctor monitor your vitamin D, adjust your dosage as needed and most importantly, use sunscreen with good UVA protection.

@@johnyanez4962 not exactly. Sunscreen doesn't 100% block all rays, it's just to Minimize exposure, hence you STILL get vitamind d
@BBTdietist
@BBTdietist 2 жыл бұрын
I would think.. And correct me if I’m wrong. The vitamin d metabism is stimulated by UVB. So in the winter you could use spf 15 because it will always block UVA but the vitamin d metabolism will be more because a lower spf equals a lower UVB blockage. And In the summer the exposure to UVB is enough and you need the protection against sunburn so use an spf 30 or 50.

It's worth mentioning five things here: 1) non-burning UV exposure is critical to the proper function and development of the human body. People who chronically get insufficient non-burning UV exposure are at higher risk for obesity, metabolic syndrome, type I diabetes, type II diabetes, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, asthma, allergies, eczema, rheumatoid arthritis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, schizophrenia, statin intolerance, macular degeneration and myopia and have higher all-cause mortality rates than people who get sufficient non-burning UV exposure. Chronically insufficient non-burning UV exposure also makes one more susceptible to a wide range of infectious diseases. 2) There is no consistent evidence demonstrating that using sunscreens lowers one's risk of getting skin cancer. In fact, evidence suggests the opposite may be the case. 3) All active ingredients used in sunscreens have safety issues. Many of them are suspected carcinogens, many others are endocrine disruptors and some of them are both. Scientific studies have found that these chemicals are absorbed into the body and are detectable in the blood within minutes after sunscreen is applied to the skin. 4) Excessive use of sunscreen can lead to vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency and chronic insufficient UV exposure, along with the increased risk of the above mentioned health problems. 5) Malignant melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer, is one of the easiest forms of cancer to diagnose and cure. It currently has a survival rate of 92%. All of the forms of cancer associated with chronic UV underexposure are more deadly than malignant melanoma. Most people in the developed world are now chronically UV underexposed, and it is the cause of a major public health problem.

I've never used sunscreen and never will. If you notice when you're told to use sunscreen doctors and others tell you to use one with the highest factor number. They must be on a commission as the one they suggest is the highest factor therefor the most expensive.
