What a beautiful machine! HP is indeed on a roll with these Dragonfly and Envy series for the past few years. They really are onto something. I'm in dire need of a new PC and I feel like I might go Chromebook route this time around but I never really had one before so I'm quite a bit inexperienced. I just found out that I also have to look out for AUE dates of the chromebooks that I have my eyes on to get the best experience. As a medical student, a nice and clean Full HD display + a stylus is just my cup of tea.

Gorgeous, but my guess, by the time It comes out in EU/NL, it's gonna be expensive. I had an ASUS c302 (based on their review), then now an ASUS C434 (based on their review) and at present I am contemplating going for an ASUS cx5400. This machine is gorgeous, but too high end for my daily usage purposes. If I were a rich man, however? :)

2:00 I think that's not correct. The round logo is still the official company logo. I just checked and found low end to mid range laptops which are produced in 2022 which have the round logo. It's not old, in fact what you describe as new goes back to before the round logo existed, but I think you know that or have seen some memes about it. The bars logo is for (super) high performance devices. ProBooks are still sold with the round logo, an EliteBook could have the bars logo, I'm not sure. Think of this like a brand like ThinkPad. Or from the other point of view if Apple made cheaper phones and branded them as Pear Newton to distance them from their other products.

My question would be right now, is this something you would pick up and use on a daily basis over an i5/8gb Pixelbook Go right now? I bought that back in May of 2020 and I unfortunately ended up breaking it. IMO it usurped many laptops in terms of build quality and performance, let alone Chromebooks. That chassis (maybe the single most underrated design in laptop history) will forever be hard to beat but if I could get something to replace it that was of similar build quality and a better screen I'd jump on board.

You could probably find that pixelbook go on the resale market pretty cheap. Have you considered a repair job? No it's repairability is like but it might be worth visiting a local independent repair shop.
@andyH_England2 жыл бұрын
Nothing has yet beaten the Pixelbook Go hence why Google has not updated it, they do not need to as it sets the gold standard. For a clamshell the Go remains the best and anything else is just settling for next best. If you need a 2-in-1 then that is another matter.

It's definitely a nice device. The problem here is that nice isn't enough to compete with the Pixelbook Go or the Macbook Air M1, especially at the price these things are selling for. The Core i3 version with 8BG RAM and 256GB SSD is selling for just short of 1200 USD. That amount can get you an M1 Macbook Air, M1 Macbook Pro, M2 Macbook Air or a Pixelbook Go - and in that context, this starts to look like a terrible deal. And with Apple silicon devices sipping juice and having fantastic battery life, I can't think of a single reason to get this instead of any of the above devices listed.

Here after I heard that this was basically the best Chromebook in production- looking for a replacement for my 2017 pixel book after the recent news that Google has stepped out of the laptop market and despite this device being a step in the right direction for the market it's still a very disappointing device. I hate that everything i look at feels like a compromise compared to a five year old laptop. The new processor's nice and the ports could be useful but it's a bigger, louder, more unwieldy device with those rounded edges that make most convertible laptops annoying to use in tablet mode, lacks any real improvements in memory or storage, and doesn't have an assistant key. On top of it all, it's significantly more expensive than the already expensive pixel book was. This is a nice device but I'm finding myself increasingly frustrated looking for a more modern Chromebook that lives up to my current one
@mw79672 жыл бұрын
Before anyone scoffs at what is sure to be a hefty price tag, consider that the same people who mock those who spend a thousand dollars on a chrome-book are likely the very same who justify a thousand dollar iPad purchase.

I don't think that's a fair comparison. For people who want/need an iPad, they may be willing to spend that much money for a device that legitimately has very little real competition. But this? $1000 for a Chromebook when you can get really solid Windows laptops or an M1 MacBook Air for the same price. An the MacBook is likely going to get similar, if not better, battery life.
@mw79672 жыл бұрын
@@blueciffer1653 true, but I don’t place chrome books on the same plain as a MacBook. I see chrome book as more comparable to the iPad. Both occupy the same market segment. If you’re looking at a MacBook, it’s highly unlikely that you’re considering a chrome book anyway.

Who is a premium Chromebook for honestly
@ch4.hayabusa2 жыл бұрын
Developers, business folk with managed IT, teachers, Government, journalists, traveling knowledge workers... I'm on a $3,000+ Windows laptop right now, and the WSL2 stuff is dog slow compared to Crostini. MacOS offers no first party Linux support. I could run linux on my laptop, but it would damage the OLED screen, and would require days of work to figure out the details.
@alexmacharia54032 жыл бұрын
@@ch4.hayabusa why not just get another windows laptop instead of this
@michaelcorcoran87682 жыл бұрын
Someone that wants a premium laptop if it doesn't need Windows. Something with a comparable build quality for Windows would probably be twice the price.
@michaelcorcoran87682 жыл бұрын
@@alexmacharia5403 because a Windows laptop with this kind of build quality is going to cost you like $2,000. This is basically the same price as an entry level gaming laptop which often have an ugly plastic chassis. Plus, windows can be a pain in the ass in its own right. Microsoft constantly requiring updates, and bugging you for login information for Microsoft services you might not want to use.... Basically, you can get a premium laptop with premium features and a premium build with a Chromebook. The same price you'll get a much less premium build with windows. Chrome OS generally will get you much better battery life, turns on much faster,gives you a laptop without all the Microsoft bloat. It's not for everybody, there are obvious advantages to choosing windows but if you are trying to avoid Microsoft's bloat a Chromebook is a good choice
@andyH_England2 жыл бұрын
@@michaelcorcoran8768 I think that if you are just using it for work then maybe this very expensive Chromebook is an option. But if you want it for your pleasure as well then I could never recommend it. For a start if I want to play Netflix or Amazon above 1080p I cannot do that on a Chromebook. Also, the apps on Windows and the breadth of those apps mean you can are not restricted as in ChromeOS. Also, as a tablet, ChromeOS is still not at all good. I could go on, from 5G support to getting the newest fastest chips, but it is clear Chromebooks are niche and given the choice I would get a Windows laptop for its better overall offerings and choice. Also, price, if you are sensible you can get great value as well.
@michal47362 жыл бұрын
It hurts me that 90% of Chromebooks have the same, generic, boat-like shape. I miss more diversity on that point. A round case like Pixelbook Go or Dell 3100 is a breath of fresh air in the laptops/Chromebooks area.
@stenfilg2 жыл бұрын
It's very annoying when you begrudgingly admit that it's good that the manufacturers use eco-friendly recycled cardboard to produce boring packaging and then in the very next breath pine for the fancy, wasteful packaging of old wherein the boxes would be used to make the product stand out but ultimately get discarded just as fast as a boring box would.

Well $1,000 Windows laptop is going to have a much less premium build. If you wanted a Windows laptop with this kind of premium build and features it's going to be more like $2000. But don't get me wrong I see your point, to me the value of a Chromebook is usually value. But I don't know I use a Windows laptop as my primary device and I do get frustrated with Microsoft constantly bugging me to log into their services even if I don't want to, the endless updates, the dog s*** battery life, questionable thernals.. If you don't actually need steam or some windows specific options, you getting much better battery life and you can get something with way more premium materials at this the price point then you would for Windows. But the benefit of Windows is then it's been around so long that there's just such a wide compatibility for extensions and everything. It really just depends on your use case.
