My dad worked for one of the largest military defense contractors. He specifically worked on all the ballistic missiles for our submarines from the Polaris , Poseidon to the Trident C2. He told me we moved 15 minutes from Boston in the hopes that if we have nuclear war the first one would land on our heads. There with be only suffering and slow death for anyone that survives. These people who think that they have a chance to survive by preparing and storing supplies are only fooling themselves into believing a nuclear war can be won. No one will survive that is above ground no one will survive underground unless they have an air supply that can be recycled because fresh air will no.longer exist. Air itself may not exist because this planet will burn and reach temperatures near sun like conditions. The amount of heat generated by that many nuclear weapons will enough to wipe every living thing of this planet and the nuclear winter will poison and freeze anything left behind. Nuclear war is the end of man kind sadly we will take every other living creature with us to hell.

I am absolutely not a nuclear physicist. But actually within 30 miles you would still have a pretty nice blast wave. So you would have you know death from debris, flying debris, falling debris, blah blah, blah Burns first second third degree burns in that area the 30 miles. But as far as being disintegrated no that's not going to happen in a 30 mile area. That's more like a 5 to 10 mile area. Actually, if you check it out, there was a gentleman in Japan and if my history serves me right, we hit Okinawa, Okinawa or Nagasaki first. I can't remember but anyway he was in the first city we're. The first bomb was dropped. He needed some medical attention so they flew him to Nagasaki for medical care. That's right where they dropped the second bomb 3 Days later. And yes, he was there in the second blast also and the man survived for many years. I think he lived to be in his '80s so it is possible to survive. Just a lot of hell. Personally I want nothing to do with it. The greatest threat afterwards would be radiation sickness. Iodine is what you use to try to alleviate that and other people will be the worst threat because they will want what you have. And really all the distances depend on the size of nuclear weapon that is detonated. So there is really no gospel no matter what anyone says for any of it and it just might be your damn day to be done. You know we never know but have a good one man

One small detail which might darken the "happy" ending. A nuclear winter is projected to last around 10 years. I suppose that might vary depending on the magnitude of the exchange.
