"Check to see if the water is warmer than usual." THANK YOU! this thing is so inaccurate!!! Happens in lakes that have non intermixing layers. Overtime CO2 buildsup in the lower levels without being released, eventually the gas reaches a critical point where this bottom layer is completely saturated and a explosive chain reaction occurs.

Driving away will not work, the carbion dioxide renders combustion impossible in car engines. Best thing to do is climb on top of a vehicle or something even taller. Climb up a tree even. That truck that stalled out? Actually, you should rely on luck and your sight. If you walk on it, it explodes. There are no click followed by some kind of sound and a speaker that says « Hey, if I was you, I wouldn’t take my foot out of this place ». If you step on a land mine, it explodes nearly instantly. This is like what Michael Bay thinks a limnic eruption is. First, there are two lakes in the world that have the right conditions and they are in Africa, one of them has been remedied so that it will never happen again. Second, I don't think a tidal wave is part of the deal. Third, rotten eggs indicate sulfur, not carbon-dioxide. Limnic eruptions are caused by the build-up of carbon dioxide in the cooler waters at the bottom of the lake. This is only a problem when the temperature is consistent year round and the water stands still. So, when the pressure builds up the carbon dioxide is released rapidly. Think about shaking a soda bottle and opening it, except it's a lake. Bubbles, not waves. So the real scary thing is that it's not a big event. Just an invisible death that covers a 25km radius with no warning. How do you survive? Don't go to Lake Monoun in Cameroon. At least until they install the vents.
