I spent around ten years focusing entirely on framing my base speed off how fast I could tremolo pick and as a result I not only became ridiculously fast at picking one note but also playing complex and fast riffs which incorporate lots of pedaling. This also translated to mastering wrist motion for economy picking. I admit that it took longer to get consistent 16th note downstrokes at higher tempos like 200bpm but the fact is that being able to play super fast pedal tones really makes it easier to artificially increase the speed of the music and make everyone feel like they have to rush to keep up with you.

To be honest, the fastest playing exists might be either some crazy fast sweep picking or some tapping with REALLY efficient hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Yeah like the solo to Stevie T's ed sheeran parody song. The super fast tap legato thing he does.

I agree. Sweeping is way more efficient than constantly changing directions (ie. tremolo picking). If that's really what you want to sweep for... just the speed.

Definitely, fast picking is fun and all but it’s really nice to utilize other techniques like legato and tapping to make playing more tasteful.

Hi Mike, I just Wanna know what's your point of View about stamina, how to practice it, and the transference that have it on máximum speeds, many thanks and regards 👍🏼

Tremolo picking is like being a racecar driver by only practicing on straight empty roads. If I was only interested in pure alternate picking (I know, I know)... I would practice for hours on the strings by repeating licks where you play two notes on a string and one note on another target string -- back and forth ad nauseum with Pebber Brown level regimens. That forces you to always play that target string with a different stroke than before (whether an up or down stroke). That seems a bit more realistic for actual music playing speeds than boneheaded tremolo picking.
