I’ve always wanted a boat with atleast 35-50 feet, nothing under, I hate small spaces and in the middle of the ocean I want to feel safe especially in storms, I don’t want anything over 50 because the prices to maintain the boat is too expensive. So 35-49 feet is my preferred length

​@ChasingLatitudes I am stuck with the decision on the size. Currently, I live in Switzerland, so I'm about 7 hours drive away from the nearest marina with somewhat reasonable rates. I have to be in Switzerland min. 2 days/week, except during the 5 weeks of holiday I have per year. This situation will last min. 4 years. During this time, I'll have an annual contract with the marina in St. Raphael and from there I'll be sailing solo and mostly short distances along the Cote d'Azur, with occasional longer trips to Corsica, Sardinia and Balearic during my holidays. For this, a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 is all what I need. However, after 4-5 years, I will start living onboard full-time. I'll need a cabin as garage and another one as home-studio and then I would very much prefer a 55 footer. I don’t want to go through the hassle of buying, refitting and selling twice. Thetefore, the logic commands to either wait 5 years and then to buy a 55-footer or to already buy a 55-footer. However, IMHO it is crazy to buy such a big boot which I won't be able to use regularly and when i do, i will be docking to the most expensive marinas of Mediterranean. I can't decide what to do.

You make a lot of good points. And there is always going to be someone who going to disagree with you. I have owned and sailed sloop and ketch rigs your comment that A ketch is old school and difficult to sail interest me. are you experienced with ketch rig sailing Or just assuming. Because I have Found the versatility or sail configurations on the ketch rig Easier to handle than equivalent sized sloop rigs.

I am looking to buy a yacht to live aboard/cruise. 40' - 50'. These are the exact basic things that I asked myself to look for. Contenders come and go. Be patient. The perfect yacht comes along every now and then. If you miss your dream yacht, just wait. Another one that fits your requirements will come on the market eventually.

100 percent, the key is to never get attached to a vessel, especially if you don't own it yet

I'm complelled to correct you. 4 things to consider in relation to size. LOA, LWL, Draft, Beam. Draft is important it can limit where you can take the boat. ie; Can you get into that Marina? Can I get into that hurricane hole? Beam of a Catamaran limits you to less marina slips, etc....

Sure, the 343 is a better deal than the 323 usually , depending on the price of course however oddly enough the 343 can be snagged at the same price as the 323

First off yes the size of the boat does matter when it comes to sailing solo. This is why when you get to a certain size they come with crew quarters. Additionally spitting out terms without explaining the terms in a video for people who have not purchased a boat yet, is a mind numbing oversight.
