I have been obsessed (in a good way :)) with Hozier for 10 years. This man has never written a bad song, his arrangments are beautiful, and his voice is remarkable... the tone!! Even songs that he's covered are better with his unique voice and arrangements. More Hozier, please.

I think I am one of a very few middle aged straight guys (with 3 kids) that listens to Hozier every day... I don't do this with any other artist.

I highly recommend Movement from Hozier. Incredible song with just as incredible lyrics.

The relationship between a Shrike and the Thorns is maybe a little gruesome, but the Shrike literally needs the Thorns to survive. It dies without them. Remember me love, when I'm reborn. As a Shrike to your sharp and glorious Thorn... This song is the most beautiful and emphatic way to say two simple words that carry the weight of so much love, pain, and regret. "Forgive me."
@zephyrumbrella Жыл бұрын
A little tldr on shrikes, they catch insects and small vertebrates and then impale them on thorns to eat them. Hence the "As the shrike to your sharp and glorious thorn" lines.

Hozier is legit one of the best to ever do it. Personally I’d love to see would that I, Avery wine, or movement next, but honestly he doesn’t have a bad song so you’re I. Good shape no matter what!
@MrBogus213 Жыл бұрын
This is the best version of this song imo. I'm sure people have said this already but, the shrike is a bird that impales its prey on like thorns or barbed wire, cactus needles etc. They use it as a tool to pull off parts of the prey to eat. Its pretty gruesome. In the song, he's comparing his willingness to give everything to this woman to being her prey. "Hung like the pelt of some prey you had won". And in some way, though he's torn apart, he keeps coming back. You should give The War On Drugs: "I don't live here anymore." Its really fun and meaningful.

This was my favorite version until I saw the live for World Cafe one. His accent shines in that one.

The look in your eyes - you were shook. Hozier always hits hard. As others have said, Hozier has never written a bad song, but if he has we'll never know. And his voice is glorious. There are all the album tracks that others have mentioned, but there are a few other really special recordings that are covers: 1) The Parting Glass (live from the Late Late Show 2) My Lagan Love (the Other Voices Series) 3) Bridge Over Troubled Water (by Simon & Garfunkel) - the RTE does Comic Relief video (recorded early in the pandemic). 4) And for a wildcard pick - check out Meduza featuring Hozier on Tell It to My Heart - Live performance version (an old Taylor Dayne song). Trust me on this one - it is VERY different from his usual recordings! kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5W7hH6biaZ7sK8

A little more ornithology: Shrikes are known also as 'butcher birds' because they 'store' their insects and other little kills by spiking them onto thorns - which may make the lines about thorns and bodies mounted on hedgerows make more sense to people otherwise unfamiliar with shrikes. I saw Hozier live in Oct 2019 and he had a joke on stage about how that sounded as messy as romance to him. (He's great live, and has a great sense of humor.)

His new song Through Me has quickly become one of my favourites. And the lyricism is especially poetic, which you seem to really get a lot out of!

This is my absolute favorite song of his ❤and it's a joy to watch you react to Hozier, love how much you appreciate both the lyrics and music, and how genuine you are about what you feel. If you want to check out more, From Eden is a classic, and I'd also recommend NFWMB, Would that I, or In a Week. But like everyone has said, the man's never made a bad song, so anything you choose will be just as amazing :)

Maybe my fav HOZIER at least top 5. And prob. One of my top 10 all time songs. So poetic and beautifully sung. The imagery OMG so Celtic, a bird Shrike in the shelter of a Hedgerow of the sacred Hawthorn with its sharp thorns. I can listen 1000 times and still get moved so deeply.

You just can't go wrong with Hozier!! React to Movement and Nina cried Power ft Mavis Staples (the music video)!! The whole album is so poetic and incredible!

You saying this probably sounds better than the studio version....it does! His vocals are significantly more muffled in the studio version. They are super-duper clear and loud and this live version. I definitely prefer this version compared to the version that's actually on the album.
