I added 4 Gb RAM to my 4 Gb, now it's 8 Gb and it works as dual channel. Before upgrading anyone has to look at their model of memory and highly recommended to add the same RAM as you have already

You can add more storage & RAM to it as you feel fit. In terms of RAM I believe the maximum is 2x 16GB SODIMMs, 32GB in total.

I got the version without the dvd drive and it took me 30 minutes to open it. Pretty frustrating. There is a plastic catch in the middle near the hdd that can't be opened without breaking. I hate that nowdays you have to open the case to change the drive.

Yes. It uses DDR4-2400 modules (link in the description) although you can fit 2666/3200 modules, they'll just run at the lower speed.

A 2400MHz SODIMM should work fine. It'll only run at 2133MHz though as that is the maximum official speed the i3-6006U can work at.

I wouldn't call this a simple job if you have a metallic case. It is very hard to remove the cover without damaging or scratching the plastic - there are a large number of clips around the edge. Also, on some models, HP puts the M.2 SSD in a bracket where the 2.5 hard drive should be, presumably just to make it difficult to upgrade.

Thank god they changed their machines to be more upgrade-friendly. Those HP Mini PC's are very upgrade-able and just require 1 thumb screw to open up

Yes - this is the case with any modern laptops, bar a few high-end gaming laptops which use desktop components.

You'd have to replace the entire mainboard, as the CPU is soldered to it. Its not really economical to do this in most cases.

There were models with and without. To add the optical drive you'd need to buy a new bottom with the cut-out, the SATA board (assuming the mainboard has the connector for it) and a optical to SATA adapter + mounting bracket. It probably doesn't make sense from a cost perspective.

I have one of these laptops from 2018 and it worked so well for everything, a true veteran and I have a silly sentimental attachment to it. Toward the end of 2021 its performance dropped though, I think the HDD got heat damaged from me working outside with the computer (the sun got this thing so hot I've burned myself on the touchpad). Do you think replacing the hard drive with a solid state type would deal with the issue? I'm also a bit freaked out about it now because a friend has the same model which also slowed down to unusable but it might've already been like that from the start.

The Power button board can be reasonably easily replaced if damaged, see P77 of the service manual: h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05485525.pdf You can also short the pins on the power board or mainboard connector to start it up, but not really a long-term solution and not something I'd recommend if you don't know what you're doing.

No. The CPU in pretty much all modern laptops is soldered down and can only be replaced by replacing the mainboard with one with a higher spec CPU on it.

Only by replacing the mainboard as both the CPU and GPU (if present, most are built in to the CPU) are soldered to that, which probably isn't economically viable vs. just buying a more powerful laptop. Glad the video was helpful though!

No, the CPU is soldered down in pretty much all modern laptops - only a few very high-end gaming and workstation laptops using desktop CPUs have replaceable chips.

Hello, I'm trying to open this laptop and I can't remove the plactic cover. I have removed all screws and those plastic clips aren't holding the cover. It looks like the only thing that it holds is a VGA port as I can't pull the plastic cover over it. What should I do? It also feels a little bit that it's being held by something inside, but there are no screw left, so it's maybe just na odd feeling. What should I do? Apply more force?

Hey there, I believe you can add 2 16GB SODIMMs in there, adding up to 32GB of RAM in total. In terms of adding either SATA or NVME M.2 storage, that depends a lot of what your motherboard & your laptop shipped with. For example: some laptops have the 2.5 inch drive bay for SATA drives (HDD or SSD), while others may come with a little NVME MM2 daughter board in its place. Additionally, the motherboard may come with a soldered on NVME M.2 port, which you can use for storage, as well as a boot drive. Like I mentioned earlier, it all depends on what your laptop came with pre-installed.
