Mavis Staples marched arm-in-arm with Martin Luther King Jr. Nina (Simone) cried power in her music for civil rights. Every artist they mentioned (John) Lennon, Joni (Mitchell), James Brown, are all activists that used their music to fight for the environment, civil rights, against the Vietnam war, etc. Those names were not as libbed-they are very important figures in music and activism. Billie (Holiday), (Bob) Dylan, Seeger, Marvin (Gaye), Patti (Smith), also Mavis fucking Staples, it would be an honor to be in the same room as her. She literally defied her father, broke up the family gospel group, began singing secular music and marched for civil rights at Martin Luther King Jr’s side. She was willing to blow up her career and get arrested for marching for civil rights (which happened repeatedly) until they were won. She is an absolute legend.

Before you get to Wasteland Baby, could you do Arsonist's Lullaby from the first album, because it wasn't on the version you listened and it's another incredible song that's sadly overlooked by many because it's not on all versions of the album? :)

@@balisandra94 and did you read about its meaning? It's so beautiful i love it especially for that reason. I also deciphered personally that as it depicts the relationship between the desert and the ocean it also mirrors how both individuals (desert and ocean, person and person) wanna mingle but always end up affecting the other in the process, disrupting their own individuality. It's so precious

Since NFWMB isn't on the albuns, and you're reacting to live performances, I suggest the acoustic/live version of this song, where's he's singing in this big church like space (it's on his channel from october 2018). Steven’s To Do: NFWMB (Nobody Fucks With My Baby), In the Woods Somewhere, Wasteland Baby (full album), the Parting Glass on RTE, Arsonist’s Lullaby, Rumors of Whiskey (30 sec clip), and my own personal pick: the version of Wasteland Baby that he played on Ellen is just absolutely *exquisite*. this song has to be one of my favorites on the entire album, it’s so incredibly powerful (no pun intended) and soulful. hozier himself described the song as “a Thank You Note to the Spirit of Protest”. the names they referenced were of revolutionary/protest artists like Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Billie Holliday, James Brown, Mavis Staples herself, and more. for hozier, it’s a song full of unbridled optimism especially with lyrics like “power has been cried by those stronger than me.” i think 1000% you can definitely hear and feel the strength and unity in this song, as well as the legacy of all of the people who have protested injustice in the world before us. it’s just so fucking good, i get chills every time i hear it

Please make reaction to Diana Ankudinova - the most unique young talented singer. One of my favourite things to find and enjoy is music that gives me chills and goosebumps. I was cruising KZbin recently and discovered a Russian talent show contestant that did just that, with one of the best, most unique voices I've heard in many years. Her delivery was nothing short of magical and I searched out more and more and more, and...more chills. I was stunned to find that the first performance I heard was when she was 14!!!! She's now 17 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French and English. The covers she performed on that show are very popular on KZbin. Many KZbinrs publish reactions on these performances, which include the ethnic song "River" (in a new musical arrangement), "Blizzard", "Wicked Game", "Human", "Derniere Danse" and others. Please react to one of Diana's songs and I promise she will surprise you.
